10th Tee Photo submitted by bildes83 on 10/29/2012
Still better than your best day of work
I played absolutely horrible. I try to get to any course i play, at least a half hour before my tee time. I like to hit balls, putt and chip around, warm up and let loose of any anxiety i may have. I arrived 35 minutes before my tee time and before i knew it, i was standing on the first tee, trying to loosen up after a 25 min. drive. My swing is fickle so i use the warm up time to try and dial it in. Mind you, i let the starter bump me ahead of my time. I wont let that happen again, ever.
The windy conditions and first time seeing this course, never allowed me to relax. The course was beautiful, with some scenic views and a bell on the 12th hole fairway. You ring the bell after your approach shot to let others on the tee box it is safe for them to hit. Pretty cool. Lots of undulations, fitting for a dunes course, the greens were firm but slow and there seemed to be a lot lot of sand as if they had just aerated. So even if i saw a break, the sand kept the ball straight and according to the starters, there isnt any definite breaks on the greens (toward ocean or mountains), so it is guess and hit. There also seemed to be patches of what looked like crab grass on the greens.
The water jugs on the course were far and few in between, and when we did find one, they were empty. We couldnt believe it! Yes, the tradewinds were blowing and keeping the temps mild, however, it was still warm and humid, with no water to fill our water bottles. A huge minus in my book.
When i return to maui, would i play this course again? It would have to take them paying ME to play. I played 2 other courses inside of a week and i would def play those others before coming back to Maui Lani. My money and time are too important for me to give a course "another" chance. First impressions, first impressions, first impressions...
My Favorite on Maui
Good to be back at this course after a few years. Course maybe not as pretty as I remember it in terms of conditioning. Greens much slower than I remembered. I was told they were going to aerate later in the week so maybe just poor timing on my part. Course is fun, challenging and enjoyable to play.
Fun course, Pace of play was horrible on back nine
Course is a fun track with both easy and challenging holes. Ran into a complete logjam on back nine when two foursomes joined up and played as an eightsome. No rangers seen on course during the day. Figured they might have a ranger out on a Saturday.
Always a good round at the Dunes!
The usual excellent golf round was found at Maui Lani on April 20th. My only complaint is that the greens were the slowest I’d ever experienced the Dunes
Great Round @The Dunes
The course is in fine condition, always a challenge!
Nice course at reasonable rate
This is a nice course to play while on Maui that doesn’t break the bank.
Fun but Challenging
The course condition was great. The green was slow. The front 9 holes were fun to play but back 9 holes were challenging.
Nice track
Course is in good shape. Greens were shaggy but I get it. You can’t let groups of five play and think it’ll be ok. We had two fivesomes in front of us and the round took >4.5 hours. I get they were local but it’s an easy thing to manage.
Love the layout and I know you’re working on Green i’m sure once fully grown and they’re gonna be spectacular
Well worth the money
Solid course, need to play a couple of times to get the layout. Some blind shots
Nice track
Natural flowing layout into the dunes and trees. Poor man’s Princeville with similar blind shots and tricky greens. Staff was very friendly and we had a great day. Thanks to all the staff both inside and out.
Unhappy golfer
We golfed at 2:20 in the afternoon. At time of check in. No one indicated we would not be able to go for full round. We were told we’d have to have the card in at 6:15. When we got on the golf course there was a number of groups, larger than four and piece of play was slow due to large groups. When we completed whole 11 of course, employee pulled up and told us that we’d have to jump three holes ahead because they were closing down the course. In moving three holes ahead, we were still jumping into or between two groups in order to finish. We were only able to play 15 holes.
