My home course doesn't feel like home any more.
I live 3 miles from this course, it was the first I ever played, since it's re- opened certain of the staff has gotten crabby and short with others on the course around me, and even to me a few times, there are still a couple of nice gentlemen, who marshall the course. On my last visit, I booked a single tee time with a cart, for the normal set fee, of $33, at the clubhouse I was told I would have to pay $45 if I wanted a cart because my reservation did not include it. I've booked them through Golfnow and their own site many times and have never been told this, even with 1-4 players sharing carts, I understand splitting cart fees it even states it on my reservation, but it was my fault for not bringing it with me.
The course is in good shape for the most part. Food is decent, I'm just put off about the Marshall snapping at people the last 3 times I've played, even to elderly gentleman in front of me for pulling 2 feet past the staging area before the 1st tee. They were blocking my cart a little, I didn't mind, all they had to do is reverse. No big deal. Overall I have a sentimental attachment to this course, but thats about it. I'll keep playing here if I'm tight on time because it's close to home. But I wouldn't recommend driving more than 15-20 min. To play here.
I was impressed on how they maintain the golfcourse. Tee time price is a very good deal from Golfnoe.
Greens are some of the best in DFW?
All in all, a great course for the $. They need to keep the ball washers full of cleaning solution and some of the drainage needs reworking. The Snack Bar team members are very friendly and do a great job. The management team here does a very good job and the course overall, seems to be improving every year!
Mesquite Golf Course
With all the rain the course was really soggy. Greens were slow but in fantastic shape. Will want to go back when it dries out.
Mesquite
Course was not in very good condition after the weekend raiin. Muddy and some standing water. "Cart path only" added to the length of the round.
Better than most
We have a crew that plays at lease once a week all over the metroplex. Even though it has been around for a long time, Mesquite Golf Club was a pleasant surprise. Others in the area have been extremely dry, but the fairways were in good shape and the greens were excellent.
Great
Man, for February this course is in great condition.
Drainage problems everywhere
I do not recommend playing this course during the rainy season or designated Cart Path Only Days
Typical Mesquite Day
I was a a Typical Mesquite Day:
1. Course was wet from recent rains. It doesn't drain well. If it rains the day before don't play it, too much casual/standing water.
2. Greens are faster than most with lost of undulations. It's their signature and its a challenge to only putt 36 times in a round.
3. The layout is a bit funky. Weird doglegs, some odd layup situations. Its a target/shotmakers course, no room to spray it here.
4. The staff, Marshall etc. is what it is. They call it 'Real. Texas. Golf.' and if by that they mean being borderline unfriendly and hassling anyone playing over a 4 hour pace, then so be it. It's the #1 reason why I rarely play there.
5. They don't let you get your cart until 15 minutes before tee off, making the chipping green mostly useless since its a 100ish yard walk there...it's just inconvenient and not well set up.
Was on
Very slow pace and Marshall sitting there doing nothing but smoking.
Course was in winter conditions, some
Rough spots. Greens were ok… some spots. Rough needed a trim.
