Lovely Course with great views on a nice day
It was one of the hottest days of the year when we played at Woodlake Park. The course is well off the beaten track, down a succession of single track lanes, but is well worth the effort.
Had some lunch in the clubhouse before playing, and sat overlooking the 18th green with views the reservoir and hills. The bar staff were welcoming as was the professional in the club shop
It's well worth buying a course planner if playing for the first time, as there are some unusual twists to the first couple of holes amongst others. For the first six holes you gradully climb to the highest point of the course, affording lovely views over Lllnadegfedd Reservoir. The 7th is a par 3 with the green about 100 feet below the tee. Not surprsingly hte 8th is straight back up one of the steepest hills on a golf course I've faced!
The second nine is very nice too, and the course benefits someone who plots there way around rather than someone who takes a driver on most holes that they can.
All in all a top course
Great course but needs 2 small improvements
I absolutely love this place, it’s one of the best courses around the area if not the best. The views are stunning, the fairways are cut nicely, the greens roll really well. However the bunkers and winter mats are really bad im sorry to say. The bunkers have hardly any sand in them and the winter mats are as solid as a rock and covered in stones ready to scratch your clubs.
If those 2 things were sorted this place would be absolute perfection.
However don’t let that put you off, it’s a great course and certainly a challenging one
Great value, Great views
Really enjoyed my first time playing this course. Good condition and spectacular views. Would recommend.
Excellent course
Thoroughly enjoyed our first time playing here. Its a tough walk and there's not a great deal of flat ground, but the course was in very good condition. Greens were fast and consistent all round the course. Good variety of holes in both distance and complexity. Would definitely recommend and also great value for money!
Excellent
Excellent condition as always, greens are fantastic, really good course with a varied layout.
Midweek Visit
Haven't played Woodlake Park for a few years, but course still in fantastic condition and great value for money.
Well worth a visit.
Picturesque and challenging
Great course and some challenging holes with thought provoking shots to be played
Hidden Gem
Great value course in a scenic location. Fantastic views throughout and a number of really interesting holes. Fairly open but challenging slopes and firm conditions meant it was a tricky test of golf. Greens in fantastic condition and a number of great holes - a few memorable par 3s the highlight. On a level with far better know and expensive courses in South Wales.
Staff and members friendly adding to a positive experience.
Adrian
Great course with challenging holes and spectacular views. Good value for money too
Great day out
Excellent course physically front 9
Easier on foot the back 9
Greens were so tricky and fast
Fantastic views over the reservoir
Would like to return in the near future
A joy to play
I’m nothing more than an occasional golfer these days but this was a great afternoon out. I’d heard good things about Woodlake Park for a number of years and it didn’t disappoint. The greens are fantastic and the star of the show but there are no weak homes. There was a good mix of holes where you could open your shoulders and let the driver go combined with those that required you to put the ball in the right position to be able to access the green.
Would definitely recommend to all handicappers and will return
Excellent course
Course in fantastic condition, greens were incredible. The staff as always were incredibly friendly and obliging. A thoroughly great experience
Excellent greens and very good course
Lovely course with excellent greens.
Played on a Thursday afternoon, great weather and got around in good time!
Well recommended and will play again very soon.
Fantastic Greens
Outstanding course which can be a tough walk but we’ll worth the effort. Tees were a little worn but playable, the greens however were superb, fast but true and in immaculate condition.
