Cabo San Lucas CC a tough test at a value
When I visited the course in June of 2012, Director of Golf Eric Grindereng gave me the amazingly bad-luck back story of the club.
Original architect Roy Dye -- Pete Dye's brother -- passed away during construction, forcing his son, Matthew, to finish the 7,220-yard golf course, which opened in 1995.
Financial woes have plagued several owners of the course, forcing several name changes. In 2001, flooding from Hurricane Juliette took out six of the holes on the back nine.
Grindereng indicated a new owner had the club poised for a rebirth. A recently completed multi-million-dollar water treatment facility launched plans to update the irrigation system.
Nine lakes and small greens make this one of the toughest tests in Los Cabos. The view of the famous Arch at Land's End remains the property's major selling point. It's a beautiful spot, and solid routing, when somebody looks after it.
The conditioning was very poor on my visit, especially compared to the other premier resort courses I played, Cabo Real, Puerto Los Cabos, etc. I was told this is a "working man's" course where locals play.
Pace of play
We played with a member and his friend. We felt pushed all day. We typically play “ready golf” but this was extreme. There was only a 2 behind us who declined to play through, so what’s the rush???
Course was nice with nice views, but were discouraged to take pictures since we were in such a rush. We played the course in less than 4 hours so had no idea why we had to be so rushed.
Great Value In the Middle of Cabo
Great value for the price in the heart of Cabo San Lucas. Course needs a little love (fungus on greens) but overall, the conditions were pretty good and the pace of play was excellent. Finished in 3.5 hours and it was a great day.
Back 9 has great views of the ocean and The Arch and the food and the snack bar was great. Would recommend for a round in Cabo!
Wouldn't pay full price
Not as bad as some other reviewers have posted. I hit a Hot Deal with an extra 20% off so for $159pp I thought it was fair. I wouldn't pay over $200 though. First 9 need a little TLC but the back was in good condition. Overall a fun afternoon.
Dog track with website lipstick photos
This will be the most disappointing $275 you ever spent at a golf course. From tee to Greene total dog track 12 of 18 holes. Owned by an accountant managed by a the voice of one . Staff is very nice, they entirely understand your complaints and disappointments with the course conditions but their hands are tied as they have zero input, because super Mario voice is the only one that matters. They will not even put seed on bare spots to even attempt to make the fairways better. They do not want to spend a single dollar on this course more than they have to.
Even owners are fleeing and asking for their money back. The course has great potential in the hands of someone who knows about Golf and understands you need to spend money to make money.
If you spent $60 to play this course, you’d probably walk away disappointed. Load your cooler to have a good time, this might take your mind of what you just paid to play this track.

Fun day
Fun layout, could use some TLC. Staff was very friendly, pace of play was very good and fast.
Course experience
The course was easy to play . Nice layout , plenty of sand traps but a little more fine sand in the traps around the greens is needed , too gravelly. Fairways are reachable from most tees for seniors but some of the holes are very long from the white tees next time I’ll probably play the gold tees . Live and learn . Greens were difficult and tough to read and a few needed some repair . The staff was great . Very helpful ! I will play again ! The score cards could also give a layout of all the holes so you can tell where and what’s on the course in front of you .
The course layout is very exciting
the greens and views are immaculate, the layout is very fun and great pace. did not have to wait on the tee box at all. The staff are very appreciative.
Not worth the money
Course was in very poor shape. Uneven tee boxes, dirt patches in the fairways and weeds growing on some greens. Sand bunkers were packed dirt. Small greens and no elevation changes. Don't waste your time or money on this course.
only course available
Over the years I have played this course about 6 times. Originally it had a sewage odor problem. But this time I only got a small whiff of it. The course is acceptable.
Could be a 4 course.
The course needs lots of T&L. Most greens were fine.
Cabo
Played there 12 years ago and the course was in poor condition and that hadn’t changed. Fairways were patchy and greens were rough. The courses in Cabo are very expensive but mostly very well taken care of. Not this one.Should of known from the start. Had to hit off of worn down mats on the range.
Average
First time playing this course. From the drive in you could tell that there is very little investment within the surrounding country club community. The course layout was alright, fairly forgiving and greens held their line decent. No cart girl. Older carts. For the money there are many better courses within the Cabo area.
Old style layout
My wife and I have played this course many times and enjoy the layout. It is a challenging course to score on. For her it is easier to walk this course then the newer designs around Los Cabos as there is not as much mounding around the greens.
Worse ripoff ever
Certainly! Here's a corrected version of your review:
What a disappointment! I regret falling into the trap of the Cabo San Lucas Country Club. Despite its appealing name, it turned out to be worse than even a mediocre municipal course. The greens are in worse condition than my own garden, and the fairways are dry, sandy, with barely any decent grass. Considering I've played at Palmilla and Campestre for less, the price simply doesn't justify the poor quality here. Additionally, the lack of GPS and the quality of the food were both disappointing. I definitely won't be returning.
Course is full of dry areas threw out! Not worth the money!
Not the best, worth the money
12:30 tee time, we never caught up with whoever playing before us. We finished in a little over 4 hours. Great experience! Course layout is interesting. Fairway and green condition is so so.
Twe times booked way to close
We were waiting atevery tee box and gree which is fine not a huge deal but the Marshall kept saying we were the alow players and people were actually hitting into us
I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with us, believe me, we are working on these problems that you mentioned and I hope you can give us the opportunity to receive you once again so we can have a better opinion of you. Good morning, here is my mail in case you like to talk to me.
