Played this course a few times over the years but on this occasion the greens in particular were sub- standard ( sparse & bumpy ) . Should improve however now the grass growing season is here ( hope so ! )
First time here
I enjoyed the course, but the first cut was a little messy in places, otherwise course was in good shape, although bunkers did lack rakes so were a bit lumpy.
Signage from green to next tee was poor and course seemed a bit haphazard - never played over a green from the tee before!
My playing partners were less impressed but they can be harsh - too flat and featureless was one comment.
I will play here again but will try some other courses first.
Unfortunate day for golf
First time at Great Lever and Farnworth on a cold sunny October morning. Told on arrival that greens were temps which we thought was due to the overnight frost so a bit deflated when we teed off. Course is short but some challenging holes but putting on temps was a waste of time. Later informed by greenkeeper the the temp greens were down to local scooters vandalising the greens. Staff and members friendly, just picked a bad day.
What a shame!
Normally this is a good go to course, I’ve played here many times. Generally it’s in good condition, maybe boggy through the middle part of the round at times.
Yesterday, the tee blocks were not the best but not the worst I’ve seen either. Fairways were immaculate and so was the rough. The bad part. Greens were awful. Never had to experience anything as bad. Huge holes throughout, impossible to keep a putt online and you can see there trying to grow them out so majorly slow.
I like this course, normally good value for money but it’s going to take time to repair those greens.
Terrible greens, poor fairways and feral kids
Course in very poor condition. Greens truly awful and lots of feral kids on the course trying to steal golf balls.
Freindly welcome in the pro shop but will not be back.
Sorry great lever and farnworth
I have played this course on several occasions and today was the worst condition I have ever played. The greens were awful and on three greens the ball jumped 90 degrees off line and spoilt the day.
Greens Not Good Enough
Played this course a few months ago in the good weather & it was great (previous review). But since the weather turned the greens are showing lots of wear, patchy & bumpy.
So we will not be playing the course again this year.
Not helped by us also being slowed down initially by senior player toddling along on his own at snail's pace.!!
There are better deals at better looked after courses.
Good course, really friendly members and staff. The greens were in excellent condition the only down fall for this course is it’s layout and on course directions we got lost a few times as there is no signage. The rough is a nightmare to get out of so get your driving on point. We will play here again definitely
Disappointing
Last played this course in Spring 2017. In the intervening year the maintenance of the course has definitely deteriorated. The fairways and greens were in poor condition - fairways full of weeds and not mown for at least two weeks judging by the growth of the 'daisies'. The greens were variable - some cut short others not and the tees were badly in need of attention. Compared to other courses costing the same per round and within five miles of this one Great Lever and Farnworth leaves a lot to be desired. I probably will not paly there again.
Ok course. Short of signs to next tee and also on some holes missing yellow tee markers. Having not played there before we had to keep looking for the correct tee. Course in ok condition but rough a bit too high . Staff friendly.
Sunday golf
I had not played this course for several years, what a shame.... The course was in good condition despite the amount of rain the area had seen over the last five months. I booked the course through tee off times and started around 2.30 on my own. The course was quiet but the only downside are the few holes running near the M61 which does break the tranquility of the course, however block out the noise and enjoy the course.
Well kept challenging course
Great course to play with very friendly staff. The condition of the course itself was very good considering that it was only the 3rd weekend in April and just coming out of the winter months. The greens was a little long and could do with rolling as they were bumpy in places, but I can imagine that in a few weeks when we start to get into the summer months these greens will be superb. Overall great course and will be sure to revisit.
Good Course & Quiet
Course starts & ends with tricky par 3s, has 2 par 5s in middle but rest are reachable par4s & 3s with plenty of doglegs.
Course in very good nick especially greens - bunkers in good condition despite no rakes
Played in a 4 ball with 18 -28 handicaps & all scored well, despite playing some holes in a stiff breeze (remnants of Ophelia). Round just over 4 hrs.
Only downside was a shortage of on course distance markers, and lack of signage for some tees. Course facilities also close at 2.30pm on some days.
Will definitely play again.
Great value for money
Played great lever lots of times spring/summer/autumn... this course is excellent value for the money... with a warm welcome straight through from the pro shop to members to the bar...don't know what your looking for if you can't enjoy yourself here for the price....
interesting
great reception in the pro shop, very helpful and understanding regarding being 5 min late due to traffic, easy walking, great greens and if you hit the generous fairways you are hitting a wedge in. interesting layout and could do with a signpost to show where to go when crossing the busy road after the 6th, we got lost! friendly reception in the clubhouse and made to feel very welcome. our saturday 4 ball generally play a different course every week for the past 5 summers, over 200 in all, and this would make it into the top 20 and we all said would play again.
