Much better than last year.
Even though it is still early in the season here the course is in much better condition than when we played it at this time last year. The tee boxes are in good condition and cut. The fairways are cut properly, but there is still lots of winter kill and some are still soggy. The greens are generally good with minimal winter damage, freshly cut and quick for this time of year. They have paved most of the cart paths. It is good to see this course getting some t.l.c. as it could be one of the best public tracks in the area if they can keep improving the conditioning,
Golf now contract
Not sure what’s going on with the business end of things here but I was told upon arriving at the course that the contract with golf now expired.
Therefore I had to pay at the golf course and get a refund from golf now!
Might want to look into this further before booking online at this course through GN.
True test of skill
Every time I think I’m getting better I play this course and get taken down a few pegs. Yes there are nicer courses in the area but they have been steadily making it look better. This is one of the toughest courses in Alberta and very unforgiving. I only play it a few times a year but always enjoy the challenge. You need to hit long to avoid trouble and keep it in the fairways to have a chance of shooting well. LOTS of water, I’ve played links courses in PEI that have less water hazards.
Terrible course
Worst golf course in Edmonton. Tee boxes are terrible with long grass; fairways are worst. I don’t know which is better, fairways or rough. Greens are horrendous! You have a better chance of chipping than putting. A ghetto for the hackers. Shame on you!
Lots of water (springs)and dog legs - Good value
The course was really damaged by the spring freezing, especially the greens. It took months but was back to its usual good shape by August, great now after all the rain. I love this course, am a member of Thursday men's league which is also very cheap, relaxed. This is my go to course in Edmonton.
Terrible greens
It's mid May and you'd expect the greens to be ready. They were all brown except 1 hole. They need to make a little more effort to maintain this course. We went to other courses before today and they were ready.
Needs work
The Course was in rough shape, the greens were patchy and the fairways were brown. If your a skilled golfer it can be frustrating when your putts are bouncing all over the place. Would not go back until the greens a fairways are better.
Cheap round but poor greens.
It was late in the season so this may be justifiable.
Price was right
The back nine was not available due to the greens being punched. The front nine was extremely slow play as everyone was playing the front nine twice.
Poor condition
Played here for the first time this year. Horrible condition. Brown everywhere, fairways hard as a rock. Greens in poor shape. Will not return or recommend to others, even at $40 w/cart.
Improving
This course has been improving a little every season but still has a way to go before it can compete head on with most of the courses in the area. The greens are in the best shape I have seen but many of the fairways and tee boxes are in need of attention. The back nine is the better of the two nines. It is a challenging track that has never quite reached its potential. Even with a GolfNow deal there is better value for money elsewhere in the area. I do applaud the new ownership for their continued work on the course.
Edmonton Springs
It was quite busy with people who don't know rate of play. The beer was also very warm. Friendly and good looking staff.
Huge Improvements this year
I've been playing Edmonton Springs since it was 9 holes but have gone away from playing it regularly the past years as it was always poorly maintained. I loved the layout but hated the conditions.
Not so this year.
Ponds and creeks have been trimmed. Tee boxes are still small and uneven but are fuller and cut short. Fairways were cut low and green for the first time in years - #1,2 and 3 are still patchy but the rest are very, very good.. The rough is lower and looks awesome with the stripe pattern they're using. As for the greens - I have never seen them this good. They are consistent and lush but fairly quick too.
It's obvious somebody is finally giving the course the attention it deserves. In my mind, #15 is one of the best par 5s in all of Edmonton. For the past couple years, you could barely see the green it had become so grown in, the tees were dead and the fairway was like pavement. It's a beauty again.
Pace of play was a little slow but I played on a discount day.
They also paved the parking lot. It's rough but it is paved.
If I could suggest one change, it would be to switch the nines. The first three holes are the only bad fairways and those holes are far too difficult for the average/beginner golfer. People would come away with a much better feeling about the place if those holes were in the middle of their round rather than the start. It would help the pace of play, too.
Anyways, I've always wanted this course to succeed, it really is a good design. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the improvements continue.
I'll be playing the Springs on a regular basis again.
great value
Played from the blues and found some of the fairway views narrow, many of the fairways were brown, lots of water, first time playing this course. Close to the city. Now I know where the hidden water is I would definitely play it again. Not a beginners course.
Golfer's Course
Tough track with plenty of water and trees. I'm play here 5 or 6 times a year off the back tees and course, especially the greens, is in much better shape than previous years. Some of the tee boxes could do with some work to flatten them out, but they are ok. Clubhouse is a little basic. If you are a better and bogey golfer that doesn't want to pay $70 to $100+ for a challenging (good) course, then this is course is for you.
Slow Slow Slow
We made the mistake of playing on a Sunday and booked through golfnow. They didn't have Internet access so they had no idea who was and wasn't booked. We had to wait 15 minutes for a cart to be returned so we could start. The front nine took 3 hours. The tee boxes were in horrible shape and it was hard to find a flat one where you weren't standing in a sod crack. There was no Marshall to move things along and there was a golf cart sitting in one of the ponds. This course has really gone downhill while the prices have gone up. We will not be going back.
nice design
Good layout. Some holes very picturesque.Greens mostly are very good. Some poor fairways.Numerous second shots over water even an island green.Happy to pay discounted price. Will return after some rain.
great value
some tight driving holes & knowing your yardages is important on some holes as well, pace of play was a little slow but for the value from GolfNow, I played 18 & got a cart for the price of a couple large range buckets, great place to work on your game.
This course good for beginers
The course is good for beginers. Needs maintenance. Lots of weeds and not properly cared for greens.
