Reviews
Too expensive for course condition
So I started playing SBW back in 2002 so I know this course. This is the first time i've played since it reopened last year. The bright spot of the course are the way the greens roll. Putted extremely well. The greens are hard as a rock though. Ball bounced very high and was hard to keep it on the green. That was even after the ton of rain that was just laid down on the course. The fairways are in mediocre shape. The grass needs to keep growing and there are a fair amount of bumps in places. The rough is horrible. It's mainly just the weeds that had previously grown when the course was closed, just mowed down. Same around the greens. In its current condition it's about a $40 course. We had the course to ourselves, which was nice but i'm sure that was due to the high price as I called Forest Lake and they were jam packed. If they priced the course right for its current condition then I think they would get a lot more business and have more money to improve the course quicker. If they keep it high I'll be surprised if this course doesn't close again. I'd hate that as I always loved playing here. Course has a nice layout with the right amount of water to make play a bit challenging. It just needs some TLC and time.
Course condition
The courses condition was not very good
very sparse grass and the rough was not very good I have played that course many years ago and it was in great condition but was disappointed at the shape it was in. Need some care to bring it back to where it was years ago
Has great potential
From what I was told the course just re-opened after years of being closed and neglected. The greens are in great shape, fairways and rough still needs to fill in but give this course some time and it will be a very fun course to play.
Good experience with recently reopened course.
Pace was very slow and no apparent effort from staff to address it. Otherwise a solid experience. Greens in very good condition. Tees and fairways so-so, avg for low- moderate tier course this time of year. Staff good !!
Could be better
My first time playing since course reopened. Got a good rate on GolfNow. The greens are very good but the fairways need work. Lots of bare spots Though the fairways would be in better condition after the rehab of the course. The daily fee they charge is too high for the course Staff helped a lot to move a group two holes ahead that were causing extremely slow play. Pace picked up after their assistance
Great Burgers!
The course is still in a stage of growing back in. Fairways and rough are sparse in a lot of areas. Played off a lot of dirt and mud. Greens would be decent if players fixed their ball marks.
Always enjoyed the layout of SBW. Pretty challenging on its good days.
A Welcome Return
I aways loved this course and was saddened when it closed. Given the neighborhood it runs through, I always expected it to reopen, but didn't expect it would take so long. At any rate, the course layout is unchanged. Given it's recent reopening, I agree that it remains a work in progress but is still very playable. The fairways are thin, needing time to mature, but the greens are good and apart from a few holes on the back 9, we were pleasantly surprised.
Getting Better!
I’ve played this course 3 times in the past 3 months and the conditions keep getting better. The greens are always perfect. They were in great condition and rolling fast and true. The fairways were much better than the last time I played and seem to be growing in more. They should be really nice by the rain season. Tee boxes were better too. I don’t care about tee boxes until I get to Par 3s. I had no issues this round. The only negative is the rough. The rough is still REALLY ROUGH. Not sure how they’re going to correct that but I’d imagine that will get better over time as well. I’ve always loved the challenging layout here. Will definitely be back.
The Course hasn't been re-opened that long.
I really like the layout of it course. Considering how long they opened back up, the course was in OK shape. The greens were really good. The tees were in decent shape. The fairways were OK. However, the rough and around the greens were on rough shape. I'll play again, but not until after the summer.
Very nice course, Well maintained. Water in play for a lot of holes. Greens fast ,
Just ok
Went to this course for first time since it was shutdown. The positives are the greens were in good shape, fairways were decent too. Everything else was subpar though. Pace of play wasn’t great and they didn’t have enough golf carts. Staff friendliness wasn’t good. I booked a tee time yet they hurried me to go ahead even earlier than my time so didn’t get to even use the range. I had a cart and then the staff was like we need you to move in to the cart with this other person because we don’t have enough carts. the main issue was cost for the quality of course and service. I got a hot rate but even that rate isn’t worth spending. Can’t imagine anyone paying the regular rate of $75 to play here, especially when there is Orange County National that is sooo much better.
Nice
Nice course with many challenges, sand oceans of water and some trees. Staff extra friendly will play again.
Much bettter but work to do
No rain lately but is was soft muddy. Still a lot
Of bare spots. And fraiways are thin
