Baytowne at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
About
Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

16th from the fairway Photo submitted by u7885576 on 07/08/2019
Florida greens and fairways.
Pretty typical Florida course, with sand, some water, very nice greens and fairways. Course was challenging but fair, a little tight in places where Condo sprawl has crept in.
This course has great features
The course has a diverse view of all of the holes. They’re all very beautiful.
Very slow
Pace of play was very slow even for non peak tourist season as well as the greens were thick like a fairway very slow greens.
Greens are desperately slow, I realize it’s early in the season, but shagggy
Basic Value and
Baytowne is fun to play. Its greens are ridiculously slow. Some good holes and some they should blow up (13). If you are staying at Sandestin it’s a fair value and a decent challenge. The clubhouse and other amenities are marginal.
Slow greens!
First, I really enjoyed my round of golf. The tee boxes were good, the fairways excellent, and the greens....ok -- very, very slow. It took the first 9 holes to realize you had to hit the ball with almost 50% more force than what I would consider "normal". The problem with that kind of putt is it changed the way you'd expect the ball to roll up to the hole. Still; I will play this course anytime I get the chance.
Baytowne
Excellent day with a wonderful other twosome. A little disappointed with slow greens, although condition was exceptional.
Good course with slow greens
Nice layout, good selection of holes. Fairways were good, greens were good just slow. Pace of play was OK.
Nice course
Nice course and good value. Currently the greens are extremely slow. The slowest I have ever played. Disappointing. They had some green issues in the fall and are letting them grow out. The appearance of the greens is excellent but the speed is VERY slow.
Sunday round
Course great shape speed of play was remarkable. Highly recommend
As spring arrives conditions are getting better. Some of the bunkers need new sand. In the land of white sand it seems that would be easy
Slow greens
Pace of play was below average, no rangers, and the greens ran about 7 on the stimpmeter if that. Rather disappointing.
No info
We were not told the driving range was closed so arrived early for nothing. Very slow check in staff didn’t seem to be aware of Golf Now concept. I was ignored while a newbie was being trained. Train after hours. Greens needed a mow.
Grounds Crew
Some staff appear to need some training regarding how to handle golfers who are hitting onto the green. I actually had a grounds staff member drive on to the green on a riding lawn mower and motion for me to hit the ball to the green from about100 yards out. When I declined and motioned for him to move off he declined for a period but did eventually drive off and to another hole.
