Still a great course even when it's wet
Managed to find a day that it wasn't due to rain so we went along to see what it was like. We had played the course in the summer and loved it. We were told I advance where we could take our trolleys and where we couldn't, so set off togged up in wet weather gear. The course was petty soggy in a lot of aces, but hey, what do you expect when it's been raining pretty much persistently for 7 days. The greens were okay and weren't holding the water and the fairways were good. Plenty of standing water between holes, but as it was walking areas only, you just avoided it. Played off mats on a couple of holes, but that was okay too. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised that the course was as good as it was considering the weather conditions. We only layer 9 holes as the weathe got bad again, so I couldn't comment on the back nine, however if I wasn't a betting person I would say it would have been as good as the front nine.
This is a well looked after and course that is clearly loved by the members and ground crew. We love it and will go back again when the weather eventually gets better. I would highly recommend it if you are a person who likes a challenge, loves a parkland course. It is beautiful and enjoyable course and one of the best in the area.
Cold round !!!!
Played this course today and started with a lot of frost on it !!!
The sun made its appearance and soon defrosted it.
Was a pleasure to play and the club house facilities are well maintained.
With That here gold on tap who wudnt be impressed!!!
Always a challenge
I play this course a lot, with my brother-in-law who is a member. Always find the course a challenge and a damp December morning with little roll adding to the challenge. Having said that 93 off of a 15 handicap was moderately pleasing. Picked a good tee time, not pushing anyone or being pushed from behind. The fee of £18 more than fair. The one thing that was letting the course down a little was the state of the greens not overly impressed. It has been a while since I played Orchardleigh but the course is renowned for having top quality greens, so todays were disappointing. Always friendly and will play again with or without my brother-in-law.
