GlenRiddle Golf Club - Man O' War Course
About
GlenRiddle Golf Club is home to two championship courses that offer completely distinct golfing experiences. The Man O' War Course is situated on the western portion of the club, sweeping across a sand dune-covered landscape that is perfect for a round of Scottish links-style golf. The large greens, double fairways, and deep pot bunkers will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The ever-present winds blowing in from the eastern shore further adds to its authenticity. On the site of the golf course there is an old racetrack that was used to train champion thoroughbreds, part of the track is now used as a strategic cross-hazard that comes into play on three holes. The golf course begins gently with a front nine that is wide-open but becomes progressively more challenging, primarily with the presence of water hazards.

Links look
Loved the links feel and look of the course and how it played and being a windy day made it even better. Liked that when you stood on the tee you saw the holes. Nothing hidden, nothing quirky.
Ruark Ruins Another
I played this course a bunch back in 07', 08', 09, and then a few times in 2012-2015. Had not played there in quite a while, but joined a member (which is the reason for the lower cost) and could not have been more disappointed. The greens were horrible, weeds on the tee boxes, driving range looked like you were in the middle of the woods w the lies, and the overall experience was just not good. Ruark Golf had some of the best courses in OCMD, and he (the company) continues to ruin the tracks. The other course (War Admiral) is supposedly in much better shape, but I was looking forward to Man O' War since it is a links style course. It was really poor. Will never play there again. I can't imagine your thought if you paid $100 - $125 to play there.
Aces!
This course was everything you could ask for in a course. Fun, challenging and fantastic conditions. I couldn’t find one negative to write about. Overall A+++
Very Playable
Loved the links style course. It was very playable and fun. Challenging and a very pretty course. Would definite recommend for others to play and I would ply this again.
Beautiful course but was a 5 half hour round..Good course for the wife red tees very favorable
What a shock
I played this in an outing today and have played it more than a dozen times over the past 5 years, and have to say this course has significantly deteriorated. The back 9 had greens that didn't appear to have been cut in a few days. Many of the traps were unracked and compacted with past rain. dead spots were everywhere greens, fairways and tees).
I don't know what happened, but can say this is a pattern I have seen here over the past 1-2 years. It would be a shame to see this terrific design go to waste. When it was in good condition it is a joy to play. Tough but fair. Today it looked like River Run, a nearby Player course that has gone below muni!
I gave it a low rating for value because whatever we paid to play in the outing was too much given the conditions. They need to save the Ruth's Chris coupon and put the money into the course. Until I know these conditions have been fixed I will not play there again.
Nice course for the price paid
The staff was very up front that they just aerated the greens and offered a discounted price to play it. I'd say 3 greens out of the 18 greens were not in good shape but I was told that to start. It's a fun course with mounds, pot bunkers and uneven fairways and only 15 minutes from the beach so it's great to play in morning and be on the beach or pool by lunch. Barely a tree comes into play since it plays links style less the high fescue grass that eats up your new golf balls.
Overall a fun course that is hard to lose a golf ball on. There are a few forced carries but not enough to be that difficult.
Nice course but it needs a little work
Nice layout and the property has cool history. I don’t know what the deal is with their bunkers, but about a third of them have clay dirt in the instead of sand. On the 2n, a par 3, the front pot bunker was filled with this dirt but the left bunker had more traditional white sand. I was in a few of these bunkers and didn’t need like them at all, but my real grips is the 2 types of sand across the course. I’ve never seen that before & hope they are in the middle of a renovation. It was almost impossible to play any type of greenside bunker shot out of the clay dirt bunkers. In addition, several of the tee boxes were packed so firm that we couldn’t get a tee in the ground. It visually resembles a links course with mounding and tall grasses. GPS on the carts, unlimited range balls, decent rates, and a friendly staff are plusses. The grille/restaurant on site is a Ruth’s Chris steakhouse, which is a little pricey, IMO. Not sure I’d come back with all the choices available on the MD/DE shore.
Good Course
I played on a Friday in early November with the weather being close to 80 degrees. The course was pretty busy but it wasn't slow moving out there and the course itself was in pretty good condition. It was a little expensive but that is for all OC courses. Good time
Best Value in OC
This is a must play course in Ocean City, the amount of work and money that has been pumped into this place is incredible. Adding wood accents to bunkers, changing the look of holes from year to year and the course is always top notch. A great overall mix of links and parkland styled course, difficult but fair holes and they best fairways in Ocean City. Every green was true, tee boxes were great because of multiple tee grounds on holes. Don't pass this place by, for under 80 dollars it's a steal! And the staff is always willing to help... if you want a drink or food before or during the round grab it before 1 or after 9 they have a huge halfway house... go to Man O War at Glen Riddle it's worth it!
Course Rangers Annoying, Where is the beverage cart?
Club House and amenities are top notch. As soon as your on the course the rangers are very irritating. On 3 holes the rangers were in the middle of the fairway when we were on the tee box. One hole I decided to hit anyways cause he wouldn't move and I had to yell fore. When we drove up to him he was able to tell us where each ball went except the one I hit. I must of hit it beyond him and into tall grass. Beverage cart didn't show up till the 7th hole and then didn't see her until the 15th hole. Ranger was upset we stopped at the turn because of how busy the course was, we stated that we wouldn't need to stop if the beverage cart would make it around more often.
As for the course it was great.
Outstanding British Isles-style links
I played a round of golf on an old links course in Ireland a few years ago, and this course reminded me of that one a lot. Wide open contoured fairways mean you can get lots of roll on your drive and shouldn't lose many balls, but it also means you'll have some funky stances down in swales or up on mounds, with tricky little pot bunkers in places you wouldn't expect. The course is in perfect shape, the staff are friendly, and for a Saturday morning we got around in good time, never waiting on a group ahead. Of the four courses I played in Ocean City, this was my favorite.
Best fun I ever had in a Monsoon!
First time there for a buddies trip in May 2017. The course was GREAT. the weather... Not so much. But even in extreme rainy conditions the course was great, staff was friendly and the amenities were good. This is a challenging course made more so with the weather conditions. It is a very pretty course with a lot of challenges. I want to come back and play it again in the SUN!!!
What is happening?
This Course is in decline. The standard "we've had a hard winter" doesn't apply to potholes in the cart paths
and many traps completely devoid of sand. What is the plan to return this course to it's former condition? (for a how to, see Royal Manchester Links in York, Pa for how to keep the public informed!) The lack of attention to condition suggests this course is headed for building lots. I hope this isn't the case.
Bad playing condition
The golf course was in bad condition. The Starter said the rough was bad. When we played not only was the rough burnt but the fairways were in terrible condition. The driving range was not up to pat.
Not worth the money. There are plenty of other golf courses to play in the area
I highly recommend GlenRiddle!
The staff was great, the course was challenging, the weather was pleasant and the overall experience was amazing!
Nice course but expected a bit more
For a course of this stature (rates, facilities, etc.), I found the bunkers to be in very poor condition. It felt like I was hitting out of dirt and hardpan. It looked like the course was going through some type of renovation/remodeling but that was never mentioned to me. Overall I enjoyed the layout and would probably play here again if it was within some type golf package, but I would not pay full price.
Man of war in AWFUL condition
Just played a round here, and the course is in awful condition. The fairways and rough are lost. They said had a bad winter, this course was in worse shape then most muni courses. For the money they charge too. Play anywhere else, rums pointe, light house, bayside all course in great condition and worth the money
Boonton
Wonderful course greens were great had good time playing.
