Great course and value for money
First time player at this course. The grounds are extremely well maintained and the course was in a great condition. I look forward to many more rounds at this course.
Good local course
It's only my 3rd season of playing golf and still learning the game. I booked this course because it's not too far out from Toronto and there was a great deal on Golfnow. I underestimated the course because it's par 69 but it was tougher than I thought as my shots kept landing into bunkers or water hazards. Overall it was good day with good weather. Enjoyable course.
Great value but challenging
For early May I was very impressed with the course conditions however with a name like Highland Gate I was expecting this to be an open highlands style course which it certainly is not. There is really no room for error on this course as any hook or pull will end you up in someone's backyard...literally. While it wasn't the smartest way for a novice golfer such as myself to open up the season it was a great course (a little shorter than expected at Par 69) in excellent shape and at great value - $65 per with cart. Definitely would recommend this course to fellow GTA golfers.
Nice course amongst residential setting
The course is in really good shape for only being open 1 week - fairways were very green and in great shape. Greens were also very good and several are protected by creeks forcing a well placed shot. Most holes are fairly tight with houses on both sides of the fairway
Pretty and Tight
Two of us play on a cool autumn day. 9:30 Tee and the temperature is about 6c. No body out here. Our fee includes electric carts, but we decided to walk to keep our bodies warm. The course is great to walk, Hardly any hills. Aside from a few wet spots, the course is in very good condition. The greens are still fast and relatively smooth. The course is nicely designed, houses on both side of the fairways so you have to keep the ball fairly straight or you have house problems. Lucky we kept our balls pretty straight today and did not came close to any of the houses. It took us about 4 hours to finish, we could have done it faster, but we shot a few extra ball since there were no one in front or after us, so can't comment on pace of play if is busier. Overall, the course is well worth playing especially at Fall Rate or specials.
Short and tight.
Had not played this course in at least 10 years and it brought back some fond memories. Checked in to a friendly young man, went across to a very nice starter, who briefed us on some policies and rules. Off we went. The greens were never so nice. The course was a little wet as we had a nice bit of rain as of late. If you are spraying your tee shots its big trouble. Otherwise you can score here. We followed 2 twosomes. Moved quite well. Enjoyed the course and would return. Especially at Golf Nows great discounted special rates.
Nicely nestled into an urban setting.
Enjoyed playing this course very much. A little wet in spots and a couple of hazards that require an iron off the tee which limits the use of one's driver- for some this may be a negative. Otherwise a fun course with good variety.
Decent course overall but very unforgiving for those who spray their shots!
I gave this a 4 but should really be a 3.75 (2.5 representing an "average" course) since there's really nothing to rave about with this course, other than the houses that come into play on many of the holes or the fact that some fairways are quite narrow, in addition to the course conditions being fair but not "pristine" that you would find at say, other ClubLink top tiered courses. But other than that, it's not horrible as I've played on far worse courses, hence the fair rating (of a 4/5) that I gave it. Definitely much better than courses like Tam O' Shanter, Bloomington Downs, Deer Creek's South course, and the like.
course is tight
you better bring your A game
forced carries, blind shots, tricky greens ( not overly fast)
tricky layout
After looking at the score card we chose to play the blues since it was only 5774 yards. It turned out to be quite deceiving. The course is a par 69, which adjusts to around 6300 yards if it were a par 72. There were quite a few very tight tee shots. Some required drawing the ball, some required fading. The par 4's were short, but required accurate shots. The par 3's were very long, the shortest was 155 yards, but the rest were from 174 to 206. This course turned out to be a real test of your game. I had played it before, but it was a long time ago, and it did not seem to be as difficult then. I would play it again, but I would try the white tees.
Tight fairways - blind tee shots
If you play here for the first time, pay attention to the scorecard - especially the course layout drawing - You need to know where to go on some holes as hazards are not always visible from the tees.
If the pro shop had a course book with tips, that would make this course more enjoyable.
This course was quite challenging.
We had a great time. The course was in excellent shape and not overly busy. Although not exceptionally long, the course requires accuracy with narrow but well groomed fairways and well placed bunkers and ponds. We found the course a little gem right in the middle of the town of Aurora. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience.
This course is a short but challenging.
I have played this course a few times and completed most rounds in four hours. It can be tight on a few holes but forgiving on others. I will play there again.
A few nice holes , but mostly a bit uh...uninspiring
I had not played here for a few years. Pace of play was good, but freshly aerated greens, and at least 6 spots that appeared to be irrigation system leaks in fairways...not repaired nor in progress of repair ? Signs say do not hit driver off the tee on 2 of the first 4 par 4's...due to houses so close to the edges, it's hazardous if the average player slices or hooks too much. Was not an inviting way to start a round. Some nice holes , but overall I can not recommend playing here on anything other than a hot deal price, and if it's close to home it is a quick round.
An interesting shorter course
Overall a nice course with many narrow fairways that require straight and accurate tee shots. The course seems to be well kept and was in good shape.
Beautiful setting
Great place for a relaxing game of golf. Fantastic staff and service.
Short but tight
Fun little course. Any reasonably experiencd golfer needs to play off the blues as it's pretty short. What it lacks in length it makes up for with a lot of narrow fairways that demand precision. Lot of houses around - it's in the middle of a subdivision. But amazing that there's a course in the middle of town at all. Paid abt $50 on golfnow and wouldn't be happy paying much more for this course.
This course has a lot of character
You have to know where you are going because there isn't any signs or yard sticks.
Every hole was a surprise for walkers.
This is a nice old parkland course with tree lined fairways and greens. Lovely old mature trees separating the course from the residential areas. Not very friendly for walkers because the holes are not marked and there are few fairway markers to guide play. Overall good value and will likely play again.
narrow fairways and flat greens
it is hard to find the next hole because there is no sign to indicate them.
greens are good but the fairways are difficult to us.
