Very Average
The course is on a chalk base which is a huge advantage in the current relentless wet weather we have at the moment. All of the courses in Gloucestershire have been shut for weeks so it is a real asset that this club is always open.
However while the course is open, the temp tee boxes are just mud, the bunkers are all GUR which I assumed would be because of the weather but actually they were all either overgrown, empty or filled with gravel.
The greens were awful but in fairness the weather has been bad. None were true and it felt like pot luck whether or not the ball followed the correct line.
While the lady at check in was very pleasant the gentleman who I assume was the owner was not very friendly and everything felt like an effort and inconvenience for him.
Overall main advantages are that the course can handle the weather and there are some nice holes, a good mix of long holes and short holes, some great views.
The main disadvantages are that course is not kept very well. It has the potential to be brilliant but with no active bunkers and no water hazards it offers little excitement.
Local and drains well but oh my
Not played course for 8 years and apart from greens everything else has deteriated, to the point that it needs a bit of investment and tlc to restore it to a half decent course but don't hold your breath.
Great winter golf
Considering the amount of rain conditions were amazing good fun
Very nice course
Great layout, greens was good wet in places but overall good for the time of year. Had good roll for this time of year, drive 3 of the par 4s so that was nice. Would definitely go back again in the summer.
Like an abandoned golf course
When we arrived, told we couldn't use the driving range as they hadn't collected any balls yet (it was 9am on a Saturday)
Course is a good layout but the condition is one of the poorest I've seen. Fairways are ok, but tee boxes are churned up, bumpy, not flat and the tee markers themselves are like scrap metal.
But the biggest issue was the bunkers, no sand, full of weeds, and no rakes in any of them
Greens were infected, and generally very bad condition
Pro shop is empty, nothing there
Round
Has potential.
Greens some damage.
Bunkers poor
Fairways good
Tees good
Wide fairways
Improve bunkers and greens, grow up the rough and will be a good course
Excellent choice during rainy spells
We booked a round here as our course in Southampton had been closed due to water logging for a few days. This course is on chalk and there was no sign of standing water. Quite hilly, very open, some long par fours and a couple of tricky 2 tier greens.
We had a very enjoyable round.
Dreadful greens
This course could be so much more, ruined by uneven disease ravaged and pitch mark littered greens
Disappointed.
Played here many times and always enjoyed it but today we were treated pretty poorly in the club shop. We were told we couldn’t play the full 18 as we were on the hot deal and that only means up to 18 holes, which isn’t true at all. Felt like they didn’t really want us there unless we paid full green fees, which is fine, because we won’t be going back.
Owner seems to hate golf now players, even if you played dozens of times before, really terrible attitude, talked himself out of selling a buggy and other bits today just from the rude attitude, lied about closing time and golf now policy, saying he doesnt have to let you play 18, wont ever be going back, 100s of other courses 🤷🏻♂️
Besides that, the couse always used to be ok, has great potential, just going downhill all the time, bunkers are always in awful condition, some even just being filled with dirt now just because they cant be bothered to maintain the place, all just more reflection on the owner, shame really.
Excellent course ,
Great course, challenging in some areas
Shame the bookers have bushes growing out of them lol
green were good, but .........
green were good, but some of the pin placements were questionable.
Fairways lacked attention, whilst the punkers were in very poor shape.
First but not last time
A course in rolling Hampshure countryside, wide fairways and some challenging holes. We walked the course but may utilise a Buggy next time!!
Great course, well kept, except bunkers
Lovely course, on the whole we'll signed between holes. Greens good, fast too. Such a shame bunkers were in unplayable condition... didn't interfere with our game though. Love to have another go... competitive prices so why not! Staff helpful and friendly.
