Poston Butte Golf Club

About
Located just southeast of Phoenix in the town of Florence, Poston Butte Golf Club offers some of the most affordable golf in the area. The course has desert attributes but the best part about its design is that it is more forgiving than some of the overgrown desert courses found in north Scottsdale. The golf course features 49 sand traps strategically placed around the landing zones and greensides and water comes into play on two holes. It is generally a player-friendly layout though with wide fairways and ample room off the tees. The par-3 17th is the signature hole, which is known for its challenging island green. Poston Butte also offers a double-ended, targeted grass range and a short game area.

The island green was very cool! Layout of course was great too.
All in all it was a great experience except for the greens. Super hard, bumpy, way to fast. I put that in my course survey.
Great Layout, Greens were AWFUL
The fairways and rough were in great shape. The green were absolutely AWFUL. Bare dirt, bumpy like a country road and hard as a rock. You could not get a true putt with these conditions. They should make note of this before booking. Having played Whirlwind 2 days prior and having played Poston Butte many times in the past, the greens were extremely disappointing and made a great layout frustrating and wished we’d have booked almost anywhere else.
Poston Butte
Greens were a bit dry, firm, and bumpy. Pace was almost 5 hours, but I still love this course.
VERY DISAPPOINTED
Prior to the Pandemic our golf group from Saddlebrooke played the course several times. We were always impressed about the conditioning of the course; however, our recent play was completely the opposite. Hard fairways, greens that appeared to have no maintenance--bumpy, hard and lack of grass and a dull green color. Because of the conditioning of the course, a proper green fee would be around $60. Whoever the maintenance contract is with
should be fired.
Fairways great, greens terrible
Greens had very little grass and very bumpy
disappointing for $105. Fairways and greens were great and staff was nice as always. It might be the transition phase, but not worth $105
What happened to the greens?
Arrived at the course and noticed on the drive in that the greens looked different almost like they were punched. Went to the practice green and couldn’t believe it. The practice green looked like it was scolded. Nothing but dirt and painted. They were rough and bumpy. Asked the starter if all the greens were like that and he replied no that the greens roller was broken down and waiting on parts.
Long story short all the greens look horrible and almost like bare dirt that was painted. Usually these greens are just that green and very nice. So not sure what happened.
Staff was friendly even if the starter lied about the conditions of the greens. Pace of play was a little over 4 hours and that’s not bad but the course wasn’t busy and pace should have been much faster.
Greens in need of repair
Poston has been one of my go to courses in the valley however the greens are very poor recently. Bumpy dry very poor to play and below Troon standards. Hope to see improvement soon.
Wouldn't recommend at this time. Everything about course condition was great, except the greens and holes were not cut clean at all.
Worst I’ve seen these greens ever
Playing here past 6 yrs. I e never had complaints. It’s always been exceptional conditions and staff etc. sadly that’s no longer true. The greens are trash now. Worse than summer conditions and not even May yet!! I won’t go back til I hear huge improvements but be warned its currently horrendous in the greens.
Playing with family
Our golf was wonderful! Even though one of our guys got sick the morning of golf and couldn’t play, the other three of us had a great time.
How would you like to play in almost 5 hours (4 hrs 50 min)
Time and time I fill out these surveys but I’m sure it transfers to DEAF ears. Greens are very dried out and very bumpy. Like I stated before in this survey even Rory wouldn’t be able to get the ball to stick on the green.
Poor Greens
I have played Poston Butte multiple times over the last 5 years. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The warm Up facilities were in good condition except the putting green. The t blocks and the fairways were in great shape. Like many courses since Covid the bunkers are in poor shape which was not the surprise. The greens were in bad shape. It was impossible to know where the ball was going. The greens were uneven and bumpy. I have always told my golfing friends this is a course they need to play. I’ll be holding back on recommendations. Hope they resolve the poor greens .
Course Management and Greens
Hello, the last few times we golfed here the pin placements are ridiculous and the greens are very dried out. The pin placements are so ridiculous when you put it up to the cup it’s about an inch from the cup and then veers 7 inches away and down the crest of the slope. I don’t think even Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler could stick it on the green they are so hard. The staff inside the pro shop have never been friendly for years, they need some attention. People have complained time and time again but it’s quite obvious Troon doesn’t care. Also there is never a Marshall on and play is slow oh well. Very disappointed in this course.
Great course. Difficult greens
Course is in excellent shape however greens appear baked. Do not hold approach shots . Very fast.
Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers in great condition. The greens were in poor condition. Cut short, no roll, dormant grass. Ball fizzes and zig-zags on slower putts close to hole. Not good.
The fairways and tee boxes here were immaculate. Unfortunately, the greens were in the process of being over seeded so the greens were a bit bumpy, but otherwise we’re in excellent condition especially considering the time of year. Jaime in the pro shop was extremely friendly and helpful as were all the staff. 10/10 will be a course we return to on our next AZ trip.

Greens being over seeded? Sorry, they don't overseed in the spring. Also, Poston Butte doesn't overseed their greens. The grass is in dormancy.
