Glencruitten Golf Club (also known as Oban Golf Club) is James Braid's hidden gem nestled among the hills of Glencruitten Estate on the outskirts of Oban.

Glencruitten is a short, hilly parkland golf course, with most of the holes playing to an elevated green or from an elevated tee. There are mature trees throughout the course. Buzzards can be seen on the course, as well as pheasants, heron and deer. Although not visible, the remains of a vitrified Roman fort are located on top of the hill on Glencruitten Golf Club's fourth hole, which is a listed ancient monument. The 280-yard hole plays from an elevated tee. There is a steep hill on left and a small burn on right.

Walked

Tight course built on the side of a hill with lots of up and down walking

Course is situated behind Oban town on the side of a hill. There are plenty of interesting par 3’s and shared fairways (1st, 4th, 18th all share the same fairway). Notwithstanding the course is c. 4200 yds in length it feels longer because of the hills. Course was in good condition with well grassed fairways and true but slowish greens.

Fabulous course

A really enjoyable round of golf. Love the layout of this course. Some really tricky holes that need to be carefully considered. Both of us had a nightmare at the 12th. Can't wait to tackle that one again. Everyone really friendly and helpful. Will definitely play here again.

Friendly staff and really well planned course

A very nice course with lots of really interesting but fair holes. Greens were excellent. We really enjoyed playing here and the staff were super friendly and spent time telling us where the holes were. A real hidden gem.

Billy goat territory

I think this is a great & unique course through the rolling & steep hills of Oban. A lot of blind approach shots but they have aiming markers. Luckily we rented trolleys (pull carts) as once again, rolling hills. Greens were slow but reasonable & fairways were freshly cut & in very good shape. For 16 pound it was a bargain 18 holes. We appreciated the pro shop opening for 1st tee time available (8am) as we were on a tight schedule.

Not for the faint hearted

Standing on the first tee you are welcomed with the virw of a large double fairway.
Dont let this fool anyone into a false security the second shot is over the marker blind uphill to a nice sized green. Not for the fait hearted and no one would be surprised if most golfers played a layup to the bottom of the hill and then played a nice wedge over the marker and took their chances with a single putt for par.

The first hole will set the tone and leave you in no uncertainty about the respect this course demands. Dont be fooled by the amount of par 3's on the card . This a good challenge for all levels of golfers and the scenery around the course is spectacular.
A really nice course and a fair challenge.

Good value but quirky

Scenic and great value but recommend a buggy as very hilly and quite steep in places, a lot of par 3s and quite a few blind tee shots so some previous knowledge would be a distinct advantage as a first timer hadn't a clue at times
A must play course though
