Absolutely beautiful course with gorgeous huge trees and Onion Creek bordering most holes. Challenging but fair!
I love this course! What great imagination the architect had. Even though many house border holes most of the time they are backed away from the fairway and you feel you are in a natural setting. Several elevated tee boxes with unbelievable views of the hole occur during your round. The only downside is the check in at the pro shop. The person in charge never smiled, and he seemed like he would much rather be somewhere else.
Private & Difficult
I will alway remember this course as it gave me my first birdie. It wasn't easy either. Great course and super fast greens. If you can get it on line it will sink, if not it could be gone. Enjoy the history of the course while you enjoy the scenery. Difficult, but worth the play!
Older course with a good layout
This is a decent course which at times requires some well placed shots in order to avoid the dangers (creek, trees, ponds, bunkers, etc). And there are a couple of holes with some up/down elevation that'll help mix it up a little. All total, there are 27 holes which allow the pro shop to change it up from day to day in order to (in theory# tend to the nine that get a day off.
Chalk a good bit of the conditions up to the ongoing drought, but perhaps the greens keepers could stand to work a little harder on the fairways and greens. There were quite a large number of dried out and/or burned up areas on the course this week #late August#. However, many other courses in the area do not seem to be having quite this much trouble. As for the bunkers, well, they're about average; a bit on the hard/compact side. For a membership funded country club, I just expected better conditions all around. It'd also be nice if they'd add at least one #1) more water cooler on each nine holes. It's hot for far too long here in Austin -- we need to stay hydrated.
Maybe I can get back in the spring when the fairways and greens should be in better shape.
Great Staff, Challenging Course
The staff were friendly and helpful, The course due to recent heat needed a little water. Overall a great experience . Thank you Onion Creek ..
Great course to play. Would recommend it.
Moderate level of challenge. The course is well maintained and fun to play.
Play somewhere else
They are just try to get extra money from the Golf-now players. They really only want members playing.
Great classic style course that will challenge your golf skills.
This course offers everything you look for in a challenging round of golf.
Great course for the price
This was my first time playing this course so I decided to pay the extra as opposed to paying to play at my $40.00 reg. course. The course had good reviews so we decided to try it out on Sat mid afternoon. This place is a great place for any golfer but if you are more of a rookie then you will find it a bit challenging as some of the greens are fairly narrow. There are free range balls so if you get there early and want to warm up there are plenty of range balls to practice at no additional charge. The Tee boxes were large and in pristine condition. Most of the greens were perfect and very fast. Overall it was a great experience and I can't wait to get back out there.
Onion Creek
Good deal with GN discount. It would be underwhelming at full price. Bunkers need sand. Several fairways are dry and brown. Greens recently punched (on 7/8)
Normally, my favorite course in the ATX area.
Yesterday (July 9) I played a round at Onion with my favorite golf buddy. Normally, we absolutely love this course. Unfortunately, without notification, every green was punched and sanded. I understand this is merely an issue of maintenance. But the fact that the conditions were not made apparent.
The course should be SHUT DOWN whilst under such serious maintenance. Completely ruined the round.
The course was in amazing condition even with the drought conditions.
Facilities were labeled and convenient. Play was monitored, but not urgent in nature. Course was set up for an enjoyable outing. Sand traps were 'low' on sand , but did not damper the round of play. Good challenging course.
Great Course Great Price
Onion Creek Original Course... The fairways and tee boxes were in perfect shape. The greens were in good shape but a touch grainy. Even so they were extremely responsive and rolled true. I would highly recommend this course at this price.
Great track for the $!! Bunkers need some help.
Fun Course for the $.
Perfect greens & fairways.
Bunkers need to be re-worked.
Tour course?
I've played this course many times in the past. After playing it this weekend I wonder what happened? The majority of the course was hard and dry. Most of the greens were in good shape but on the other hand most of the tee boxes you couldn't get a tee into. The pond on the par three #11 smelled like a pile of dead fish rotting in the sun. Just awful! Tee times on Onion Creek used to be few and far between for non-members. I now see why there are a few more these days. Would I recommend the course for the $50 to $70 green fee they ask for? Absolutely not! At least not in it's current condition.
great course
this was my first time at onion creek. really enjoyed it. it's a little old fashioned in that the holes are very tight and close together and pretty short, but none of that takes away from what a great course it is. there are plenty of tee selections to challenge any skill level. the holes (especially the back 9) demand the ability to shape shots. the greens are possibly the best i've played on in austin.
overall, i was blown away. enjoyed the course a lot, and it was not overly crowded. couldn't ask for anything more.
if you haven't been, it's worth your time and money.
Beautiful Course
This is an excellent course. Has beautiful landscaping, and is a challenging golf course that put your skills to test. The trees that have been growing around it are a delight to your eyes. It is a short course but have to keep your ball on fairway. Definitely recommended 100%
Aging country club
This is an old country club that appears to be struggling a bit. Quite pretentious and they would not honor their military discount on Memorial Day weekend. No starter or marshals so you have to fend for yourself getting going. We asked and were told to wait for a 3 some to go before us. This group never appeared and after waiting half an hour we just went. The course is very poorly marked, virtually no signs, and is difficult to navigate. The staff seemed more concerned about people having shirts tucked in than a quality golf experience. Bring your own drinks, the cart is rarely around and the snack bar is closed while the cart is running. We saw the cart twice in 18 holes and the snack bar was closed at the turn. Very nice corse but not worth the money.
Don't expect other golfers to be cordial.
I played a twosome on Sunday, May 19. After a confusing discussion concerning the tee time, we were able to get started. The staff memeber (Milo) seemed passive at first. After he became aware of the issues that we had with other golfers (club members), he did everything he could to make it right. I will say that Milo did a great job, but I could tell that his hands were tied in dealing with paying club members.
Being that I was not a member of the club, the other players were obviously rude and not willing to allow a walking foursome to let a twosome on a cart play thru.
The staff was great, but the members...way too arrogant.
And too all the members out there...if you don't like guests in your club, don't allow any. It's that simple.
Decent course for the price I paid on Golf Now
I played during the transition period from winter to spring. Fairways are generous and the greens were showing signs of spring growth. All in all a nice facility.
Play Onion Creek
Great deal on a Great course. Fairways re easy to hit from. Greens are fast but true. Bunkers could use some sand not fluffed up dirt. Looking forward to going back again.
