Good course for higher handicaps
Pelican preserve has 3 nines. I played the ibis and heron as a single. I got matched up with another single and a twosome. Pace of play was slower than I prefer, do to the makeup of our group and skill levels, as well as to the condition of the course being soaked from several days of heavy rains which resulted in a cart path only situation. The Ibis course had several areas of causal water which made many fairway shots difficult to hit. The Heron appeared to drain alot better and did not have as many issues. Truth be told I dont think the Ibis should have been considered playable as there was just too much standing water. It didnt help that we got a few heavy, but quick rains throughout the round either.
The make up of the course seems very forgiving, with not that many opportunities to lose your ball on errant shots. For the most part fairways were pretty wide and had reasonably safe areas for misses. The distances from the white tees were not terribly aggressive and most par 3s were very hittable.
I was able to get a great hot deal price for this 24 hours before the tee time. I am not sure I would pay more to pay again, as the course is about 35-40 minutes from where I live. I had an enjoyable time and would consider playing again in the future.
GOOD LAYOUT
TOO BAD IT WAS SO WET, RAIN HAS BEEN RELENTLESS BUT COURSE STILL PLAYED PRETTY WELL CONSIDERING. LOVE DESIGN & LOCATION. CLOSE TO HOUSE AND WORK BOTH. WILL PLAY AGAIN.
Pace was my only issue
I like the course itself, but they need to have a ranger on the course to keep the pace of play moving. I was in a 2some behind three 4somes that were oblivious to the players around them, and the round took far longer than it needed to.
Generous fairways
Course plays longer than it looks. Felt that I needed to take at least one more club on all approaches over 100 yds. Very fair greens.
Decent track
We were first off on Sunday morning, played in 4 hrs. Good variety on the different 9's. Played Ibis and Egret. Lots of water on course, but also relatively wide open. Greens were in good shape but very slow, maybe due to lots of rain night before. Would play again.
