After or before chowing down on the clubhouse's "Scottish Fayre," take on Troon Links Lochgreen Course.

The Lochgreen Course at Troon Links is widely regarded as the best of the municipal golf courses in Troon, though all offer a great round of golf at prices hard to beat in Scotland.

Troon Links Lochgreen Course is facility's largest, a par-74 that parallels in parts Royal Troon Golf Club and has served as a qualifier for the Open. Jack Nicklaus, for one example, once shot an 82 on the golf course and needed to follow it up with a 68 to make the cut by one shot.

Travelled from Glasgow due to better weather and course conditions in Troon and we were not disappointed! Great condition, all tees on and all greens were on and perfect!

Good round spoilt by snails

Always enjoy our visits to Troon and knew the time would be tight teeing off at 12pm.

However the pace of play was horrendously slow and we found the cause as we were on the 5th tee. There was a ladies 3 ball on the 8th that had lost 2 holes on the game in front and was holding up everyone behind.

Had to play the last 2 holes in the dark and eventually got in at half 4.

Would still recommend the course and will be back despite the slow play.

Decent muni course

Muni courses in Troon are much cheaper than the high priced ones in The area. Have played Darley before which was tight but lots of fun. Lochgreen is maybe the most wide open course I have ever played. Pretty hard to lose a ball but some holes were long and greens surrounded by bunkers which toughened it up a bit. Pace of play was good and Course was in good shape. Reception was average; fellow who checked us in not very friendly and welcoming. The person in pro shop was friendly.

Great bar the 5 ball in front

Staff are very friendly and easy to deal with. Great facilities if you need to use them.

Course is always in excellent condition. Played in a pretty windy day and still enjoyed it so that says it all.
Greens are brilliant, courses well looked after and always clean.

Could do with someone out checking pace of play etc as there was a group making up a 5-ball (yep a 5 ball!!!!!) A few groups in front of us and it caused a 5/10minute wait on every tee pretty much.

Wont stop me playing again, but this nonsense needs better management as it really affected the round

Long

Course plays very long. Conditions not the best. Scruffy and lots of divots. Greens are slow. Open, so no lost balls.
Darley is in better shape and more fun to play.
Didn't use clubhouse so I can't say what the food and beverage situation is.

Troon Municipal - Loch Green

Love the three courses here at Troon, however had chosen not to play this year as £36 a round for a municipal course is a bit steep.

Luckily TeeTimes sent me money off offer and I booked up for me and a friend for a round which equated to £18 each.

Facilities have recently been improved at the clubhouse, with a beer garden added for good measure.

Course was in great nick and greens were immaculate.

Only slight gripe was the twoball behind us who seemed to be in a race and basically stood on thr teeoff with us, we had a twoball in front of us so couldn't go any faster, we took 3 hours 14mins for our round which we thought was decent pace.

Hopefully we will be back if prices drop a touch, £28 would be fair enough

Wet but greens were good.

Unfortunately we were behind some inconsiderate golfers from Glasgow who could not have held down a handicap of 28. There etiquette on the course was extremely poor in fact quite sure they knew nothing about etiquette. They would have been better placed playing the Fullerton course which would not have been as tough as Lochgreen.
Unfortunately councils too quick to take people's money and not question their golfing ability.

Great Layout

I played this course some years ago and was keen to go back and see how it was. I was not disappointed. The coures is beautifully crafted on the natural contours of the land and although the greens were slow (I played at night) they were in perfect condition and very true.
A very enjoyable course.
