Good for beginners

I’m a huge devereux emmet fan. He’s definitely an underrated golden age architect. I haven’t had the chance to play Brentwood and usually avoided it actually due to the conditions. I decided to take a chance today and give it a go. Much like most of Emmets courses, Brentwood is very short even from the tips. Many of his courses had to be fit into small tracks of land so he did the best with what he could. To be honest, this course felt a bit like he phoned it in with the routing. I’m not saying the holes are horrible, just not his normal type. This could also be changes made over the years.

The conditions were much better than what it used to be, but still has work to be done. The boxes, fairways and greens were in very good shape. The rough was pretty patchy and burnt out but we’re in a drought. Some bunkers got worked on but much more needs to be done. Some bunkers have over extended, even onto the cart paths. Some have only Sandy lips. The greens and tee boxes are right on top of each other but that’s not the courses fault.

This is a very good course for beginners because there’s not a ton of trouble. I had some issues with the group in front of us taking 2+ balls each and the group behind us hitting up on us and basically screaming on the greens while we were teeing off. This wasn’t the courses fault nor do I hold it against them. This etiquette issue is a result of people getting into the game and not caring about being courteous.

This good course can be better and better!

This course has been underrated. While the course is pretty short (6,173 yards) and fairly easy, I though this course was very potential to be better and better.
Each green is significantly small and you have to hit an exact distance. This undulating green offers a smooth role and can be slicky. On the other hand, most bunkers need to be repaired or relocated. Some bunkers have been put in a meaningless location. I heard the town is going to renovate bunkers soon. Also, they will convert #15 to Par 5 and #16 to Par 3 to make a balance on the score card. Once they get these done, this charming course can be one of the best.
Each hole is tree-lined with beautiful pines and it reminds me of courses in San Francisco, Carolinas and Florida. Though the course cannot be expanded anymore due to the limited space, this secret course will definitely shine after upcoming upgrades.

Fair/Average Course

The course is good for locals and beginners as its fairly open and short, even from the tips. The course allows you to use every club in your bag and practice other clubs off the tee besides driver. Course conditions are slightly below average but prioritize the conditions of the greens, which makes it playable. If you set your expectations appropriately, you will not be disappointed. For a weekend early morning tee time, we played in under 4 hours.

Fair/Average Course

The course is extremely short even from the tips and includes very generous fairways. Its an easy course to work with very little elevation changes. Course conditions are below average but greens are in fair shape and makes putting tolerable. If you set your expectations appropriately, this course is not a bad option especially if you want less crowds and quick pace. For a Sunday, 7am tee time, we finished in about 3:40. For the conditions, it should probably be around $30 but their rates are about average for the area but definitely not as well maintained as other town owned courses for the around same price.

Bad manahement

I went to Brentwood todays at 4:40 pm. I asked to play 18 with a cart. The 2 nimrods in the proshop tell me the course is packed and 18 would take 41/2 hours so i could only play 9 with a cart. Now the parking lot is mostly empty and there's no one on the first tee so i know they're bullshitting me. I pay $27 for nine when its only $34 for 18. We finish the front in an hour and 40 minutes. We didnt have to wait on any hole and it was only 6:20 but they wouldnt let us play anymore golf. VERY BAD MANAGEMENT. I wont be back

Great course

Don’t sleep on this course, it is a perfect course for beginners or just to work on your game. Wide fairways but the rough is thick and well placed bunkers make this short course not as easy as you would think.

Great Bargain---Good Value

For the $$, it is a great bargain if you are a higher handicapper that want to work on your game without being crowded with traffic. Great place to hone your skills! Great low key vibe. The course condition is fair/good--- for the $, cannot complain about the condition. More for the pace of play and low traffic-

Had fun first thing in the morning

I showed up at 7:15 am and got right out by myself. Nice layout, pretty close to home. Course is mostly flat with wide fairways, hard to loose a ball here. The fairways were nicely cut with no bare spots that I could find. The greens were mostly flat with little break, and not as quick as I am used to, but probably due to all the rain recently. I imagine during the dry summer they are quicker.
A fairly easy track, the back side has short par 4's so using driver is not necessary. I hit to a 100 yd spot and was fine.
I played behind two groups of four, who were both very nice to allow me to hit up and play thru. That's the kind of friendliness I like on a course.
I will be back to play early!!!!

Worth it if close to home

Nice little course to get to if you live nearby (especially if a Town of Islip Resident due to the affordability.

I have played it in bad shape but recently it was in very good shape compared to the past.

Fairly easy course good for players exiting the beginner stage.

Fairly older crowd and many beginners can slow down the round. A few short par 4s fun if you can hit it long.

Short public course great bang for the buck 30.00 with tee time on the weekends walking .

The course will not blow you away it's a nice little place and is fun to play if you get a early start time can be slow at times . The facility is owned by the town and work on a shoe string budget ( I live in the town) so they are limited on what can be done to the course .You can't get into much trouble off the tee and the greens are slow . I would def. recommend it to someone who wants to get a early round in the morning before football on Sundays or for the player who can't afford to pay a lot of money but loves to play every week
