High Expectations

Heard lots of good things about this course so my expectations were really high. When that is the case I always seem to come across little things that bring the experience down. The staff outside was scattered and not readily available when we first came up. The staff inside the clubhouse was friendly and helpful. The carts were clean and ready (2 to a cart). The starting marshal was helpful and friendly. The practice range was small-totally worn out-therefor it was mat only practice which for me probably does worse for me than not warming up at all. The putting and chipping areas were maintained well and serviceable. The course was in fair shape. Tee boxes were worn out several were closed. A few holes had only one tee area where everyone shot from same spot. Fairways were in good shape But had muddy spots around greens from overwatering. Greens were somewhat slow but in ok shape. Repairs going on to the Creek. Make sure to bring some bug spray! Challenging course, tee times too close together. Long wait on every hole-no Marshall to speed things up. Worst part of the course was after finishing having to park at the bottom and then having to carry your clubs up a narrow staircase to the parking lot. Who came up with that plan? Overall i would like play again when its not so hot and crowded and when they have made the repairs that are needed. Shout out to the cart girl that came around often.

bumpy greens - Great staff. Nice and fast cart.

Play here again after a long while, and first week it opens after Covid19 shutdown.
Looks like green punched a week earlier, bumpy greens, but still playable, barely.
Would not have played here today, if known about the green.
Some friends played a few days later, had the same complaints about the greens. Should have told guests or lower green fee.
Great staff. Nice and fast cart.
Will come back in 2-4 weeks

Texas Star

The course is in fantastic winter shape. Texas Star is a superior course in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex! The layout allows multiple ways to approach a lot of the holes. I could not get over the immaculate shape of the greens! It is almost hard to believe that this is a public course. Always a great round at Texas Star!

Always a challenge

Course is in pretty good shape. Has some "funky" holes, particularly on the back 9 and course is in some ways easier from the longer tees. Tests all your shots and you need to plan your way around the course, you can't just hit it and go find it. Greens very fast but fair. Last 2 holes can be a beat down when weather is hot. They have improved the on course amenities significantly in terms of ordering food. Great restaurant after the round.

#2 in the area according to me!

A buddy of mine flew in from the Northeast to play 4 days’ (fri (18), sat (36), sun (36), mon (18)) worth of golf. We played Cowboys (x2), Texas Star, Coyote Ridge (x2), and Tierra Verde. I will compare them with a few different reviews, but to short and sweet, they are all ridiculous courses and even in March had great conditions, you can’t go wrong with any.
Texas star was our last round on Sunday (round #5) and it had a lot to live up to but did not disappoint.
First the clubhouse was great, and people mobbed the grill and were not even playing golf, that’s how good the food is. The practice area is top notch and might be one of the best in area. Multiple elevations and locations to hit shots, a huge and accurate putting green and a mammoth chipping area and all this complete with free balls.
The course conditions were really good and in about a month will be almost unmatchable. The greens even now in March were rolling true to about a 13. Lighting for this time of year, I can’t imagine In May.
This course is hard…. ill say that again…this course is hard…. definitely the hardest course of the ones mentioned above. I hope you play with someone that has played there before when you try it.
The staff was great. The carts were cushy, and the hospitality was on point. We will be back in about a month to play this as a staple of my 4-some Dallas takeover.

Those 4 are great courses for golf weekend. add Fossil Creek in your next one for another fun, challenging and well maintained course. ( No, I do not work for Fossil Creek)

Atrocious Course Conditions

Staff was extremely friendly and the restaurant on-site was solid, but I haven't seen a course in this bad of shape in my entire life. Several tee boxes actually don't have grass on them -- just sand/dirt. Trying to hit any type of a chip or wedge shot from inside 60 yards is quite the adventure too as you're basically required to pick the ball clean out of a lie you'd expect to find in a hazard. No grass at all, just brown. Super disappointing overall.

Course No Longer Accepts Golf Now Tee Times

Got to the course and was informed they no longer accept Golf Now tee times but fit us in on a busy tournament day. One of my favorite courses to play and I was impressed with the fact they honored our on line rate and worked to fit us in. Was still charged by Golf Now for the booking fee.

Go play this course

First time playing this course and wow I think I have found a new favorite! Such a wonderfully crafted layout. The first thing that stands out in my mind is the variety of holes offered at this course. There are several holes with strategic elevation changes and others with creeks, etc coming into play. Favorite hole is hole no. 15 and the risk/reward that comes into play. The greens are quick and roll very true. An absolute must play for any golfer in the DFW area. I will definitely be back soon.

Absolutely Beautiful And Something For Everyone

First time to play this course and I must say the staff, amenities and course were phenomenal. The smells get a bit weird now and then being right next to a landfill, but for the most part the bugs weren’t bad at all. Greens are in pristine shape for the end of August. Top 5 must play course in DFW.

Wow, so Green!

Even after a drought, course in great shape, no burn marks or dead grass patches, greens in great shape, landscaping very nice. Great design with a couple tricked up holes, nothing too over the top. Love all the blind tee shots and rolling contour. I will return!

Best Course in the Mid-Cities

I am a member at Texas Star, so my review may be a bit biased, but it is the best golf course I have played in the Mid-Cities area. The fairways are in great shape, and the greens are soft and beautifully green. The golf carts have pretty accurate GPS in them, and the practice range is a real treat. A separate chipping area with a huge bunker and 3 or 4 holes to chip to, a very challenging putting green and a 3 tier driving range.

My only gripe about Texas Star is that some rounds can get over 5 hours, but when there are so many people out on the course enjoying themselves, its hard to be mad at the course.
