Blackstone Golf Course

About
The player-friendly Blackstone Golf Course boasts a reputation of being an excellent course for families. The gently undulating landscape is approachable to beginners while still providing a fair amount of challenge. The rolling terrain requires accuracy but most holes allow for short irons if you're willing to risk hitting your ball into the treetops. There is a stream that meanders through the golf course, coming into play on a number of holes. It also crosses through Blackstone's driving range. Strategically placed bunkers are also scattered throughout. The greens are in excellent condition, providing great putting surfaces. Blackstone Golf Course has garnered a local following because of its playability, which is helped by three sets of tees, and extremely reasonable rates. It's an excellent location for a casual round.

Great Staff; Course Needs.A Lot Of Love
Greens we were in average shape because of the tough winter. The fairways were mostly dirt and sand.
What happened?
We played this course a few months ago and couldn't believe how well kept it was.. we couldn't wait to get back. The greens were super smooth, like putting on green felt and the fairways and tee boxes were ok. Today, we found the greens burnt, bare in some spots and weedy. Some of the ladies tee boxes were so overgrown, it was hard to find a spot where grass wouldn't swallow up your ball that was teed up! We are members at Ft Walton, but since they're redoing a bunch of greens there, we figured we'd go back to Blackstone .... bad idea...I think we'll take our chances at Ft Walton...at least we know ahead of time it's not going to be great.
Best course in this area
You will not find a better course in this area, great layout and fairways are the best around. Rocky Bayou a close second but Windswept is my favorite
Rough conditions
Can’t say I’d recommend this course. It’s in terrible condition. What’s left of the fairways are rock solid, and the greens are in tough shape.
Horrible course
It appears they haven't even tried to mow or trim the very little grass they have.
Tee boxes are a mess.
Greens are horrible with ankle deep grass around the green.
Fairways are non-existant. It's dirt/sand and when there is grass it's awful. Middle of the fair way had shin high weeds at times.
No beverage cart.
I would not recommend
Play, Spray, Stray
First the good. The carts seemed to be new electrics and included GPS, but the constant screen ads were annoying. The clubhouse was nice looking like it had recently been renovated or given a fresh coat of paint. And the lunch sandwiches were huge and delicious, but don't expect an afternoon snack because the kitchen closes at 2.
Now the bad. Unless your drive consistently finds the fairways you're bound to venture into the woods (whether you spray right or left) and most likely will find other stray balls along with yours. And it's hard to call them "Fair' ways when you're hitting approach shots from hard ground devoid of any grass. The greens had us baffled 90% of the time because there was no consistency in the speed.
I will admit to some vista-like views from a several hilltop tees. But use caution on holes 5, 8, 17 and 18 where your shots "must carry" (cross or go lost) fairway-wide and deep gulches full of briars and undergrowth.
My advice to seniors - swallow your egos and play from the blacks or reds, not the whites. You'll thank me for it. Two of us played the whites while my wife played the reds with none of us breaking 100.
And after an hour-long drive from Panama City Beach it's hard to justify recommending Blackstone to friends, even for the GolfNow value.
Playing Hills
Overall the course is good. Once the 3 fairways that are rutted get fixed it will be the best value golf in NW Florida.
Course Plays Great
Course condition is in recovery stages. The greens had some other growth but they were still fast and true. The fairways were pretty much washed out and will require lots of work. But all-in-all, my partner and I played a great round! And yes, I would recommend Blackstone!
Greens are in good shape some of the fairways are in ruff shape in need of irrigation but appears they are working on it, overall a nice coarse.
Spectacular Views but Winter Conditions
Blackstone has some of the most spectacular golf holes with elevated tees and greens. It’s a nature walk with trees everywhere and a sense of beauty that is so wonderful. Unfortunately we played mid march and the fairways were pitiful. The pro shop warned us that the winter weather was not kind to the course. Clubhouse and restaurant is very good
Play here when the grass grows and you will not be disappointed. A warning though that this course is not for beginners. You can lose tons of balls here
Greens are very good
Love the greens on this course. Some of the fairways are in terrible condition. Washouts, ridges, no grass. Some fairways are OK, but some are train wrecks.
I think this review was meant to be for Windswept. Blackstone is definitely not the best course in the area.
