Legends Golf & Country Club
About
Legends Golf & Country Club offers an 18-hole championship course that has become one of the most popular golf courses in central Florida. The course features dramatic elevation changes, which allow golfers to take in breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and citrus groves. Legends Golf & Country Club is known for its par-3 holes, but one of the most memorable holes is the par-4 fifth hole. The hole is a downhill dogleg left with an elevated tee that provides a spectacular view. Legends Golf & Country Club has a classic, moderately difficult layout that is difficult if approached too casually but also quite playable, even from the championship tees.

Good Value
First time at the Legends. Despite the fact that the greens had been recently aerated, they were in great shape. Putts ran true.
I no longer use a driver, hitting only my trusted 3-wood off the tee. I try to use tees at about 6000 yards. I did that here, but some of the par 4's were way out of my reach. In other words, they were challenging.
Thankfully, I was paired with three members, who pointed out the really tough shots and suggested ball placement. Thanks for that!
I would go another round on this course.
A different course for Florida
Except for the Clermont/Mt. Dora area, most Florida courses are about the strategic use of water to force certain lines of play. Legends, like others in this area relies more on sloping fairways and changes in elevation. The greens and tee boxes are in good shape. Although, for their contours, some of the greens need to play a bit slower to be fair. One of my playing partners hit a putt from 50 feet to the upper shelf of the green, missed the top of the ridge by a couple of feet and had the ball roll back to within a couple of steps from where he started. That's a bit penal for amateur golf. It would also help if the speed on the practice green bore any resemblance to the speed on the course (of course it also doesn't help that most of the practice green is sloped away from where you approach it, while most of the greens are slopped towards the front).
Fairways are kept very short. So short unfortunately that a little frost in January/February has left some sizeable bare areas where the grass was killed by the frost. The short fairways allow for a lot of roll. Nice on a downhill, but less so on a sidehill. I may go back in the late summer to see if they have recovered.
Challenging course & friendly staff
I like this course, as it is one of the more challenging courses in the area. There is water, rolling hills, and elevation changes that make for a challenging round of golf.
The staff is very friendly. Great carts with GPS and the onsite restaurant is very good.
As for condtions....The tee boxes were awful on the front side, and improved on the back. Fairways were, well, just fair and the greens were in decent shape.
I got a great Hot Deal on this so I can not complain, but I would not have been happy to pay the full daily rate and had tee boxes without grass.
Usually much better
Typically a very nice course but very disappointed in the course today.
Great greens
The newer greens were excellent. The tees and fairways were subpar
Ragged tee boxes
The course wasn’t to bad other than the ragged areas in the fairways and tee boxes, greens were fine though!
Fairways and rough
Course needs rest and recovery time. Fairways need grass. The rough is full of weeds. Layout is solid. Greens are solid. Tee boxes, fairways and rough need attention.
Tee box
The tee boxes were bare raw otherwise the course was in good shape
nice greens
A 45 minute drive for me, but I always liked this place. A little worn in some fairway spots...greens were real nice.
Little Grass
Fairway's and tee boxes were poor. Main dirt spots. Had to play preferred lies often to find grass. The putting green was impressively quick, the greens were healthy, but slow. Very disappointed to not have the grass range open. Unsure why not. The mats were poor quality. Course has a lot of potential with money and TLC. Staff was friendly.
Potential to be so much better
Potential for a 4 star course.............. but...........
The layout is really interesting, plenty of elevation changes and some VERY tricky par 3's make for a good test of golf, so why the but ?
Some staff are surly to the point of being rude, certainly not individuals who should be in any customer facing role. ( the others were however excellent). The condition of the tee boxes was shockingly poor, having been lucky enough to play many many courses all over the world, these were without any doubt the worst I have ever had to play off. A common thread is the condition of the fairways, they are pretty awful. ( we decided to play "preferred lies", which did make life a bit better.) Greens were well paced if not a little firm.
Index 1 6th is a great hole, as is the par 3 13th which is 180+yards, all carry to hit the green.
In it's current state it is certainly not a $90 course
Good value
The 1st two fairways are in poor shape but it gets better after, greens are in nice shape and difficult to read, approach shots will hold, course layout offers challenging holes with variety. Tee boxes are beat up but doesn’t affect playability.
One of the better values in Orlando area!
What the heck has happened to this course?
I gotta tell you I’m really disappointed in where this course is right now. This has been my favorite course in all of the Orlando area since it reopened and I’m sure if you went back far enough in these reviews you could find me going on and on about how great this place is (or was). The tee boxes and fairways are in dire straits. I’ve always been one to pay the price for something good but my goodness the greens can’t save the overall value for me. As it stands $45 is probably the most I’d pay to play in its current condition. I have faith it will be back to how it ls been the last 2 years but I know the hard months on course maintenance are lurking as the summer approaches.
