Challenging interesting course
This is a beautiful parkland course, with interesting variety of holes. With a brook running through the course, there are multiple opportunities to avoid lakes, streams and blind rivers on the hardest hole.
The only downside was the greens need a bit of TLC. I'm sure they will be working on these over spring, so we will be going back in the summer.
Staff were very friendly, but if you're having lunch, make sure it is available. We had gourmet sausage rolls and crisps, which was ok.
Gatton Manor GC
The course was very soft in places. The greens held lots of water when it rained and lacked drainage. Lots of surface water lay on fairways. More temporary greens and tee boxes needed during Winter season.
Over all maintenance of the course has improved since our last visit. Tee boxes need improving. Lakes and rives need to be maintained. Stoney paths need to be levelled and bark would improve the surface passage of all paths.
This course could be outstanding but investment needed badly around this golf course.
Course was so wet it could have been close to unplayable
Needs some serious attention
I used to play this course 10-15 years ago and it was a really good challenge. Unfortunately the same thing can't be said today.
The course needs hundreds of thousands spent on it to get it back to its former glory. The location and landscape is great but the course was is in pretty bad shape. Most holes need a complete overhaul and lots of attention. Built on clay it get very wet in the winter months.
In fairness to the management team I think they know this and that's why you can get 18 holes on a Saturday morning for £25. Doubt you can do that anywhere else in Surrey right now.
Fingers crossed someone gets hold of this place and turns it round.
Very poor condition
Course was in a very poor condition. All bunkers out of action and haven’t been maintained. 3 x temporary greens and a large amount of tees off mats. Greens do not look to be treated and again are very poor. Half way house not open even though tee sheet was fully booked and could have taken some trade. A real shame as was first time playing here but will not return.
Terrible Gone Down Hill
Course has gone down hill not worth the money we paid ..:: Arrived to be told apologies we was about to ring you only 9 holes open for play. Course extremely wet fairways full of clay all greens diseased 1000s of pounds needed to bring back to standard felt like course has been let to go, could hear other golf groups very dissatisfied. Unfortunately won’t be going back not even for a fiver a round very sad for a once cracking course.
Thank you for taking the time to review Gatton Manor Golf Course.
We wanted to take this opportunity to make you aware of the recent challenges we have faced with our greens and how we are dealing with them going forward and investing in
the whole course in general.
At the back end of July 2021, our greens developed a disease (which is not uncommon) and unfortunately, it was not treated correctly by our then Course Manager. We decided to recruit a complete new greenkeeping team our new Course Manager who started with us in September recognised the disease straight away and has set about controlling it to limit its spread.
We have invested in a whole new fleet of greenkeeping equipment which we expect to take delivery of in June. We appreciate that our golf course has not been presented anywhere to the level of condition and presentation synonymous with Gatton Manor. Our aim moving forward is to take the current layout including the presentation to another level.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Gatton Manor, you will see and enjoy a vast improvement in the quality of the golf course.

Hidden Gem
Great track. Some cracking holes. Super friendly. Played in October and ground was a bit soft and boggy but I'm great nic and greens played nicely.
Thank you for taking the time to review our course and provide us with valuable feedback from your experience.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Fun course but tired
Played in a mid week 10am two ball and the course was a good challenge that you will certainly play better the second time you go. The entrance to the course and Manor House is very appealing but when you look a bit deeper, it needs investment to modernise the facilities. Alternatively, it just needs some good tlc. I don’t think management have played the course recently as they will see many things that could be improved with little work or money but they would increase the overall experience for all.
We spoke to some of the senior members who said it’s been quiet recently and that they struggle for new members and it certainly felt like this.
The course had some great holes and at points was in good condition considering the weather recently. However, tee boxes were a mess, signage was not clear enough and a course guide is a must for some of the holes that dog leg.
Shame that the bar was not serving food afterwards at around 2pm.
I’d go back again as only £30 but this course could justify asking for £40-50 a round if they made some key improvements.
Thanks for taking the time to review the course. You've touched upon some great points in your review.
We agree that Gatton on the whole needs investment.
From the 1st of May 2022 Gatton have new managing partners. They, like you can see and have bought in to the potential of Gatton Manor. They are investing substantially in the course, the hotel & clubhouse facilities. These will be in phased in over the next few years and will include various course improvements such as drainage and irrigation throughout the course. New course signage to coincide with our rebrand. Widening and lengthening our tee boxes for improved durability and sustained grass growth as well as looking to invest in a complete new fleet of green keeping equipment. We have also talked about switching the course round which is delaying us getting some course planners. I do appreciate how useful these can be for any course but especially playing Gatton for the first time.
I can only apologies regarding our kitchen being closed on the day you came. The hospitality industry has been hit hard in terms of staff and Gatton has experienced its own fair share of challenges in that department. I can assure you our food is cooked fresh and beautifully served. I would invite you visit us again soon and maybe touch base with us prior to booking to ensure we can provide you some wonderful food options.
Kind regards

Lovely course ,unfortunately we played after torrential rain and the course was very wet /bogie .Definitely would play again but later in the year when the weather is slightly better .
Gatton Manor November
I was interested to see how this course played given that it is 50 years old. It is a very good layout but given the unusually dry spell, being largely built on clay was very wet and needs substantial investment to bring it to the standard to be able to call it a championship course.
Needs Work
Nice layout and challenging course.?however needs a lot of work to bring up to standard. Greens poor, bunkers with grass and very wet. I am sure new head green keeper will sort out.
Will look to pay again next year to see improvements.
Okay for money paid

Course has deteriorated
Played the course a few times previously, approx. 3+ years ago. Unfortunately the condition of the course has deteriorated which is a great shame as it has such good possibilities.

Disappointed
The greens were in poor condition and all the bunkers were GUR. The course is in need of some TLC but you can see its potential even though there are a lot of blind shots.
Facilities were being renovated (or so it seemed) so not the great experience we anticipated but this was reflected in the rate. The staff were very friendly.
Needs some TLC
The course has the potential to be really good. They layout is good and has plenty of good features. But the course is in a state of disrepair and has not been adequately maintained for what appears to be a long period of time. The bunkers are under GUR and have clearly not been touched for a long period of time as they contained more grass than the fairway. The greens were in very poor condition, even for the winter months. Everything else was all a bit wild and needs some time spent of tidying it up. Overall, the course would be transformed if some time and effort was spent of bringing it back to a good condition.
Great value
Excellent course, greens need a little work, great to see all bunkers being refurbished with new sand,
Clubhouse and hotel being refurbished too, will definitely going back in the future weeks ahead
Course was in very good condition for time of year. Greens were well maintained, few bald patches but rolled flat. Fairways were well cut and not boggy
