A bit rough & ready but nice enough
Really enjoyed the layout of those course even though you play a few holes twice.
Fairways aren’t amazing & cut grass is still there, greens were really nice so as per the title…a bit rough & ready but I’ve played far worse. Ill definitely play there again at some point

The course is nice but wasn't impressed with a couple of holes waiting to see who's turn to go could be dangerous if both tee off same time
Could cause arguments as nearly did with Our 3 ball and another 2
Was sorted eventually
I don't know if it could be made better hopefully it can
Layout doesn't work
There is a 5 min walk aside a busy road between car park and course.
First few holes are pleasant, later there 6 holes that have shared tee boxes and greens which makes for congestion and confusion amongst players.
Greens were not good when I played but should improve.
Lots of waste ground adjoining course and rubble across the course which isn't a desirable feature!
Overall enjoyed the visit and may play again, reasonable VFM.
Friendly and Quirky
This is one of the friendliest courses we have ever visited, right from the guy in the car park clubhouse area, to the starter on the tee, to the green keepers .. all such nice helpful people. The course itself is quirky and interesting but has quite a few holes which you play twice which does cause some waiting. Having said that, they do block out tee times to alleviate some of that pain which is very sensible. There are some GUR areas which allow a free drop which could probably just be OOB as they make the holes concerned slightly easier. Overall a nice little course which is always a pleasure to play !
Disappointed
After seeing course overview, reviews and looking to play the course for quite a while, I was expecting better. The greens were patchy, seemingly under remedial work, quite a bit of poor ground, including piles of rubble, tractor marks, again as though possible course improvement underway.
Maybe this is because of the time of year and the enforced course closure, I don't know and, we may try it again later in the year.
Not quite ready
Greens had been sanded and not watered so putting was a problem, some rough edges on the course. I’ve played the course in 2020 and the greens were great so hopefully they will get them up to the same level! I don’t think lockdown helped the smaller courses like Drax.
Good to be out of lockdown
Played on the first day of not being in lockdown after nearly 4 months of doing nothing! It was a great sunny day for the 30 mile trip to Drax.
The first 6 holes were good and quite challenging with a good pace.
However, this is a 2 hole course with different tees for the remainder of the course. It was slightly confusing and as a consequence you find yourself on the fairway, potentially with other players. Most of the people playing were nice and friendly, Unfortunately i encountered my first golf course spat with a trio of players who i was some 6 holes in front of and they questioned me- did I have a tee off time? where did I suddenly appear from- when they caught me up - after being on the same fairway- not hard with a slow 4 ball in front of me! - I let them pass and carefully followed them behind- not an enjoyable encounter and hopefully my first and last ever!
The course was challenging, it is hilly in places- which was also my first time experiencing this- only played < 10 times .
With the bottle neck do not think I will be back- good luck with running the course and thanks for the game
Never again in winter
A decent course in summer but stay clear in winter, it doesn’t drain, its boggy and mulchy underfoot, when I had finished I looked like I’d been potato picking, mud everywhere. No golf club house, we paid to get on but there were people playing who had not due to no one at the course to check, we know this because we had 4 lads stood on the tee at our tee off time when we asked what time they had booked they just said we must be after you then.
Needs better organisation.
Nice course where you have to plot your way around.
Advised by a member of ground staff that Monday and Thursday mornings busy causing queues on the double holes
Drax first time
Challenging course. More hazards than you’d realise.
Always rains here....
.... well not always! But there is a water vapour factory next door (Drax Power Station). Joking aside, this is a very pleasant 12-hole course. Holes 1-5 and hole 18 are played once and holes 6-17 are played twice, some from different tee positions which varies the play, The repeat holes can lead to ‘traffic’ in the middle of the course during busy periods. The greens and fairways are very well kept and I would recommend a visit when it’s not too busy or too wet.
(The following is nothing to do with Drax Golf Course: GolfNow keep sending me unwanted emails, some of which are for reviews of courses I’ve played. I have requested that they cease to send me any emails other than booking confirmations. This has been totally ignored and surely must be contrary to UK data protection laws? However I’m sure that it’s in their T & Cs that they’re allowed to keep sending pestering emails. So before booking with GolfNow, try contacting the course directly, quoting the price on offer on GolfNow. Some courses will match that price (without the booking fee) though some will not. I expect that this review will be deleted and my account cancelled, but at least I will have got my point across).
Draw golf club
The club house is very nice it’s just a shame it’s a 10min walk over a bridge to the first Tee right next to a busy main road.
The course itself just looks messy to much rubble and concrete scattered everywhere down the sides of the course, we also had to leave our trolleys away from the 15th as it would not fit through due to the amount of rubble stacked up it wasn’t wide enough and the fairways need taking care of more some bits are cut to short and others are really thick.
A lot of the Tee off points are poorly signposted we had to ask where the third tee off was and I didn’t like the fact that some of the holes doubled up and we had to tee off from the same points more then once.
So unfortunately I won’t be playing Drax golf course again and I understand why the price was so low now at £13 each.
One plus point one of the ground staff went out of his way to find my golf partner a trolly which was very nice of him.
12 holes, not 18
Only found out when we got there that it was 12 holes not 18 which was disappointing. Car park is a fair walk away from the first tee and there are no amenities whatsoever. Course is OK and reasonably well kept. Little bit out of the way for me so probably wouldn’t go again.
12 hole golf
They have done a good job with limited space . The loop of six holes twice is a bit awkward when players are filtering. However the course is well maintained with good greens. A lot of single players on yhe course.
Very well kept!
Greeted by the owner on arrival who updated us on the a few rules and regs which was great and helpful
The course was borderline immaculate.
Played Drax several times during the 2019 season and it wasn't a patch on what it is now, and we thought it was great then! Since playing it 2019 the course seems to have had a major uplift and lots of TLC! Its a shame about the piles of rubble on a couple of holes where they are landscaping, but they are out of bounds and do not particularly affect the playing areas.
Love the edition of a new tee box on 13th as it adds a little more variety to make it feel more like 18 holes and it seemed to speed up play on the back 9.
Very enjoyable round.
P.s. Before this round, as a budget golfer I have never seen stripes in the ruff or tee box! Spot-On!
Superb greens - must play for the value
Decided to try this course after work on Monday, don’t often leave reviews but felt this deserved a recent one. Welcomed on the first tee by a member who acts as a starter and helps with navigation as it’s 12 holes which you play 6 twice from different tee positions (which works very well here). Course was brilliant, mixture of holes, condition was excellent, the greens are some of the best I’ve played in recent times. Some interesting holes, bit of work being carried out for improvements but didn’t affect us at all. Would happily go back tomorrow.
Sorry to hear you didn't have the greatest of experiences earlier this week.
Unfortunately, over the last 10 days we have been subject to over 50mm rainfall, the equivalent of 50L water. Whilst the water is starting to drain, the constant barrage of more rain isn't helping the situation. Our fantastic greenstaff have targeted specific key areas to add new drainage runs, however, given the weather, it is difficult to commence the required works without damaging key areas of the course.
As for the four-ball on the first tee, if you could be so kind to email us the date and time you played, we will certainly look into this. Since reopening the course on 13th May, we have had daily a starter on the first tee from 09:30 - 18:30. However, these duties were dissolved earlier this month at the close of the season. But, we do still have course wardens patrolling the course on a daily basis.
If you do drop us an email (address below), we will be happy to issue a complimentary four-ball voucher to be used in the new year when the weather is on our side.
Best wishes,
Liam Ridgill

Sorry to hear you didn't have the most enjoyable experience earlier this week. Unfortunately the course has been subject to over 50mm rainfall in the last 10 days equating to 50 litres of water. Whilst the water is slowly draining, the water table in the area is still high and nor running away as we would like.
As for the four-ball in front, we will look into this. Since reopening the course in May, we have had a daily starter on the first tee from 09:30 - 18:30. However, this was taken out of practice at the starter of October at the close of the season. The committee will look at what can be done to stop this happening again.
Feel free to drop us an email and we will be happy to provide a courtesy round come the new year when the weather is on side.
