Sitting water and mud most holes at full price
Booked a tee time and played Saturday morning. It hadn't rained since Monday so was expecting decent conditions and since they were charging full rack rates, assumed they would be decent. No warning, even at check in, that a large portion of the course was going to be mud and/or sitting water. Holes 1 and 10 literally had "ponds" several inches deep in the fairways and deep mud that you could easily get your cart stuck in with nothing roped off. The grass under these fairway "ponds" was all dead and there was just dirt left so it had obviously been there for a significant period of time. Most bunkers were full of water as well. But at least the greens were in pretty good shape. We'd already paid and drove all the way out there so we just played.
I went to the pro shop after the round to give them some feedback on their conditions and failure to notify us that their course was in such poor shape. I wasn't asking for a refund or anything, just wanted to let them know how disappointing it was that their conditions were so bad and that it didn't seem reasonable to be charging full price for that. There were a couple holes that I literally needed to get a ball retriever out to pull my ball out of the water in the middle of the fairway. The guy in the pro shop said they got 8 inches of rain on Monday which is not even close to the truth. San Diego annual rainfall is about 10 inches per year. Plus the dead grass in those puddles/ponds show that the water had been sitting there for some time without any attempt to prepare the course to playable conditions. He then went on to say that nobody else complained so it was okay to charge full price. And when I said that they should at least give people some notice that the conditions are that poor/flooded, even if it's when we're checking in, he didn't really have a response.
I probably won't be playing again here anytime soon at least until I know their conditions have improved significantly.
Golf in the Mountains of Ramona
Woodson is a fantastic course that they continue to maintain very well. The pace was great with an 0815 tee time; any later it would have been more stacked up.
The green complexes are fast and fun and club selection is critical to get right.
If you don’t have a range Finder then best of luck because the carts do not have GPS. That said, this place is so beautiful and peaceful. Good times!
Fun course
They are working on the course which is throwing it off a bit in the appearance and 10th hole play. Overall it is a fun course and definitely worth a try. Greens were in great condition and most tee boxes were in good condition. Will play again
Scenic golf
I’ve played here before
I had to travel an hour to get here but well worth the drive
Beautiful course and layout
I’ll be back
A Journey of the Spirit
This course is hard for me as a 22 hc but it is always fun and challenging. Some of the mountain views are inspirational. I consider the course to be my church and Mt. Woodson is a Cathedral.
Work Being Done
I was very disappointed to discover a number of issues with the course that were not disclosed prior to booking my tee time. Frist off all the greens and some fairways had been recently punched...no warning. The main water feature on 1 and 10 is a large muddy hole in the ground and number 10 is partially closed. Even with this all going on they charged full price. The pace was also brutally slow and there wasn't a course marshall in sight. We finally gave up after almost 5 hours of waiting at every single tee box to play.
Absolutely a hidden gem
This course was absolutely in great shape. Greens were fast fairways. We're in amazing shape. Well worth the money. I recommend to play this course, especially for the mount great experience. Great stuff, great course.
Work to be done
Made a tee time for someone in our groups birthday. Unfortunately unbeknownst to us and some others we encountered, the greens, and some fairways had been punched and sanded.Oh well, we came there for the birthday round because everyone in our foursome love the course and we hadn’t played it in about 6 months. An other unfortunate detail, the first hole is under renovation. The pond in front of hole 10 and next to hole 1, is drained and and being excavated. Tees are moved forward from the clubhouse to about mid fairway. Unfortunate for us. But still a good time had as the rest of the course is in decent shape and not as busy , (probably because the regulars knew about the aeration). It is March but it would have been nice to have known via Teeoff.com what was going on. One of the reasons we played there is our regular course announced they were punching greens that week.
