Great 27 Hole Course!
Stonecrest has three great nine hole courses and 5 teeing options that suite every level of play. The greens are large and roll very well. The North and East courses are challenging enough for experienced golfers but yet with different teeing options fair enough for novice players as well. The West course is the most forgiving and the easiest to walk. Great rates and I recommend this course to everyone! Friendly staff. You won’t be disappointed.
Good times!
I have played golf in Florida and Texas and Stone Crest beats them all hands down in beauty and playability.
Stone Crest
Fairway grass was really bad on this course.
I never seen the beer cart for the entire 18 holes while I played
Great place to play
This is a great value for a very well maintained course.
Friendly staff also.
Poor fairways
I wanted to try a new course and found this one on golf now. I live an hr. and 45 min away and was looking forward to playing. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is 3, 9 hole course. I played the west and north courses. The fairways were in need of a lot of work. The greens were excellent. I paid $40 which I think is to high for the condition the course is in. I will probably never go back.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give Stone Crest Golf Community - North Nine another try in the near future.
Beautiful and well maintained course
A hidden treasure! The course layout is challenging for someone new, well maintained greens and fairways. Enjoyed the day!
Great course, fast play,
Course was in very good condition with the exception of a few fairways nearing reseeding.
Fore
I really enjoy this course and the layout which is 3 different 9 hole courses and each one has its challenges for all levels of golfers...you won’t regret it
Good day of golf
Greens were in great shape and fairly fast. Not too crowded on Labor Day. Rough was pretty thick and you basically had to drive over your ball to find it. All the water hazard are drained for some reason - kind of weird
Great local course
Great course. Friendly staff and very accommodating to walkons
Excellent Value
Thanks to GolfNow, we got a great rate. Stone Crest is a great course and, depending on what 9 you choose, is as difficult, or as easy as you want it to be. Three 9's to choose from.
Great first experience
I played Stone Crest for the first time (West-East combo) and loved it! As a relatively high-handicapper the water and bunkers provided a challenge without being overly difficult. Some parts of the course were a little dry, but overall it was in great shape. Best of all, I was able to get a Hot Deal on Golfnow and play 18 with a cart for $10. You can't beat that price for the quality of golf you can play here.
How can these people charge money for a course like this?
I have played 10 different courses this year and this by far is the worse course I have played. I don't think anyone has a clue how a course is supposed to look. What chemicals are supposed to be used, or if they even care. The rough was thick and long, the fairways were brown, with crab grass and long. Someone mowed the fairways with half the mowing blades low and the other high, so it looks and played terrible. I mean, it was aweful. What are they doing there? I can't begin to tell you how terrible it was. I am about to call them and ask them what is going on? This place used to be a nice course. The rough has always played long and thick so I expected it but the greens and tees and fairways were horrible. They are ruining a good course because there is no effort being put forth or lack of knowledge about how to use chemicals.
Bugs and Power Lines
Played the West-East courses. Each of them had potential but had major flaws.
First, it was very buggy all over the course. Bring a lot of bug guard if you find yourself there - I had to re-apply twice.
Second, the condition left a lot to be desired. The course doesn't really have a fairway, more like light rough and thick rough. The thick rough was very lush and would grab a club. The light rough is more like a backyard - very patchy and inconsistent. Tee boxes were full of dandelion stems that were not mowed either. Greens were rock hard, grainy, and slow. Most of them were also very patchy from ball marks that were not fixed or signs of disease in the grass. Not good for this time of the season.
But why I really knocked this course down to 2-star was the quirks of the course. This was clearly supposed to be some kind of housing development with a golf course, and there are some houses on/around it, but in the dumbest spots. Some have nets guarding them because they are either right behind the green or stray too far into the line of fire on holes. You have to be on something to think it's a good idea to build on some of these spots, let alone buy one. But the West 9 is the major problem - power lines are in play on 3 holes. You tee off through them on 5, hit your approach through them coming back on 6, and then on 7 they run adjacent to the fairway on the right side the entire length of the hole. The pole was maybe 20 yards from the flag on 6. This is again a very stupid design flaw that disqualifies the course from being taken seriously in my opinion.
So when you add it all up, I know the area is a bit of a black hole for golf between Bloomington and French Lick, but there has to be something, anything better to spend your money on around there. I won't be back to try the other 9.
Stone crest golf course
My wife and I very much enjoyed this course and would recommend it to everyone
Enforce not fixing ball marks, not collared shirts
Pro shop staff threatened to make me leave if I didn't wear a collared shirt. I obliged. Once on the course I fixed at least 3 ball marks on every green plus my own. I think they need to change their policy to outlaw those who do not fix ball marks as opposed to those who wear nice, solid colored Columbia T-Shirts (that fix their marks). Seems like they value those who dress spiffy and disgrace the game more than those who dress reasonably and have great respect for the course and the game.
