10th Tee Photo submitted by bildes83 on 10/29/2012
Great links course, great price in Hawaii
This is a tougher links style course in a convenient location, just a few miles from the airport. The course offers extremely scenic views of the mountains, and close ups of many Hawaiian animals. This course offers a challenge for advanced players and well placed tee boxes for beginners. A must play when visiting Hawaii.
Nice track
Natural flowing layout into the dunes and trees. Poor man’s Princeville with similar blind shots and tricky greens. Staff was very friendly and we had a great day. Thanks to all the staff both inside and out.
Unhappy golfer
We golfed at 2:20 in the afternoon. At time of check in. No one indicated we would not be able to go for full round. We were told we’d have to have the card in at 6:15. When we got on the golf course there was a number of groups, larger than four and piece of play was slow due to large groups. When we completed whole 11 of course, employee pulled up and told us that we’d have to jump three holes ahead because they were closing down the course. In moving three holes ahead, we were still jumping into or between two groups in order to finish. We were only able to play 15 holes.
A very nice golf course with lots of beautiful foliage .
Fun!
Fabulous layout
Maui Dines continues to be a hidden gem with a fascinating layout of interesting and challenging holes. By far the best value on Maui. Very good course conditions overall. Pace of play was great on the front nine, slowed down a little on the back. Old school gas carts are a minor negative.
Maui Dunes
Course was in excellent condition, for the most part, with a few greens having some “bald” patches. It pays to play the course a few times because some of the holes are not obvious from the tee. There are 15 or 16 really good holes and 2 or 3 which seemingly had to be fitted in to the geography provided (like #11). Surprisingly tight on a few holes and the wind is certainly a factor, which is pretty much always the case in Hawaii. Gas carts, which I haven’t seen in some time. Also, both seed bottles on my cart were completely empty, with no obvious filling stations evident on the course. All in all, a very nice public course that I would play again.
Twilight golf for a twosome
My wife and played at 3ish this past Saturday. Great course with lots of rolling hills. Really enjoyed it. Pace was very good considering we were a twosome. Greens were very nice albeit slower than what we are used to. Great value!
Always challenging
The Dunes is arguably as challenging as any course on Maui. Holes 1-3 offer a gentle start that builds to a very difficult stretch of holes
8-12 before turning mostly downwind back to the clubhouse. This public facility does a nice job staying current with maintenance, yet has limitations and some imperfections.
More suitable for experienced players than beginners. Bogey golfers will typically need a couple of sleeves of balls.
Great Fun!
The Dunes is really fun local course perfect for the vacationing social golfer. Really great for ladies with many par-able holes. Gorgeous vistas and excellent conditions. Can’t wait to play again when visiting Maui next year.
Fun course. Big elevation changes on nearly every hole.
If you like a flat course, this is not it. You're playing on the side of a mountain, so every hole plays uphill or downhill...and every green seems to have 3 clubs of elevation. This makes it tons of fun to play. It also makes the par 4s feel like par 5s. I've enjoyed playing this course multiple times over the years. It's always my first choice when visiting Maui.
Course was in great shape except they had sanded half the greens making putting not a pleasant experience no warning they were doing this. Otherwise course in great shape
Good course but challenging
The staff and course conditions were excellent. The layout is beautiful but challenging. “Dunes” is appropriate. You better be good at getting out of the sand because there is a ton of it. In many cases they are deep and over your head. All in all, I would play it again but lower my scoring expectations. Only bad thing was our cart. Wasn’t sure it would make it through the round. When you would step on the gas, there would be a substantial delay before it would start and if you were on a hill, it would roll backwards for a while before it would start. Dangerous, especially if there was another person/cart behind you.
