Great bang for buck.

Golf course was really good. Course was in good condition. Played at 2 PM on a Sunday. Excellent pace of play. Shorter course, but makes up for it with challenging greens. As a female player playing from the whites I found some of the par 3's quite challenging distance wise. Really good pricing, and excellent for students! Would definitely play again!

MB

Walked the Blues (6083/69.9/119) in roughly 4H twilight. Sunny, fairly calm and around 70 made for a very pleasant afternoon. $30 to walk with the SLO Co. card is a good rate for this course.

Kikuyu tees mostly level and well maintained with decent coverage.

Kikuyu fairways mostly lush and good to play from.

Mostly Kikuyu rough maintained low with mostly good coverage. Beside and behind the greens the rough is lusher/taller. DO NOT short side yourself here! Many hard pan areas farther off the fairways.

Few sand traps on this course, but those observed were well maintained with good quality sand.

Smallish, old school poa greens were mostly firm but held approach shots very well. Putted medium speed and were relatively smooth even late afternoon. Most slope back to front and fall off to at least one side. No tiers on these greens, but down hillers are to be avoided on these greens.

Customer service excellent, friendly Marshall and Starter. Small driving range and a busy restaurant onsite. Never any on course services here. Fun course, Recommended.

BAD STAFF AND PRO

We showed up for our round and it turned out to be almost a 6 hour round. They over book and under perform.

I ended up leaving my range finder on the golf cart. When I noticed it missing I called the pro shop. They told me they had it there. I asked if they could mail it to me since I lived over 5 hours away and I would gladly pay for the shipping. They said no problem they would get it out. A few days went by and I had not heard from them about the shipping cost nor had I received my range finder. So I called only to be told that the person who I spoke to was off and I would have to call back after the weekend. So I called the following week to be told that they could not find the range finder now. After several days of trying to contact the manager Matt he finally called me back. He said the range finder that I was told was mine was really someone else's. He then started to get upset and yelling at me when I was asking simple questions. He said I had an ulterior motive and what did I want. I was calm the entire time and he just keep getting louder and louder on the phone with me. I told him all I wanted was to find out what happened when I was told one thing then somethings else a week later.

I fully understand it is my responsibility that I left my rangefinder but to be told it was there and then treated the way I was by a manager of a golf course it ridiculous.

Morro Bay

Walked the Blacks (6360/71.0/123) in around 5H mid day for the SLO Card rate of $27. Played with 3 nice guys who were the last group of an 11 man Bachelor Party golf outing. They freely admitted they were not golfers. They had the whiff, skull and shank pretty dialed in. POP was just brutal, shockingly we were in position on 18. I knew we were in trouble when all 11 guys of the Bachelor Party were waiting to tee off on #10 when we made the turn. No shortage of beer and cigars. Clear, consistent 1-3 club wind in the mid 60's made for challenging scoring conditions. Kikuyu tees had good coverage except for a few tees under large trees which were thinner. Decently maintained for divots. Kikuyu fairways winter thin, semi lush with good coverage, Mostly kikuyu rough mowed down low. Winter thin and some areas are hardpan. The few sand traps on this layout were well maintained with fine, brown dirt/sand. Smallish poa annua greens are at least 10 days from being good again after spring maintenance. They putted medium speed and were bumpy. Mostly firm but still held irons well. Customer service was excellent, quick efficient check in, friendly starter. Almost never any on course services here. Busy restaurant onsite. No GPS on the basic carts, small driving range that is adequate. Solid, fun to play layout with no water or many places you will lose a ball. However, the Kikuyu, tall trees, hilly terrain and small, sloping quick greens are a good test. Scoring is tougher here than the scorecard would indicate. Recommended.

Walked the Blues (6083/69.6/119) in 4H, 30M mid morning for the SLO Card rate of $27. Played with the SLO Co. Golf Club. Les, Jeff and Chris are a very nice group to play with. Overcast, muggy, calm and around 70.

Kikuyu tees have good coverage and were well maintained for divots.

Kikuyu fairways getting better each week. Mostly lush and nice to play from.

Mostly kikuyu rough lusher close to the fairway, hardpan well off many fairways. Not tall but thick, it grabs balls and clubs alike.

Few sand traps on this layout, but they were well maintained with fine, brown dirt/sand.

Smallish poa annua greens putted medium fast speed and rolled nicely. Mostly firm but still held irons very well. There are several greens on this course (5/6/11/12/13 come prominently to mind) that if you are on the wrong side of the hole, good luck. Putts/chips seemingly dying near the hole coming from the wrong direction can roll well by the hole right off the green.

Customer service was excellent, quick efficient check in, friendly starter. Almost never any on course services here. No GPS on the basic carts. Small driving range has about a dozen grass stalls and is adequate for warm-up. Busy restaurant on site with good food/service @ normal golf course prices. Solid, fun to play old school layout. Walked the Blacks (6360/71.0/123) in 4H, 15M mid morning for the SLO Card rate of $27. Played with Marvin, Vince and Phil. Nice to play with Mcantos and Stickboy on their Central Coast golf pilgrimage. Foggy, on some of the more elevated holes you could have fog passing between you and you playing partners on the other side of the fairway. Breezy in the mid 60's.

Kikuyu tees had good coverage except for a few tees under large trees which were thinner. Decently maintained for divots.

Kikuyu fairways much better after being vericutt a few months back. Mostly lush with good coverage,

Mostly kikuyu rough mowed down low. Winter thin and some areas are hardpan.

Morro Bay

Walked the Blues (6083/69.6/116) in 4H, 15M early morning. Played with the MB Golf Group. Overcast, breezy and around 65. $27 to walk with the SLO Co. card is a good deal on a weekday morning. Kikuyu tees decent coverage, mowed down and well maintained for divots. Kikuyu fairways getting better, okat coverage mowed down low and decent to play from. Mostly Kikuyu rough maintained low with mostly good coverage. Many hard pan areas farther off the fairways. Beside and behind the greens the rough is lusher/taller. Few sand traps decently maintained with few foot prints. Mostly smallish poa greens firm and putted medium fast and were relatively smooth. They held approach shots well. These greens are difficult. There are at least 10 greens here that if you are above the hole you are in trouble on many pin locations. Balls barely missing holes with little pace can easily have 8-12' coming back. old school with no large tiers or mounds. However, there are few straight putts and putts/chips can have a great deal of break. Customer service excellent, friendly Marshall and Starter. Never any on course services here. Morro Bay looks alot more like a mountain course than a beach course. Hilly, tree lined with no water less than a mile from the ocean. The tree lined fairways are constantly up down hills, some severely up/down. Not a tight layout and it offers some tremendous views of Morro Bay and Morro Rock on a clear day. Being at sea level coupled with the lack of roll from the kikuyu make this course play hundreds of yards longer than you would presume based on the scorecard yardages. The par 71 layout featuring three par 5's and four par 3's is fun to play. Most par 3's play downhill and most par 5's play uphill, so the scorecard yardages are very deceptive. Tough walking course with all the hills. Fun course, Recommended.

Kikuyu tees just okay. Few tees needing divot attention but the grass is thin in many areas.

Kikuyu fairways mediocre. Winter thin and firm, some recently vericut.

Walked the Blues (6083/69.6/116) mid morning in 4H, 50M. Played with Doug and Joe, both good sticks as the last group in the weekly Morro Bay GC game. The guys directly in front of us were woefully slow, well behind the 4some in front of them and they were only a 3some? Clear, breezy and around 70. $27 to walk mid morning with the SLO Co. card is a good deal IMO.

Being at sea level coupled with the lack of roll from the kikuyu make this course play hundreds of yards longer than you would presume based on the scorecard yardages. Kikuyu fairways were winter thin, mowed down low and decent to play from.

Mostly Kikuyu rough was maintained low with mostly good coverage. They had recently vericutt the Kikuyu in the rough, and even though low, you were probably drawing a poor to bad lie. Many hard pan areas farther off the fairways.

The few sand traps were decenly maintained with few foot prints.

Mostly smallish poa greens were firm and downright quick today. Quickest they have been here in awhile. Medium fast overall and relatively smooth, they held approach shots well. However, if you were downhill AND downwind, better make it. Balls barely missing holes with little pace could have 8-15' on the next putt. No large tiers or mounds, but there are few straight putts and putts above the hole could be quick. Beside and behind the greens the rough is taller.

Walked

Morro Bay

Walked the Blacks (6360/70.8/119) in 4H twilight for $32. Played the front as a 3some and the back as a 4some. Clear, sunny and breezy around 75.

Kikuyu tees were much improved from my last visit. Nice with good coverage.

Kikuyu fairways were very nice to play from.

Mostly kikuyu rough was fairly lush and thick. Would quickly kill your shots, very little roll and will grab your clubs trying to escape. It was deep enough that I stepped on someone's forgotten LW behind 18 green on my way to the parking lot after the round.

Only a few sand traps on this layout. Was not in any, but they were well maintained.

Smallish poa annua greens putted medium fast but were still showing the remnants of punching. Not their normal smooth here, probably a week from being back to normal.

Almost never any on course services here. No GPS on the basic carts, small driving range that is shorter clubs only. Customer service was excellent, quick efficient check in, friendly starter. Recommended, no frills but one of the best muni's around IMO.
