Big improvement in last few years
St. Marks has undergone significant improvements in the past couple of years under new ownership. The facilities have been upgraded and the staff is courteous and attentive, unlike past years. I think is a good but not great layout. Course conditions are much improved. The greens are still a bit slow. Golf carts need replacement.
Fairways under water
It’s a real nice course, but at that time, half of the fairways were under water. You often could nur get to your ball without getting water in your shoes.
Without rain the days before, it would have been very nice.
Drying out, getting better
After the big storms the course is recovering well. The rough is up and this course has a history of not draining well, so lift clean and place is your best bet.
Great course
The course was a great mix of difficult holes and accessible ones. Would definitely recommend
The links
Always enjoy playing a round and then having a drink and meal after.
Staff is always attentive and the food is excellent.
Walking Rate Not Clear...Then didn't get to use the Cart alot.
My disappointment with this course is two-fold:
1. They list a walking rate price when almost all other courses list prices with a cart included. GolfNow should not allow this apples to oranges comparison. Had to pay an additional $24 for a riding cart.
2. And that led to the second surprise which was not disclosed in the pro shop before I rented the cart. At least FIVE of the par 4 holes were cart path only! You don't find that out until the GPS on the cart restricts you. So the cart was only useful on about half of the holes.
The final frustration was a foursome that was at least two holes behind, making several groups wait at every tee box. No marshals around...
No breathing room
Pace of play was gridlock entire round. Good luck if you're parnered with someone who loses a ball. Not enjoyable knowing you have to play mistake free golf all outing.
Tight and Weird
If you like paying a lot of money to play between white soldiers everywhere, then you'll love this place. Greens were clowny too. Do not recommend. Good clubhouse vibes, but the amenities are expensive.
Do NOT ride in the cart. You'll just be getting yelled at all day about where you're not allowed to be, which is about 92% of the course's surface area. That was a total waste of money. In hindsight, I should have just used my pushcart because the pace of play is SLOW.
Good pace. Bad pins and some unplayable greens
Course was in ok condition, however some of the greens are unplayable because of the slopes. Had holes were you would putt up to the hole and ball would roll back off the green. Staff was very friendly and clubhouse was very nice
GolfNow and course Proshop not communicating
Proshop refused to acknowledge GolfNow had already paid for two players and charges them anyway, even though I had cler evidence I had already paid GolfNow for all three players!
Great value and getting better
I’ve only played Links twice but I’ve been impressed with both the course and the staff both times. There are some critical reviews here but most are from 3 to 6 years old. There are issues with every non country club course and Links is no different. Several fairways have ground under repair areas but they are clearly marked as such which indicates to me that they are aware that improvements are needed and they are working on them. Other courses just have bare spots or runoff issues that are not marked as GUR which tells me they either are totally oblivious to the shortcomings or they just don’t care and would prefer that golfers just get over the issues. Greens are fast and yet soft enough to receive and reward approach shots. Some pins could be placed in better spots to avoid bare spots or excessive runouts due to slope and/or speed, making lag putts critical. I obviously like the course and recommend it to others as fair, playable, and affordable at $52 + cart during the week. If it were closer to San Diego I’d play it regularly.
Lake house golf course is an excellent value
Lake House Golf Course formally known as Lake San Marcos golf course is a true hidden secret. Tucked behind San Marcos High School it is off the beaten path. The course is in overall excellent shape even with the recently punched greens. The restaurant and welcoming balcony are great spots to eat some snacks, enjoy a drink or two with friends. This course is a great value for the money. If you’ve not played here before, you would be well served to try it next time you are in North County
Course is over rated. Wet in many spots Carts can't go many places without stopping Cart paths are terrible. Needs work Would not play it again.
