View from 17th Tee on the Pines course Photo submitted by Chad4592468 on 10/16/2013
Course was in good shape
This course was in good shape and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They could use more distance markers.
Slow greens
Course was in mediocre condition. The fairways were sketchy with many bare spots.
The greens were extremely slow. It was hard to get to put to the hole. Had to hit it extra extra hard.
Needs help
The layout is very good but the tee boxes and greens need a lot of work!
Greens
The greens were awful! They were over taken by weeds. Pretty much unputtable
Greens in rough shape
Played the Pines.
Other than the greens on 14-17 they were in terrible shape. The amount of clumpy Poa Anna grass taking over the greens made them almost un-puttable..
Oaks is a little better but need some serious attention.
Course needs some work.
Played the course a few years and thought it was in better shape. Many of the greens need attention—only a few were ok. Fairways had very little grass compared to other courses in the area. I hope management has a plan to bring it back. I’ll try to play it again next year when I’m in the area.
Nice day to play
Managed to play in under 3:50. Never really had to wait, did play one par 3 twice to make a gap, never had anyone pushing our 3some. Overall nice day!
Great local course
Some greens in questionable shape. But for the money, there is no better deal in the area.
There are some really well designed holes on both courses. Really appreciate the differences each tee layout presents. There is a layout for all skill levels. Would like to see the pin placements change more often.
Give this course a chance, you won’t regret it!
Yes in the county there are better deals for the condition of the courses you could have played on if you weren't a cheap skate and being in the way of those that are members or just play faster.
Very affordable
Course and greens not in good shape or what we expected from another review.
Lowest bidder
For the market in the local area and prime real-estate, This is confusingly and easily one of the worst courses in the county. This was my 2nd chance for this place, came a year ago and the place was under lots of construction and the course was awful. But that's not their fault, so I came again. Got their an hour early to practice and warm up only to be met with an inoperable ball dispenser machine.
Whatever, go check in for our game. The gentlemen at the counter was not helpful in identifying our cart. The one reserved for us was not present on the lot and when we asked for a different one we were met with hostility. We rented clubs and were given lefty clubs for a righty golfer. Once that was worked out we made the hike back to our cars to grab our gear because carts are NOT allowed in the lot -- God knows why not.
Once we were loaded up, we waited for 40 minutes with nothing to do but loiter and putt. We brought drinks to make the wait easier but staff was petty about no outside drinks so we spent the time counting cars on the highway. When our tee time finally arrived, we were greeted by 2 other groups who had also been booked at the same time that we were. Tripple booked tee time on the same course meant another 20 minute wait.
Through the course, much of the improvements were tough to identify. The greens were rough and riddled with weeds. Paths were battered and confusing to follow at some points.
This course has so much potential. I'm not sure if it's greed or mismanagement that drives all the discrepancies. I'll never return and refer every friend of mine elsewhere. The grossly unsupervised military courses on Eglin are preferable to this place.
Well dipstick I got news for you if you think Eglin's courses or Hurlburt is/are better because they are not!! Open up your coin purse and play the courses in Destin or Niceville if you are a visitor here. Tired of non-locals playing our local course!! Your comment about double/triple tee times I will say is legit though. Someone in a degree of authority needs to get that corrected someday.
Interesting
Needs lots of work on the greens and some help in the fairways. Hot deal should be the regular price.
Go play somewhere else then!
Good course
The only real negative I have is that the greens are in poor condition. To make any putt of over 4' is a pure crap-shoot as the ball bounces along over crabgrass and bare spots and ground moss.
If your handicap is that high, putting is the least of your worries. Probably should take up something like gardening instead of golf.
Slow play
The course is getting out of hand… greens are terrible, tee boxes , same. Doesn’t look like they are treating any weeds growing in the greens. Playing behind a 5 somes, and 2 foursomes that took forever..
That is because the golf course constantly double books the same tee time. Backs everything up and the course manager David could care less.
City Council needs to look at a new golf course manager. Should not be strictly about money and members ONLY should get to make tee times until 10AM.
Actually on the Pines Wednesday and yes, threesome in front around 11:30 - it WAS your fault - could have let us play through and we would take our chances on passing the twosome then. NOT your call to hold us up for 14 flipping holes and YES, we did you all 3 of you hitting extra shots holding us up more. Absolutely no manners - probably uneducated, no manners Northerners. DON't be in front of us again - ever!! Course in so so shape and pace of play for a Wednesday was well, not good.
