Sunol Valley Cypress & Palm Now Closed
Sadly both courses at Sunol Valley closed as of January 2016.
Out of Business!
I paid for a course that is out of business. i paid for 18 holes with a cart. got there and they said oh we sold all our carts and we are closing early. so i walk actually jogged 9 holes in 1 hour.
Needs water
We played the palm side. The course has a good layout but because of the drought (like most courses right now) there is a lot of dead patches everywhere. There was a frost delay which happens, but the two young kids who were at the front desk and sitting on the counter were fairly rude to anyone who asked when or how much longer it would be. The food was great as usual. Overall it's worth the money and despite the two at the front desk I will go back.
Target golf for a good round
Mid day start on a weekday. Light traffic on the course. Greens were good, a little fast. Drought has effected the condition of some fairways. Bare spots are harder to play from. Lots of slopes and contour require adjustments to club selection. Hazards are unforgiving. Doglegs make the course more challenging. Setting up approach shots is rewarded with lower scores. I plan to play again.
Beautiful view and nice to play
So close from San Jose only 20min driving and looks like a resort place. I'll absolutely visit here more again!
Fairways nearly dead, makes golfing difficult
The tees and greens are the only part of the course that is getting any amount of water. The greens are actually good, but the rest of the course is in deep, deep trouble during the drought.
Apparently this course does NOT have access to any recycled water and playing it is pretty much a joke.
I will not likely return until the drought is over, and maybe a year later to give it a long time to recover.
Sunol as usual condition
Played Palm,,,long and had bit of wind.
With dry condition, can't expect too much from the course.
Enjoyed.
Cow pastor
Dont pay to play here..
its not worth it even free.
First timer
A little tired of playing all the courses in my area decided to try Sunol out. Despite all the negative reviews of pace of play and unfriendly staff. I had a great time here we had a 9:00 tee time started right on time if not a little early and played our round in 4 hours. The fairways are in decent shape not perfect but ok. The greens and bunkers are great. The course itself isn't super challenging but the value of playing a nice course for a reasonable fee if ok with me. I will be back to play the Palm course and back for cypress again also.
Windy but fun
Challenging pin placements and empty course made this really fun.
Windy
I played the Palm course. Strong wind makes your game more difficult. The tee boxes are very closed each other for some holes, so be careful about playing wrong holes or hit somebody on the another tee box.
One thing that I don't like is their carts need to be change. Oil carts.
fire sale
Booked a fire sale @ golfnow, half hour before my tee time. Go to the pro shop, no one in shop, wait 10 min. Some dick comes out finally, ask can I help you, I said yes 1257 tee time for one. Then he wants me to pay?? I said its a fire sale on golfnow its prepaid. So with poor internet connection @ facility, Im trying to prove I paid, finally some guy from the back office comes out 20 min later and said he had my email conformation. 40 after my tee time I play golf. My reel beef is the dick in the proshop, was a real ahole, made me feel like I was trying to get one over on him. Never will play there again. Explains why the parking lot was empty.
Sunol Valley GC
Course was in great shape. Greens are very difficult, but true. Course layout was fun. Definitely coming back.
Played Cypress
This was my first time playing. I went out as. Single with a tee time of 9:22 am. Was like Liu that there were two other singles and we got to start at 9.
Both gents had played the course previously so that was helpful. Front 9 seemed a bit tougher than the back even though the wind kicked up on the back 9.
Young guy in the pro shop was friendly and helpful, starter was accomodating , the course was in good shape considering the drought and the pace of play was was dead on at 4 hours with no waiting at the tees. My experience here was very good and I will play there again.
Sun-hole in one!
Amazing course lay out, well manicured.
Wrapped up 18 in 4 hours on a Saturday. Worth every penny.
Best round in a long time
Haven't been out for a while but Sunol never lets me down. Good time with good friends. Course was in awesome condition and the weather cooperated too!
CALinks
Very much in the style of CA Links
It's adequate architecture in the course. You shouldn't lose any balls. It goes at a 4 to 4.5 hr pace. Staff in the clubhouse were friendly. The staff outside of the clubhouse were arrogant and didn't want to be bothered when servicing customers needs.
Mind you there were no transparent signs to get to the front nine. A simple inquiry with a respectful response was all I needed but the cart staff were surprisingly obnoxious when the staff was asked to guide us to the furst hole.
Slow pace of play.
Pace of play is always the issue with this course. The marshal who just drives around doing nothing should really get groups to speed things up.
Average
Met some friends here to get together for a round. Pace of play got off to a good start, but by the back nine the pace had slowed significantly. Got rounded up just after sunset to turn in our cart (which was SLOW!!).
I guess I'm spoiled, but this wasn't a great course.
I won't be back:-(
As Expected for $50
Greens are in good condition, bu the rest of the course is not recovering well from the rains. Plenty of unmown rough, patchy bald spots and mud. Expect to take a minute trying to find a level stance on the tee boxes. The facilities and carts (still gas powered) are slowly decaying with no visible improvements over the last 10 years. I played the Cypress side.
