Colonial Country Club
About
Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Florida (2014 #11)
Reviews
One of the best golf in Fort Myers area
This golf course is amazing, located in a condo but the houses are never close to the fairways, so better than a lot of other golfs.
Maintenance is excellent and greens are very quick.
When you are in Fort Myets you have to play the Colonial golf course.
Nice Experience
Colonial is a very nice course. The tees, fairways and rough are in great shape. The greens are a bit firm and seem to be about a 10. The roll true if you can figure out the speed as the grain plays a significant roll at this course. Some of the fairways have sloping sides but very fair if you hit left or right. I seemed to find my ball most of the time.
Mixed Review
This is a challenging private golf course that apparently wants to generate a little extra revenue by utilizing its open time slots. I'm okay with that. But I'm not convinced that management really wants anything more than the bucks. As a result, an outsider coming in is unsure whether he feels welcome or not. I felt the latter.....How much better it would have been if they treated outsiders as guests and potential new members some day. You never know.
As for the facilities, they have a nicely sized aqua range but were using the artificial grass mats (not sure what they were saving the grass for at this time of year). The practice green was adequate and there was a small pitching/chipping area which gave a nice preview of course conditions you would see during the round.
The golf course was somewhat quirky and coupled with it being a windy day, it made for a tougher than normal first time out. Playing the blue/white combo tees provided all the challenge I needed. My 41 on the back nine was reasonable especially since I was never really sure what the optimum target lines would be. As a result I found myself hitting a few hazards that could easily have been avoided. By the time the round was over, I found myself ready to leave and perhaps that's what management wants. If so, they're doing a great job.
All in all, I can't give it my highest endorsement and would remind you that with all the courses available in the Ft Myers/Naples area, you have choices.
2nd time even better
2nd time player to this beautiful golf course and it was better the second time. ..greens impeccable, fairways plush and manicure very well!! highly recommend
True Country Club Feel
We were treated like Country Club members, although we are not, from the minute we dropped off our bag to the final round and drive in - cleaning and arranging our clubs, with bag delivery back to the entrance. Course was beautiful and somewhat challenging. We were paired with two very nice guys who were very good golfers, and my husband and I really enjoyed our round with them. I am a female, so this review may be a bit different than the rest of the reviews. Very fine day!
Colonial is an excellent experience
The course was very fun to play. The pace of play was busy, but very acceptable. We enjoyed this course playing as a foursome.
Looking for 9-hole refund
Course is excellent however could only play 9 holes. Severe weather report and heavy rain canceled the back nine. Please verify with the course and issue a nine-hole refund (as suggested by Pro Shop). The date was Thursday, April 17th, late afternoon.
Thank you

Great round of golf
Great course layout, great organization.
We were started at the 18th hole, and were rewarded with no waiting at any time, which was great. Course condition and facilities Are Somerset of the best we've seen. Highly recommended.
Nice place to play
Stunning setting, nice course design, some really challanging holes from the tournament Tees. Greens in great shape, super fast. Nice staff. Definitely worth the money.
Course is beautiful
We loved this course. Forgiving fairways yet challenging enough to keep you focused. Staff was very helpful and the clubhouse was beautiful. We are considering a membership.
Lovely Grounds
Forgiving Fairways and huge Greens. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Course in excellent shape.
Everyone took pride in what they do.

One of the best upscale public access cource locally
This was my second time playing the course. Loved it the first time. Completely enjoyed playing the second time around. Course condition was excellent. Greens were fast but playable. Had to get accustomed to the very large greens. Staff friendliness was about average. Would recommend playing because its one of the few upscale courses that allow public access.
Great Golf Course
This course has always been in great shape and did not disappoint again. A fun course to play and enough tees to fine your perfect distance. Open fairways, good true greens.
tough but fun to play
this course is as good as any 4.5 rated course you'll play.
awesome
late afternoon, steady but light rain but I would play in these conditions on this course anytime. scenic, rolling fairways, well groomed greens and bunkers. very playable.
Colonial Country Club
Challenging and long. If you like Challenging golf holes one and two will get you started. Playing from the whites or the blues you will get more golf than you bargained for.
Doesn't Get Better Than This!
I have played many, many golf courses around the country: several that are PGA tour stops each year. I challenge you to find a course that is better manicured than this one, from the tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, greens, etc. Don't take my word for it. Play there and you will say the same. Phenomenal track.
Great Course
We enjoyed our game and the course, we would definitely play it again.
