worst greens in area. no motivation to improve them
both SP 1 and 2 are surrounded by numerous courses with excellent greens. 4 to5 ratings.
these courses are both 1 star at best. better chance of making a putt on a gravel road.
no interest in getting better because for now, operating at capacity. THAT WILL NOT LAST LONG.
i have not played since, but have visited regularly to confirm condition is getting WORSE.
Sherrill Park had been by course of choice to play for over 40 years.
bad experience
The absolute worst club house staff in the golf industry. They actually threaten you and chase you off the course when it gets near dusk. What kind of a professional business purposely chases their customers away?
Great track
I disagree with most of these reviews. I play Sherrill as one of the regular stops in our rotation. We play all the best public courses in the DFW area and this is in the top 10 for sure. For a municipal track, they take great care of it. The price is great, the course is always in good shape, and it's a reasonably demanding layout. I always enjoy my round at SP #1. Course #2 is too short for my game, but it's a ton of fun if you want to work on different clubs.
Slowest round in Dallas
Course is fun and challenging. Greens are burnt out and sandy right now. The main issue is the wait on a late Sunday afternoon. We got to the second hole and the tee box was three groups deep. It took us almost 3 hours to finish 9. We had to play front 9 twice to finish an 18 hole round. Our second front 9 only took 1:30mins. I called the pro shop at hole four and asked them to send a ranger out. They said they would but we never saw them and play never picked up. There are cheaper places to play that are not as busy. Avoid this course on the weekend unless you enjoy 5+ hour rounds of golf.
Don't bother if you're a visitor
Airline lost my clubs, so I had to rent at the proshop.
The staff (Beau specifically) were great! They helped fit me for shoes, etc. But for some reason things turned less pleasant when I mentioned the clubs they provided really weren't up to standards.
Specifically, the grips were old and slick, the set provided had 11 clubs, and the bag had holes in it, (and I actually lost some items before I realized it..) To make matters worse, the weather was threatening rain, and no umbrella or bag cover was provided. When I asked about an umbrella, I was informed I could buy one.
I spent $400 on replacement gear, but had to play with sticks I wouldn't give a child, let alone a single digit HDCP player. Easy course, (shot an 81, even with the weather and the horrid clubs). Also, not sure who the older 'pro' was, but when someone spends $400 in your shop, you might want to be a little nicer. If I ever play this course again, they won't get a dime more than green-fees.
Too New to Tell
Sherrill Park #1 has just recently reopened after 9 months or so of renovation. A lot of the renovation has been with cart paths and irrigation. The over-all layout of the course hasn't changed much at all. A couple of the greens have been reshaped and enlarged some. I really like the changes made to Par 4 #3. They have added a few bunkers and moved some, and eliminated a couple. The greens were in wonderful condition, as well as the fair-ways. The tee boxes are great; big, level, and green. It will feel like they have removed a bunch of trees, but it is really that they have cleaned up the existing ones. And, the little fake creek in the landing area of #18 has been removed and replaced with some plush fairway turf. I think you will like it. I did.
Do not golf here!
By far the most unsafe place there is to play! The staff is beyond rude & i have wittnessed fights on the golf course that they feel is not their problem so they dont get involved. They allow people back who have tried to start fights and hit woman and since they claim they werent there they let people continue to play. Its very unsafe and even family's with kids ive wittnessed leave becuase of the rude and inappropriate behavior there.
More than I was thinking
To be honest, this course was great, good pace, fairways and greens in very good condition, I will come back. Thanks
EMBARRASSING
This is possibly the worst golf course I have ever played in my life. The greens are Horrifying. They might as well put the pins in the fairways because they roll better than the greens. I counted the amount of bounces my ball bounced on the greens and I lost track of them at 243 after 9 holes. If you line up your out you might as well close your eyes because you can't expect it to go in. The course is way way way overpriced. The course is over priced by about 40 dollars. It should be for free cause the course is so bad!!!!!!
One of my favorite courses.
Great course for a muni. Fairways were excellent. Great value for the money. Multiple tees make it as challenging as you want.
Course condition
At the time/date of play, it has just been aerated and the greens were terrible! It even had Bermuda weeds . Other than that the course would have great.
greens ruined the place
I played here back in June and the greens on course one had obviously suffered over the winter. I went back yesterday expecting better but they were even worse. I can understand punched and sanded, but they were punched and sanded and in dire need of mowing due to the weeds on many of the greens. Some of the blades of grass on these weeds were a third of an inch or more ABOVE the surface of the green, which is pretty inexcusable.
Round at Sherrill Park #1
Decide at the last minute to play here....great choose...overall course was great...a few greens were a little spotty but nothing major...paired were a two-some and another single...good group to play with...will definitely go back soon
Loved the course
Golfnow.com is great, the money spent was
well worth the price. I wish we could have hit
the ball better, staff great, pace great, course in
great shape very happy, looking forward to playing the course again, thank you Sherrill Park, we will be back, DJ Rudy D.
Greens are bad
For the first 14-15 holes the greens were very shaggy or long you might say and there were spots all over each green were the dirt or sand was visible. it was impossible to line up a put because your ball was going to bounce on the way to the cup. On one hole we actually saw a sand splash when a players ball hit the green. I don't know what has caused the greens to go into such poor condition. It may be a disease in the grass or bad seeding but it is not worth your money.
The staff WAS friendly and kind. The water coolers were filled with cold water, (Thank God)and the carts were in good shape. I wont come back because of the greens but this shouldn't reflect on the staff.
Sherrill Park Course 1
The course was in terrible shape, the worst I have ever seen it. The greens were horrific , it seemed that the only thing they watered was the tee box.
This course has terrible greens
This was my first time playing this course because it was recommended by a friend, and it got very good reviews. After playing it unfortunately i would not recommend it to anybody and would probably not come back. The layout was nice but the greens were terrible. The greens are very slow and many burned spots and not suitable for putting.
Forget Your Putter
Greens on course #1 are suffering greatly Probably why my green fee with cart was only $10. It does look like the crew is working diligently to fix the greens. All in all, the poor greens didn't effect my score that much. Fairways and tee boxes were just fine.
