Penn golf course set in beautiful countryside
I am looking for a course to join the year so have been trying the local courses to me. Although this was wet underfoot, I was really taken by the layout, surroundings and course planning. So much so that I am genuinely considering joining.
James in the pro shop was really friendly and gave an honest opinion which I valued.
I will be returning in the next few weeks when we’ve had some dryer days and I am sure that I’ll love it even more.
Pace of play was rapid and I pretty much had the back 9 all to myself as this is where I started due to an earlier comp going off the front 9.
All in all, lovely course and I will be playing there again very soon.
Wet day
Played in between Xmas and new year. Course was soaked and some temp greens but no problem. Everyone very welcoming will be back . Be careful generally this time of year Golf Now taking bookings the previous two days to when we played and course was shut . When we arrived the guy said when did you book cuz we have only just decided it’s ok to open .
Closed
Closed, no one told us…no one cared and said to call Golf Now. No one answers the phone at golf now.

Penn Golf Club
Great course.
They don’t use Tee Times tho so you can get off whenever you’re ready.
When we finished there was 20 players waiting to play
Good Round
Caught behind a society but not much you can do about that. Course in good nick and greens were fast, overall a good experience and will be coming back.
Challenging course
On arrival the staff were very hospitable, no issues with booking confirmation. The course as been cleared which as speedy up general play. Full greens and nicely maintained. Highly recommend this course as it suit all range of players.
Great Value and a strategic test on what is a very 'English' Course.
I used to be a member at this course so returning for the first time in 7 years was exciting. It could have been a better day (It poured for the front nine) and the pace of play on the front nine was v slow (2hr 15 for 9 holes for us a two ball was slow). However the 4 groups in front of us went in at 9 and we absolutely 'flew' round the back nine.
Course was in super nick my only concern was hole 17 which was very wet and really although it was a wet day it had not been overly wet before we played so how this will hold up in the winter remains to be seen.
The pro in the club shop was very pleasant. My only concern really was booking a time via golf now only to be told that they don't do tee times. That is great if you rock up early and you can just go but the opposite applies too. We booked 1.30 and had (it didn't so this is only hypothetcial) there been a few groups waiting to go out we could have teed off half an hour later.
Its a really good test of golf. Some long holes (1 & 18 are tough to open and close, with 8 also v tough into the wind!!) but most very reachable. However, position off the tee is paramount as you can get blocked out by even being a little off line. Strategy is important.
My only other gripe is that you need a code to get out of the car park (I'd forgotten this despite being a member for 3 years). This was not told to us when we signed in and it would be good if it was told to you on checking in.
Other than that, it is a great course and one I will return to.
I will return without doubt
Great curse
Absolutely lovely course. Even with the wet weather we had had the greens were in rant his condition. Definitely will return
Disappointing
Had.heard favourable reviews of Penn GC but came away disappointed. Play was so slow that we decided to cut our losses and come off after nine holes. We were just glad we had paid reduced green fees.
Brilliant greens
Nice course greens are brilliant and fast bunkers need a little TLC but overall a lovely course
Local Gem
Wolverhampton and surrounding areas has a plethora of good courses, Penn being one of those.
Penn is a heathland course with plenty of tree-lined fairways to catch out those errant shots. The rough on some parts of the course can also be very punishing.
Turf is lovely and spongy and the greens fast and true.
The club is a members club but does welcome visitors. Definitely no pompous air and graces about it.
Disaster. Take your money elsewhere.
Eighty pound for a four ball.and was a shambles, and disaster from start to finish. Booked with Golf Now. Turned up on the day and despite booking a tee time was told the course was effectively closed due to ladies matches in the morning and men’s scratch comp in the afternoon. The club are quick enough to take your money but don’t liaise with Golf Now. Was eventually offered the 10th tee after being scoured at by a number of ‘lady’ golfers. Joke. Tried to complain to Club Secretary who Suggested Playing at Penn GC was good value for £20 despite what happened on the day. Keep away. These people give private courses a bad name and do nothing to improve the reputation of golf in general.
Gem of Course
Excellent value for money....Pro was very welcoming along with members who was quite happy to let us through on the 1st tee...It was a good test of golf in the wind and intermitting rain... I definitely will play again soon...
