Callander golf course
I played this course for the second time. Playing of the back T makes it a amazing course! Long, forgiving holes. Beautiful greens en fab fairways.
First round at Callander
Fantastic course and great value for money.
Particularly loved holes 16-18, driving down the fairways into scenic views.
I've been playing for only a year and still learning (17 handicap).
Definitely be back, highly recommend.
Ann & Stephen
Club manager was very enthusiastic and helpful and made us very welcome
Poor Greens for the price
Thought the £28.99 on a deal was a bit much, last year it was £19.99 which was fairer. Course was nice enough for the day but the quality of the greens and tees weren’t up to the standard of the price.
Great for all types of standards
Although a few par threes don't think it's a pitch and putt on any of them even the fifteenth although it is a short iron the window to the green is only a few yards across due to the large trees on each side of the fairway and a bunker in front of the green.a daunting shot but what a view as most of the other holes have the new clubhouse is up and running although small it caters well including all day breakfast rolls and is also licensed so I recommend it for all players as we are high handicappers you don't feel overwhelmed but is still a great test for all players
Decent enough.
Callander is an alright course. The greens are extremely dried out, patchy/bare so makes putting somewhat of an adventure. You are putting more in hope than expectation over some bare patches. On a few of the holes it's like the grass around the hole lifted as it was being pulled and wasn't tamped back down so there can be a heavy break one inch before the hole...
It's weird that I actually prefer playing Callander in the winter as the ball will actually stop on the green when hitting a wedge from 120 in- I sound like I'm complaining but it's actually the short courses best defense from easy scoring! Callander is a good course with lovely scenery but I wouldn't pay more than £20 for the experience.
Since I have access to a holiday home in Callander I enquired about an out of town membership... they don't seem to offer this which means they're missing out on quite a bit of money.
Great course, fantastic views
Highly recommended, and that's 15th hole... fantastic!
Nice Short Course
Fun course to play, short holes so able to get decent scores in short par 4s. Other players on course were friendly, and course was in nice condition. Clubhouse was closed so wasn’t aware of temporary container where a staff member was based. Can’t really judge off course amenities since the clubhouse was closed but course was good fun.
Nice Course, but clubhouse closed and no staff!
Enjoyed the golf, but disappointed that there was no one there to greet us and the clubhouse was closed.
Perfect except for having no amenities
Course played well given the wet conditions we have experienced recently ( my own course was closed) fairways and greens decent given how early in season.
Staff seemed friendly enough but pity there is currently no clubhouse changing or toilet facilities
Didn’t deter from a good days golf will be back
Enjoyable round
Booked round via Golfnow and paid £11.99 as opposed to £15 if I had paid direct. Temporary reception was closed when I arrived and didn’t see any one official during my round. Course was dry but winter greens on all holes as greens looked as if they were being treated. Very quiet, only saw three other people playing. Sunny, but cold. Enjoyable round!
Best condition for years
It’s great to see the course in such good condition - the best it’s been in for many years. It’s the best course in the area by a distance. The new clubhouse will take it to another level.
Gem
The people who have taken on the baton to look after this course should be very proud of themselves. This is a great golf course not only because of the hard work put in by the staff but also the layout of the course is superb, don' t be fooled into believing that the fact course is short makes it easy. This course is a real challenge and at the same time highly enjoyable. We'll worth it.
Surprise package
I booked to play last minute on a spectacularly sunny Saturday morning. Other than a couple of others I appeared to have the course to myself. I was initially concerned about playing such a short course, and feared it wouldn't give me the opportunity to play every club in my bag; how wrong I was.
The course makes the most of every bit of space on offer. Playing from the white tees often meant having to back track from- or play across- the previous green or, in one instance, cross a neighbouring fairway. I imagine this could make life a little tricky on a busy day, but I had no issues whatsoever.
Despite being a parkland course with relatively limited space, each hole felt enclosed for those surrounding it. The rough in places is challenging sp errant tee shots can be punishing, unlike other courses where there is just semi-rough separating the holes.
Despite only having one par 5 hole, the course makes up for it by having other lengthy challenges such as an uphill 230yd par 3 and some fairly lengthy par 4s.
The fairways were in great condition and the majority of bunkers benefitted from high quality sand. Only one bunker I played had anything that could be considered compacted sand that too often is the hallmark of an affordable course.
The only more significant downside was that the greens were patchy in places and seemed particularly slow despite being a hot and sunny day.
There are some spectacular views to accompany this course that really does have something to offer for most golfers. Will definitely play again.
Nobody home
Arrived at course with absolutely nobody around. Signs broken off and on the floor. Called number to advise of my arrival but no answer. There is a QR code on the container door to sign in, but it directs you to the booking form. Only saw 1 other group who advised they just turn up and play for free as nobody ever around.
Course was very boggy after some heavy rain but that was to be expected.
Course was filled mostly with dog walkers.
Not a course to play in winter, hopefully better in summer
Stunning Course
I only recently started playing Callander again for the first time in many years, and wow! The course is in great condition, with better drainage, bunkers being revamped and fairways are so clean looking. Lots of challenges throughout, and requires well planned shots, even for big hitters. Par 3 15th is one of my favorite holes I've ever played, it's iconic. Currently lacking a clubhouse, but I know that is on the way soon. The difference between when I first played Callander and now is massive. Any golfer in the area or passing through should definitely spend a few hours on this course.
