Frustrating but beautiful
Beautiful course.
Would not recommend to any newer or even average golfers.
Many long carries, extremely tight fairways with punishing hazards. I'm an 11 handicapper and at times struggles to have fun out there.
If you're a low handicapper, leave the driver in the car and hop to it. Especially for the hot deal price of $14!!!
Would pay $30 to play here.
A Journey of the Spirit
This course is hard for me as a 22 hc but it is always fun and challenging. Some of the mountain views are inspirational. I consider the course to be my church and Mt. Woodson is a Cathedral.
Work Being Done
I was very disappointed to discover a number of issues with the course that were not disclosed prior to booking my tee time. Frist off all the greens and some fairways had been recently punched...no warning. The main water feature on 1 and 10 is a large muddy hole in the ground and number 10 is partially closed. Even with this all going on they charged full price. The pace was also brutally slow and there wasn't a course marshall in sight. We finally gave up after almost 5 hours of waiting at every single tee box to play.
Absolutely a hidden gem
This course was absolutely in great shape. Greens were fast fairways. We're in amazing shape. Well worth the money. I recommend to play this course, especially for the mount great experience. Great stuff, great course.
Work to be done
Made a tee time for someone in our groups birthday. Unfortunately unbeknownst to us and some others we encountered, the greens, and some fairways had been punched and sanded.Oh well, we came there for the birthday round because everyone in our foursome love the course and we hadn’t played it in about 6 months. An other unfortunate detail, the first hole is under renovation. The pond in front of hole 10 and next to hole 1, is drained and and being excavated. Tees are moved forward from the clubhouse to about mid fairway. Unfortunate for us. But still a good time had as the rest of the course is in decent shape and not as busy , (probably because the regulars knew about the aeration). It is March but it would have been nice to have known via Teeoff.com what was going on. One of the reasons we played there is our regular course announced they were punching greens that week.
Mt Woodson
Working on the course had to play back nine twice, pace slow, bunkers need sand, greens all sanded. Please post these things on golf now especially if course is altered.
My favorite course in SD county
The course is in great shape considering the amount of rain we’ve received this past month. There are still a couple of muddy spots but they’re easy to avoid. Greens were smooth and we finished in a little over 4 hours.
Can’t wait to play here again
Demoralizing but a good value
Ok, so the layout is killer. Pace was really, really bad. Greens were in great shape. And man this course is hard. Skinny fairways and elevated greens. Fairways were in really bad condition, tee boxes were generally solid. A major downside would be the driving range. It’s a hitting net you have to pay to use which is bizzare. Also, they have a giant sign advertising their new practice green, but when you walk over to it, it’s covered in sand and not usable.
Mt. Woodson
Was cart path only due to recent rains. Some sketchy areas on/around a few geeens...and number 10 playing as par 3 has little to no drainage in fairway. But a nice course and always a good time.
Interesting layout
Even though it was a rainy day on and off when I played the course was in still in good shape. Very scenic as the wind through the mountains. A good test of golf. Well worth playing
Always fun
This is a challenging and unique course, but always enjoyable to play. One star off because the main water feature that hugs number 1 and 10 is now just a very large muddy hole and has been that way for awhile. As always, the pace of play here is not great.
Meh
Leaves alot to be desired for the overall experience. Course layout is quirky but fun. Greens were in good shape and rolling fast but true. The rest of the course had some issues from tee boxes to bunkers with no sand to patches of crab grass. Staff was generally unhelpful and disorganized. It says on their website that you can rent an individual cart if you are a single if you pay extra. The lady checking me out and the starter acted like it required an act of congress. No I do not want to share a cart with a stranger for 4.5 hours
Such a challenge and masterpiece of design
I have played every executive course in San Diego and I would place Mt. Woodson as my top 3 to play. She really challenges your game with the carved out holes through the canyons. Don't be deterred buy the over-all short yardage! It will expose your weaknesses. Just look at the Slope rating. Great value for the quality and difficulty of this track. Please come out and experience it for yourself.
