Not Very good THIS TIME..
Well I've played this course before and been pleased over all, this time was not a good experience because of the fact they are doing golf card walkway repairs on the front nine(which is good and well needed) but nothing was mentioned about this online when booking a 18 hole outting . The pace of play was horrible due to this and playing the back nine 2x to make my paid 18 hole round. The fairways are 40% dirt at this time in need of grass growth.. the carts need upgrading\replacing. The staff was doing the best they can to accommodate but definitely was disappointed with this course. Seems it will be like this for a while as they plan the close and do the back 9 after the front is completeld.
Great course, slow play
Great course but this place is notorious for taking forever. I would play here more often if they staggered the tee times a bit. Only reason I play there now is because i live close and the course is pretty good for the price. Be prepared for a 5 hour (I have played when it took 6 hours before) round.
Also- they don't have much in the club house.
Municipal course
Solid municipal course. If you like a decent pace of play schedule your round early. If you're slow the afternoon is better
Wet Sunday
Course was very wet from all the rain. Tee boxes and fairways not great. Greens were not bad all things considered. Enjoyed the round although there is no place to park at the course. You have to park in the street and walk to the course. Any day playing golf is a good day.
Needs LOTS of work
Are they closing the course and building houses? It would hope so with how bad the conditions are. Greens are only thing good about the course now.
Massive holes in cart paths, mud pits everywhere, standing water after no rain for 4-5 days.
This course used to be in pretty good shape.
Won’t play here again until they get it in better shape.
Pro shop is bare as well.
Great city course
This course is a good round of golf. Its a little longer than I usually like to play but for the most part we liked it. The sides varied a bit the front side was a little more open and forgiving. The back side was narrower and more demanding. I would recommend this course to anyone who really likes golf .
Would love to see the actual scores of the 15-19 handicap golfers who rate the course as Moderate in difficulty
Typically in muni shape but has some seriously difficult holes. The par 5s are somewhat easy but tricky (2 water carries on #2, tight drive on #10), fun carry on #17) and the 3s are average but the 4s? They're all you can handle. Not that length alone determines difficulty but the front 9 par 4s are 417, 366 (they don't let you play from the blue 429 anymore), 388 (tough hole, #1 HC), 433, 365 (and tight), and 371 (cupcake). The 2 hardest holes are on the back - #15 443 and #18 446, but #s 12 & 13 are 393 and 395 and uphill. 'Moderate'. Riiiiight.
BETTER DRAINAGE/GREEN IMPROVEMENT
Need to fix the drainage issues that cause the fairways and cart path to completely flood. Also need more dirt around the cup on the green.
Slow Pace of Play
For the price, it is OK. But pace of play is super slow, and the course is in very average condition.
Chastain is a nice long course.
You really can’t expect a lot from a municipal type course. Although it’s nice and long and wide. It’s a bit rough, especially the cart path! The greens are Soso. But overall having a course in town and nearby is definitely worth the play. And especially the price for seniors! Bring your own Gatorade and snacks. All they have is water. And they are a cashless business.
