Decent course, better than I was expecting
Better than expected course, really nice greens and well maintained. Short walk from the car park, no apparent golf shop but thats fine. Will be returning
Avoid until we’ve had a heatwave!
The course should’ve been closed, the course was waterlogged in most places. The fairways weren’t cut, so it was like playing out of rough. Greens were pretty decent to be fair to the greenkeeper. Would probably be an enjoyable course in the summer months
Friendly challenge
Lovely course , quite a challenge even tho it’s not long, clever water and bunker hazards make you think. Can’t just go driver at it. Really friendly too definitely worth playing
First time at ciurse
Taking into account its February the course played okay. Tees are temporary winter boxes. Fairways a bit boggy(winter after all) greens a but unpredictable but very playable. First experience of the course would definitely play it again and would definitely recommend it. Even the local members are very helpful
Hidden Gem
I saw some reviews on this course and to say all the relentless winter weather we have had I played this course on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and the course did not disappoint, despite all the rain we’ve had the course was still in excellent condition, 18 full greens which were in superb condition, as expected it was wet in places but nothing too treacherous. Overall this is becoming one of my favourite courses to play, a lot of challenging holes and a lot of risk and reward. Highly recommended
A Hidden Gem they say on their website. It certainly is
With all the rain, and most of the usual courses I play at all shut or on temps and holes closed, I tried this place. Drax golf club. The members were very friendly and helpful. The course, given the bad weather recently was in good condition. Wet in places but where isn't these days ? Greens were in good condition in these winter months. It's clear they have spent money on the course and looked after it. Well signed, ball cleaners. Layout of 12 holes to do the remainder twice is on usual but holes have plenty of variety. Not an easy course, plenty to think about. Will come back again definitely.
2nd Visit- new layout
Re-visited thanks to a good offer from Golf Now. It was a lovely warm September afternoon. tee'd off after 1330 and the course was quiet- seems to have been a competition on in the morning.
No one to check in with- so took proof of my payment in case I was challenged. Tee'd off on time which was a bonus. 1st hole slight dog left leg. 2nd up the hill waiting for others to clear the potential landing area! 3rd down the hill into another field- with a water hazard on the left and a ditch or 3. Onto the 4th the reverse of 3 with the water on the left again- tough if you hit to the left- "new balls please". A par 3 on the fifth then into the original field/course, with another dog left to the right this time- they have filled the ditch area from whence I last played here just after lockdown, the ground a little sticky. Next hole another tricky dog leg- downhill and to the right, with a blind spot.
Then another Par 3 of some distance near the next tee area- so do not overhit lol!. next down the larger hill for a tricky hole with bunkers and the fact going downhill! Another hole has been moved further back and has out of bounds on the right for any wayward shots- followed by a water hazard.
However, after this you do tend to have a repeat of many holes since there are only around 12? Greens- as I stated earlier it was quiet thankfully so no sharing of tee's but can imagine some fun when the course is in full swing.
It is a nice course, scenic if you do not mind the power station and its cooling towers on the landscape. I didn't lose any balls here- so that may be good or I had a good round!
Lovely course
Excellent course with some interesting and challenging holes for someone at my level. Would consider joining if I lived nearer even had a steak at the clubhouse which was also great value for money.
Very poor condition
I was really dissappointed with the course. The quality of the temporary greens and tees was the worst I have ever encountered and in my opinion the club should not have been charging people to play.
Little Gem
Course is a really good challenge for a beginner and was in great knick. Staff very friendly and the pace of play was excellent
Drax Golf Club
Challenging course, spoilt by the metal fences around the first and ninth due to soil contamination.
Signage could be improved due to new layout, but putting green, chipping range good addition.
No golf facilities that are availabile at the Club, told to book in line. Walk from car park to first tee is long- no need to go into Club???
