Monifieth Golf Links - The Medal Course
About
For being an old, classic inland links/parkland layout, Monifieth's par-71 Medal Course is lengthy even by modern standards, at 6,655 yards from the championship tees, and 6354 from the middles. And the wind, as pointed out by Mr. Miller, can make it play much, much longer. Even more importantly, the wind accentuates the spin on poor shots, bringing into play some of the most treacherous hazards, OB, and gorse to be found on any Scottish golf course. Holes 1-6, 13, 16, and 18 all feature OB on the right side from tee to green. And Monifieth's remaining holes hold little promise of relief, as the gorse and fescue appear to be thicker and wilder than most Scottish links.

Gem of a course
Terrific course, don't play links that often but would play this every day. Starter was very helpful, course was in terrific condition
Weather was even sunny and warm, couldn't have asked for any more
Great day
Played monifieth on way up to top of Scotland as a bit of a half way house. Great course in fantastic condition. Thoroughly enjoyable
Monifieth Links
Just had to play first course Tom Watson played in Scotland on a links.
Cold eastern wind didn’t spoil cold occasion.
A lot of trees cut down which doesn’t put the intimidation factor into the top category of courses but very close.
A splendid enjoyable game.
Would love to return.
Great condition!
Very good course for the money! Greens were fantastic!! As the gentleman who I got paired up with said “It’s like putting on a snooker table”. Staff was wonderful. Will definitely be back!
Great Condition Very good links course
The staff in the starters hut was very friendly and informative about the course and local rules etc. Upon our visit to the pro shop the Pro was very friendly and welcoming for our group and gave good advice and seemed a genuine top guy. The course was in excellent condition and the greens very true would definitely recommend to friends great day and a good links course.
Neat vibe
Love the different experiences while playing golf in Scotland and this fits the bill.
There were three different clubs and one pro shop lined up down the 18th hole of the medal course. Those three clubs have privileges at this course and the adjacent Ashludie course.
There were so many people playing on this day that it was almost dangerous. Balls flying all over the place. But it made the experience more authentic and it was a good day.
The course was brown because of the dry Scottish summer but that didn't matter. The layout was neat, and most of the course was played along the railroad. We played with a crosswind the whole round that made it challenging, but again, that's what makes experiences like this so great.
MONIFIETH
Arrived at Starters office to find there were actually 3 golf clubs here. Starter was efficient & set us on our way. The course was quite tough especially in the wind & with a meandering burn to contend with. The greens were very fast & tricky to read. At end of our round we went into the chosen clubhouse of the day the Broughty Golf Club, where we had a drink & an excellent meal which were exceptionally well priced. Staff were very polite but not very chatty. All in all we enjoyed this course but did not consider it would have been worth the full price per round. Would certainly recommend it to others.
Traditional links golf that is accessible, reasonable and enjoyable
If you wish to play a traditional links course in NE Scotland, Monifieth is an excellent course at a much more reasonable price than courses such as Carnoustie or St. Andrews. We were very warmly welcomed by all staff and greatly enjoyed learning the intricacies of playing a traditional links course. The course was not difficult at all to walk. If we are ever fortunate enough to visit Scotland again, we will definitely return to Monifieth.
Fantastic Day
Our experience was superb. Wonderful traditional Links layout and for late March the course was in excellent condition. At £16.00 a head for 18 holes I doubt you would find a better bargin for weekend golf. Complements to the greenkeeping staff for course conditions. Never used any of the clubhouse facilities so could not comment. Will definitely be heading back in the future.
Lovely place to play
We got a windy day but the course was in excellent condition for the time of year. And the course was set up at a decent length which does not often happen on courses in winter. Played at our own pace; nobody either in front or behind us. Great!
Beautiful holes and greens in first class nick. What could be better in early March?
