Quiet , rural pleasent course
The course has a enjoyable playing layout , with a good mixture of long and short holes . The course was mud free and full of lush grass unlike the other local courses The greens were a little slow but very consistent .
Park Wood poor condition
Got to the course and was told no buggies or trolleys allowed due to course condition so had to carry bag for the round. The course was so soft and wet ,hardly any ball carrying forward on the fairways, ground also seemed bumpy and general condition of the greens not what they used to be.
Finished the round very tired after trudging through the soft muddy ground ,very tired and looking forward to sitting down with a drink only to find the clubhouse locked up and everyone gone home.
Nice layout. Undergoing some work
Park Wood is a good design. Challenging in places and many good holes.
Only shame was getting to the course to be told the greens "have some sand on them"......!
("some sand")
Fairways hadn't been cut for a while too which was a shame.
Still enjoyed my round. The course was completely empty.
Staff really friendly
Poor conditions
The greens was like a wet beach, the fairways was like the rough, the rough was like a jungle, pace of play was so slow they have rammed tee times in. Course could be decent if it’s looked after.
Gone downhill bigtime
So disappointed at how this course has gone downhill. They are obviously trying to improve drainage and there are trenches in front of greens and near tees with no GUR marked. Trees have chopped down all over the course. Mats used for tees were awful. Greens average at best and fairways too. Shame such a good layout looks spoilt. Won't be going again for a long time.
Better in summer
Not designed for winter golf. The tees are not good but they are improving drainage on some greens. It’s been worse but this really is a summer course
Rip off. Joke that they charge so much.
Arrived at the club to a warm welcome. Got immediately told it was carry only due to weather conditions (the weather was fine). Off winter mats which I don't mind too much but my home club never has them so a bit of a shame. Next the the first tee it had a sign saying ("why not tee up on the fairway") this did not impress me or my playing partner. When we got to the first green there was a large area of GUR and they had dug a trench in front of the green for irrigation pipes. impossible to keep the balls on the green due to frost (not their fault) but you couldn't run it in low either due to these ditches. Every green had this at the front of it. If I knew the course was going through such maintenance I would not have paid the £35 green fee. I probably wouldn't have paid £20. Fairways were very good in places but near tee boxes very muddy. The course layout is great and most holes are individual not straight up and down but I won't be returning. Absolute daylight robbery for the condition.
Park wood, very good but very wet.
Great course to play and very pleasing on the eye, with all the rain in the previous couple of days the course was saturated. To be fair green staff were on the greens removing excess water but me and my playing partner both had a lot of splash shots particularly from the rough to the side of the fairways. Greens ran very well and I played well in spite of the rainwater. Great layout and pretty on the eye, we'll be back when it's drier.
Course in bad condition and you can see why!
Worst experience I've had on a golf course. Bearing in mind the fee was £30 which is the same rate as the peak of summer. I was given a call whilst I was already in the car on the way to the club to say that no trolleys were allowed. I have never heard of this and my bag doesn't have straps attached these days. We were kindly given some old bags to use that had straps. Once out on the course, we soon realized the course was in really bad knick. Fairways ceased to be fairways really, it was like first cut with the addition of mud/leaves. The 2nd hole green was taken out of action and a flag was put in the middle of the fairway. Trying to putt the ball through mud was ridiculous. All the tee boxes were replaced with extremely poor winter mats with nowhere to put down a tee. This went on and after 12 holes we called it a day. Won't be getting any more of my money in the future!
Needs a bit of TLC
Played this course at the very beginning of the year, in fact 2nd Jan, and it was extremely wet and soggy. However the greens were not too bad but the winter tees were just mats in which you could not stick a tee. So we come back after a hot summer where most courses have been very dry and what little rain we have had has started to soften some of the fairway. Not here, it is still fairly soggy and the fringes of the green are heavy with long grass. the fairways are looking sad and the tees are still out of play and in some cases the mats really should be as well. A couple of tees were not easy to spot or even to find a mat. The saving grace wa s the greens which were still fairly true and soft but the roll was even. With a bit of TLC this course could get back to its old glory. Will visit again in spring/summer next year to see how it fairs in the warmer months.
5 1/4 hours to get round, no Marshalls which is the reason for the bad review. Joined up with a 2 ball so it wasn't due to me going as billy no mates.
Heavy rain the night before led to flooded bunkers and some sodden greens plus, annoyingly, the range being shut. A problem for me as I had arrived 40 mins early with the intention of using it.
Would still recommend as it seems a lot of course for the £30 I paid to play.
Okay if they didn't pack the tee times
Realised why I only play this course every few years, because I forget how slow it is. This time they loaded the tees every 4 minutes and combined us with another pair to make a 4 ball. But they didn't even tell us they were doing that. Course is average, could be decent but they don't put a huge effort into maintenance by the looks of it.
Worth a visit
Have been thinking of playing here for a while. Paid £27.50 for a Saturday afternoon. Nice course but not worth anymore than what I paid in my opinion. It's fairly wide fairways are tree lined so you've got a good chance to score well if you stay pretty straight. Where the greens were good they were very good, where they were a little scruffy around some edges we just moved our ball. Tee boxes were all good. Bunkers needed more sand. The course has some good grass bunkers though (nice feature). Very pretty trees surround the course. (Score 80)
NIce course
A good well laid out course, although the greens were somewhat bobbly. However the round was spoilt by the slow play. Eventually had to give up after 16 holes (almost 5 hours)!
