All good
Northop GC great, good condition greens, fairways excellent.
The only issue we had is that ‘Golf now’ sold our tee time to another person. So instead of a friendly two ball we had a random stranger playing with us. Not ideal in the present covid world.
Shocking scenes
Appauling golf course more like a dog walking/running facility as there seemed to be a fair few who showed no consideration when taking a shot. Very slow play inwhich could of been caused by the poor layout out of the direction of tee boxe's it was difficult to find next tee off, it was like a treasure hunt at time's. Greens where shocking with a certain amount being covered in black moss and also extremely slow which the bloke in the pro shop refused to agree and seems to think they are PGA standard , I'm pretty sure there are abandoned bowling greens with better conditions.
Please avoid this course at all costs there are much better courses about in the area for what they are charging aka Mold and buckley/padeswood both stunning course's for the price and sometimes cheaper than northop
Poor greens
Played at a sgood pace and more and more people appeared from know where , and people was always in front and waiting to tee from behind, poorly spaced tee times
Great course
Bunkers were disappointing, although this is the same everywhere due to the lack of rakes allowed.
Northop
Despite heavy rain in the morning, the course was still open
Once rain finished, the sun shone and the course revealed it's parkland beauty.
Impressed
Played here a few times over the last couple of years. Have noticed the amount of work the green keepers have done during the lockdown period. Really impressed with the course conditions.
Give it a go.
Starting to get back to its former glory .
Green staff working hard and putting in great effort with improvements to the greens and tee boxes , won't be long before they see the rewards
Well worth a visit..
Great course, Sand on greens prepped slowed them massively
Excellent course really enjoyed every aspect except the greens unfortunately they had alot of sand on them due to winter prep for summer, which is just bad timing we was told by the shop of this.
It's a course 100% will be going back to in summer, it's very forgiving and some stunning holes some great lines you can take if you fancy it. A buggy would be recommended but you have to stick to the paths so there not a major advantage
Poor condition
Over the last 5 or so years I have played Northop about a dozen times.
And in general it has been in good condition, but today it was in really poor condition, played at 8am yet about 40 divots in every bunker like it hadn’t been raked since mid yesterday. The fringes around the green was not in any kind of decent condition, and the fairways were much longer than normal. And after saying all of this I wouldn’t mind but it was £31 a round which is as or more expensive then all the course in the area that are in much better shape.
Left after 9
I know we are in a Pandemic but there's no excuse for courses still having major building work, temporary tee boxes, long unkept fairways, mossy greens & drainage issues.
Courses have been closed for nearly 4 months, surely all this work could have been taken care of in that time?
Walked off after 9 holes as it just wasn't enjoyable one bit.
Played Hawkstone 2 days before Northop & it was immaculate.
Disappointed as Northop is normally a good track.
Won't be rushing back
First time playing and the last. Hadn't been mowed at all so no definition on the fairways whatsoever.
Very poor drainage so every tee and what was the fairway was just boggy.
Greens were great tho.
Sorry but can't recommend this course.
Their neighbours at Padeswood is far superior.
Well Worth Playing
Two different 9's. You start on card holes 10-18 which are generally wide and flat with a few irritating (i.e strategic) trees in fairways. The other 9 holes (1-9 on the card) meander up and down through a smart looking housing complex. Fairway fringes could do with a mow, some greens are patchy and signage to tees needs improvement These though are minor criticisms. It's a good course and well worth playing if not quite up to the level of near neighbours (both Padeswood courses and Hawarden) in my personal opinion.
I played Northop yesterday and there must have been a miracle overnight as the course was in great contrition. The greens were rolling very true and fast. The pace of play was 3 hours and 20 minutes for a 4 ball at the end of a very busy competition. Not sure what course this person plays at but it must be in fantastic condition if he thought Northop was poor. I would recommend Northop for a game of golf with great staff and friendly members. Please try it out for yourself.
Not sure where this review has come from or which of the Open rota courses this person usually plays at, but Northop Golf Club is fantastic at present. Played Saturday 26th June and greens were lovely, rolling true and as fast as I would expect for my £18 green fee !! No, they are not 12 on the stimp meter but I suspect Mr "Once A Week" couldn't handle them if they were ! Definitely worth a visit for a friendly welcome, stunning scenery and an enjoyable game of golf at a cracking price. Ps There is a footpath on the 12th hole, so enjoy the view and let those with a dog pass on by and enjoy their day too.
