Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Illinois (2015 #10)
Reviews
Best Value in Area
great layout, forces you to make shots, couple reachable par 5s
Fun and challenging course, great condition
This was my 4th time playing this course, and it has never been in better condition. I believe there is new ownership and they seem to be committed to maintaining the course in great condition. Wonderful fairways and high quality greens make for a true golfing experience. Many tee options for every type of golfer and though not a long course there is quite a bit of strategy involved on many holes. Lots of contour so you will get some uneven lies. Only complaint is that some greens have tree debris but they seem to be cleared fairly regularly. Great clubhouse and excellent food (full menu). Good value compared to other "elite" area courses.
Great
The golf course was in great condition for 30 degree weather.
Beautiful Course, Strongly Recommend
Great place to play golf. Was both challenging and very fun. The mix of hills and trees made this a very beautiful course. I would recommend this course to everyone. Great value also through Golf Now.
This course is a great track. It has a challenge level to it that few other courses in central Illinois have
I think that as challenging as the course is that they need to have the yardage more apparent on course. The score card only had minimal distances, and being the first time we played, it was hard to tell where to hit our shots at times. The Tee boxes were also in poor condition, not flat, missing grass on most of the tees, just bad shape. The greens were in good shape. The ball rolled fairly true. Overall, it was a treat to be able to play such a well designed golf course. I shot 80 - 40-40. My son shot 84.
Great course and great staff.
Great and challenging golf course, will play here again, Thanks.
need to maintain the course better
The bunkers needs maintain better. I don't think they can charge normal price to us if they keep the condition like this.
Great course, but stay outta the sand!
Nice course with challenging holes, especially the front half. The course is typically in good shape with one exception - the sand traps. I think it would be easier to hit a shot off the cart path rather than out of the traps. It's good that they're hard though. Half of the rakes either had the head fall off or looked broken.
Awesome course
Really nice course, and thanks to golfnow.com played it for a great price
had a great time with nephew excellent value
although a couple of greens and fairways had some rough spots overall great experience will be back for sure
grea,t challenging course
even though course has had little or no rain in over a week to week and a half course was in wonderful shape
Very good value. Challenging but fair.
Very good value. Challenging but fair. A must play if in the Peoria area.
Excellent condition, Nice pace of play
Great conditions to golf in with everyone keeping the proper pace of play! Greens and fairways well kept with the rough playing a little challenging in certain areas. Two thumbs up!
The course was in good condition.
The ciurse was challenging. The sraff was helpful.
I would play course again.
Course under repair
This course was poorly constructed and is poorly maintained for a course that claims the credentials this course claims.
Very demanding course.
This course demands correct tee shot placement over length. The greens are demanding yet fair.
Great challenge
Great course value, challenging for all player type. If you can score on this course you can play anywhere.

Cons
I’m just getting into golf and have played 35-40 rounds in my short career and I’m not great (20-24 handicap). To be fair, the area has received a ton of rain in the past couple of weeks but it looked like a course-wide Easter egg hunt because the first cut off rough mimicked that of the US Open. We lost about 20 balls between my buddy and I and those only include the ones that would have been findable on any other course without a 6" first cut of rough. I was exhausted after our round since any ball we hit that was not in the fairway was BURIED and hacking balls out of that cut was tough.
The grass that was cut was not bagged so there was a ton of mulch throughout the entire course, including the fairways. I heard this course had water issues, but outside of the third hole, we didn't experience any issues with wet conditions. Most of the greens were in fair condition but a couple (especially at hole 3) were pretty poor (to be kind).
They claimed there were plenty of markers on the course to judge distances but outside of those marked on the cart path, they were hard to find. Maybe I’m spoiled by the GPS carts common to areas where I typically play but getting a read on the distances was tough.
Pros
Green, green, green! We don’t get this quality of grass in Texas (at least where I play) and it was very nice to experience some of the courses in the area. I really loved the layout of the course; tons of elevation changes, challenging approaches, and generally really beautiful surroundings. but couldn't imagine walking this course as the cart path grades were unreal in many places. The guys at the pro shop were nice and the locker room qaulity was high compared to other courses I’ve been to within this price range (Lick Creek). Tee boxes for the most part were well taken care of too. Warm up green was in great condition too. Plenty of water coolers throughout the course when we played.
I would definitely play here again but not before I got tired of the other courses in the area that have been given more attention and offer better rates. Given what you can golf for at other courses in the area, Lick Creek specifically, I think this course should drop its rates a couple of bucks.
fun and challenging course is well-maintained
A top-notch experience all around on a fun and challenging course. Club staff and amenities will have you returning and telling others to go play Coyote Creek.
Played on a day when it was cart path only.
This is not a course that is setup well for cart path only. Took forever to play due to this. Did not believe there was much rain the previous night, but the course was mushy and very wet.
