A flat lie is a hot commodity here
Snagged a 3:30 PM Friday afternoon tee-time for the Valley Course. Parking lot was packed, and had to walk quite some distance with my clubs to the pro shop. Check in was a breeze, and the gentleman in the pro shop was very friendly. The cart attendant seemed to be having a bad day and was undeserving of a tip to say the least.
Overall, the course was in good condition with very few dead spots in the fairway. Most bunkers were rock hard, though some were playable. The practice range was also closed, so my first few holes were quite colorful as I warmed up. I'm sure that water feature enjoys dining on Pro V1's.
A few things I truly dislike about this course. It is APTLY named the Valley Course. Constant ups and downs, and -very- few flat lies to hit from. I don't mind the occasional challenge, but when even good drives are punished by terribly uneven terrain and blind shots, it can be aggravating to say the least. Secondly, far too many tee boxes parallel to busy side streets. I don't mind playing through houses, it's the Coachella Valley. Public Streets greatly detract from the beauty of a course, as well as your focus.
The cart girl was extremely friendly, and I saw her 3 times during my quick 18 holes. Unfortunately, the starter stand was closed and I was unable to purchase any beverages before heading out for my round. Next time I'll be sure to have some Powerade in my bag.
All in all, I am -much- more partial to the Palms Course. There are a couple visually beautiful holes here, but I don't intend on playing the Valley Course again.
Greens not worth the price. Only play with a great deal…
Greens not worth the price payed. Great course, but greens are lumpy and burned out in spots. The local $50 goat track’s greens roll smoother. Otherwise a great golf course. Just a little overpriced under the current playing conditions.m
Pleasantly surprised
Both courses at this resort are a lot of fun to play. The greens on the Valley course are nuts. Played in heavy winds and needed a par on 18 to shoot a 79. Ok drive to the top of the hill. I knew the second shot into the green would be difficult because the 18th on their Palms course is a challenge. Got to the top of the hill, had 175 in. The view was a beautiful green, with pond on the left, palms and flowers. Gorgeous hole. Naturally in a howling wind I had to hit 2 extra clubs and hooked a 5 iron into the pond. *sigh*
2 very fun courses at this JW Marriott resort.
There's better options for sure
We were overall rather disappointed with the quality of the course (fairway conditions) and the layout. A great deal of sand protecting elevated greens with many having not enough sand in them to allow proper "outs" especially when short sided. Also, we had a 2pm tee time and the cart woman informed us on the 1st hole that it was "last call". As such, in spite of paying $153 we could get no on course food or drink. Overall, a 6/10.
Avoid! Just an unsupervised Muni course.
Very disappointed. Played like an unsupervised municipal course. A below avg one at that.
The poor service started right away. No one was there to man the Bag Drop and cart the clubs to the golf carts. It’s quite the hike, with carts prohibited in the parking lot (not unusual), some guys were carrying 2 bags (his and his wife).
Once I found the carts I grabbed one, lots of golfers milling around, but no one providing directions to the driving range, putting areas, or first tee (which were all out of sight) - guys in the pro shop were clueless to what was happening down below them.
The driving range was filled with resort guests who thought they were at Top Golf - flip flops, muscle shirts and all. No range attendant on duty. One group waiting never did get to hit balls before their tee time.
Finally found the first Tee, but not the course I was playing, again no starter at either Course. Eventually, I paired up with 2 others on the putting green and we headed out.
Caught a group at No 3 (actually hit into them as they were not visibly in a gully over a hill). Finished the hole and chatted with them as they waited to tee off. There were now 4 groups playing the same hole… and yup consistent of the day, no Marshall to heard the cats.
I quick call to the pro shop only for them to acknowledge no Marshall and no one to send out. The waiting continued for most of the round, only slightly improving in the back 9.
The course, really needs new/competent management. When the only workers you talk to are those taking your $$$ something’s is wrong.
Can’t recommend this course when there are many others equally or better in the valley that provide proper service.
Poor course condition and customer experience
Course was not worthy of the green fees. Fairways and greens seemed dry and not grow in from over seeding.
There was no starter or direction once you left the club house. Seemed like they really didn't care about the customer experience, just the money
Fun course
Enjoyable layout except for couple odd holes including 18. Good shape except for greens which were slow and.bumpy, probably rolling about 9
Great Day of Golf
Really like this course. Very fair with some challenging water holes. The greens were not in the best condition. Quite bumpy.
Great adventure!
We had a great time, but a bit of an adventure with unexpected pouring rain storm and thunder!
Lasted about 20 minutes and had no problem finishing the round!
good golfing experience
good layout, challenging, attentive to varying course conditions
Great Course
I had not played the course in several years, but it is still in pristine condition and beautiful. I am a very average golfer, so the moderate difficulty is perfect for me. We had a great time!
