Good course!
A good course found using the app, front 9 is very tight and challenging, set within the race track but very good. Back 9 in a more scenic setting and nice to play.
Value for money was great, can’t complain at all, friendly staff and easy to find.
Poor
Not a big fan, green conditions were very patchy big cracks in them. Course was poorly signposted from hole to hole making guesswork on what tee box to play off. I got a cheaper deal through app and didn’t think it was worth £19 in month of Sundays after hour I travelled to play course. No buggies available as they were being locked up as person looking after course was going home and didn’t want them to be vandalised. Overall a poor experience and poor course. I Won’t be going back in a hurry… if you were paying £30 to play this course I’d have asked for a refund
Playing Southwell Golf Club
Nice course with 2 very different 9 holes, 2nd 9 has small greens which makes it more challenging
Not Green Greens
100 yards to the ‘green’, I thought - as long as I land this over the bunker, it should roll on. Turns out there was no bunker.
The ‘greens’ were more black, covered in everything but grass and unenjoyable to put it nicely.
The course itself has potential to be lovely, especially the back 9 but can’t escape the elephant in the room. Not value for money on this occasion.
Hidden Gem
Second round here but first time in winter. Course in excellent condition, a couple of greens were bumpy and needed a roller, but happily still not a temp in sight.
Lots of water in play, especially on the front nine, and a challenge for golfers of all abilities,
Given that the green fees are scandalously cheap I would happily give Southwell five stars, and will definitely be back.
Not the best start
Not the best of starts, 7:30 tee time booked..Proshop wasn’t open to sign in, get told any local rules etc
Front 9 quite quirky being inside a racecouse
Whole course pretty poorly sign posted especially 15th green to 16th tee, spent 5 minutes wondering round looking where to go!
Course condition was pretty good considering recent weather
Probably won’t return!
Great playable course
Ideal course for a round front 9 quite easy back 9 a lot more challenging.
7th hole is very daunting short par 3 but too much on it your in the drink at the back too short your in the drink. Club selection is key here.
Friendliest staff going…
Course was interesting with the front 9 being enclosed in the racecourse. Staff in the pro shop took the time to explain local rules and give some tips on the first few holes. Staff and members in the bar were equally friendly and accommodating, welcoming and nice place to play golf!
Very poor greens
The greens where in such bad conditions, huge patches of no grass just mud with sand chucked over the top. The fairways where in better condition than the greens. Very poor when paying £27 a round, a lot better courses with immaculate greens within a 10 mile radius to play at instead
A pleasant surprise
I needed to go to Newark and decided late to play a local course. The first o holes are on the racecourse and I was very pleasantly surprised by how long and tricky these holes where with lakes, bushes and bunkers. The back 9 was more conventional. Many holes need careful drives as that is where the ditches and trees are hiding!
Southwell
Excellent course for the beginners and intermediate
Southwell golf course
Course in good condition, price very competitive and pace of play was good at time we played. Staff all very friendly.
