Awful condition, don’t bother
Played here Sunday after not coming here for over a year. Disappointed is an understatement, the greens were just an extension of the fairways, temporary green we wasn’t told about which is a waste of time if I’m honest. And they have the cheek to ask £30 for a round still. Will never ever come back here .
No play and no notice given
Turned up at the course to find nobody at the club shop or bar and the course closed. No notice was given by the club by phone, message or via GolfNow.
That's really poor.
Poor cancellation policy
Having been told by a friend what a state the course was in I tried with no success to cancel my tee time with Golf Now (very disappointing I would of happily taken a credit note) Against my better judgment I turned up to play a course that resembled a bog I’ve never been greeted by a sign saying your playing at your own risk surely the course should be closed .
Lovely setting
Course in lovely setting with wild deer roaming in their hundreds.
Not bad for winter Golf so can't complain really.
Teeing off mats but they are OK and dont wobble.
Staff friendly.
Excellent value - Hot deal
Course has dried up fairly well from early january. Obviously on winter mats. Greens and fairways ok for time of year. Most bunkers really well presented. Shortened 4th hole to par 3 with a synthetic green which plays true so a good solution.
Nice walk
Played here many times a most pleasent place to play a round howver the greens at present are poor
Not a course for Winter
Were told carry only, not surprising in January, however no rain the past week…
Majority of golfers had trolleys, rule wasn’t enforced. Only told as checked in, as we saw other players taking trolleys from the Pro Shop.
No mention of the artificial green until we got there.
Greens covered in pitch marks, very few repairs carried out by other players, doesn’t seem to be something that is encouraged.
Bunkers were mostly stone, no sand to be found.
Won’t rush back in the winter months.
Pretty sorry state
Have played Maylands a few times over the years and I must say it was in a pretty sorry state.
Fairways were almost unplayable and the greens where a mess. Bit of a shame really. Hope it gets the TLC it needs.
Wet wet wet
Course was almost unplayable very very wet laying water on every hole sometimeswalking through1-2" of water & they were still letting trolleys out ?
Never seen it this bad before
Wet
Too wet with a lot of surface water on the fairways although greens standing up well. Mats in place on the tees.
Very enjoyable despite the weather
The course was still playable despite lots of lying water following recent downpours and we got a good soaking from another downpour half way round. The club have done really well to adapt a couple of holes affected by nearby road works and it was a very enjoyable round at a decent parkland course where everyone we met was very friendly. Will go again to play it things are a bit drier.
Great course, even in the rain.
The layout of the course is second to none, The Manager welcomed me as soon as I got there as I accidentally booked my name as A customer,
Drinks and food were a good price and all staff were very friendly.
Change for the better?
Considering major roadworks are happening right next to the course Maylands plays very well. With one temporary/synthetic green in use, the rest of the course remains unchanged.
It’s a mature parkland course that offers a reasonable challenge to the average golfer.
Value for money but at a slow pace
We have played this course a number of times, the greens not so great but we put this down to the recent wet weather
The pace of play was far to slow, such we played the front 9 twice
Nice course
Nice course, was in good condition and a nice layout top off with a great green fee. I would happily recommend
Great value
Played there on a Monday morning. Pace of play was great. With all the rain recently course was in great condition. Greens were decent.
