Great layout. Poor condition.
Sharp Park resides in Pacifica, CA. It has a great layout with some holes requiring a carry over barrancas. The problem is course condition and kack of amenities. Bare patches in fairways and multiple ball marks on greens make rating this course any higher impossible. However, low prices are compelling.
Save Your Money
Course was in unplayablecondition. No f fairways, just long mushy grass with clover everywhere. Lost 4 balls in the middle of the fairway on the first 3 holes and quit.
Course is has a good location and near to my house.
Front nine is muddy. Back nine is better. Playing just the back nine is recommended.
Muddy fairways
Fairways in bad shape very muddy, you get penalized for a good shot, your ball get plugged.
Not Ready
This is my home course and unfortunately the course is not dry enough to really play.
The groundskeepers are making every attempt to keep conditions up, but since this rain won’t stop it will take time, possibly months to be normal play.
The course it too large to have a good drainage system.
Needs a major makeover in all areas.
Let me start by saying that I have played around 40-50 rounds here. The layout is great. The holes are interesting and challenging. The design is by the legend of Augusta himself. When it’s warm and dry, it’s a great day even with the blemishes. However, there are numerous ways this course can be improved. First, the greens are horrendous on the best of days. Players are lazy with repair and the staff clearly doesn’t have a handle on how to care for them. Putting through a minefield every time. I swear Lincoln Park has better tended greens. And that’s saying something. Second, way too many barren spots/questionable obstacles. Seed the areas that need it and block them off. Basic upkeep on your course. Not that hard. Novel concept, make a clearly visible barrier while the ground repairs. On the obstacles? Tree trunks. Literally not even rooted. Just there. Move them out. They don’t add character. Then your mowers can actually do their job around the rough and make it manageable. Weeds growing over a random tree trunk doesn’t add value to the experience. Drainage is horrible. Partially due to the physical location and obviously heavy rains can’t be blamed. It’s winter. My issue is that nothing is being down to fix problematic sections year after year, in good weather. I’m not an engineer but there must be a solution that can help with this. Again I’m not blaming the weather. Just the lack of meaningful improvement when there is a chance to do so. And to the people complaining about the horrible conditions the last few months? What are you doing? If you know the course and play there often then stop complaining. It’s winter what did you expect? The place doesn’t drain well and it’s been raining for weeks. Get a clue. Finally, the staff. There is a general saltiness permeating this golf course. The dude who checks you in is always in a bad mood. I don’t need a best friend to check me in. Just be polite and forgettable. He’s there everyday and is unpleasant to interact with. Just rude. Talks without listening. The food in the restaurant is terrible. The bartender and staff are permanently scowling. It’s loaded with regulars who are loud, drunk, and obnoxious. I think they just drink there and don’t actually play. I wish this place warranted my business. There’s just better options out there. Why continue to support a course that has no intention of making the golf experience enjoyable? I mean that’s the whole point isn’t it? I won’t be giving them another dime until some major changes occur. Neither should you. It’s a waste of time and money.
not told about terrible course conditions
I have played Sharp many times and while it is a bit rough (in terms of maintenance) I have always found it very playable and very enjoyable.
When I made the reservation on golfnow I was not informed of how terrible the condition of the course was. Very muddy. Most fairways have not been moved and grass is 6 to 8 inches high. So high that you could see where your ball landing in the middle of the fairway but not find it.
It is outrageous that golfnow does not inform you or current terrible conditions. Even as discounted rate it was not worth it.
Ridiculously muddy
I know it's not the fault of the staff, but there's been some rain here lately and the course simply does not drain well. That means you're standing in 2-3 inches of mud on almost every shot and the ball you hit right into the middle of the fairway will get plugged and lost.
Because it's so wet, they haven't mowed the fairways in weeks so in addition to battling the mud, every shot is like hitting out of the rough.
Not very enjoyable
Expect to step in the mud and lose several balls in the un-trimmed fairways and large puddles. It's a shame that I like the course. Despite not raining for a couple of days I'd expect the conditions to be much better, but it was worse.
Don't play Sharp Park right now
I love Sharp Park, and I want to see it someday realize its full potential. Unfortunately, my golf group of 8 guys made the mistake of booking two Saturday tee times without checking out the recent GolfPass reviews. It was the wettest, muddiest course I've ever played. Virtually everyone in our group ruined a pair of golf shoes, pants or both. Surprisingly the back nine holes weren't that wet. The fairways of the front nine, especially those across the street, were mosh pits. Everyone would lose plugged balls hit right down the middle. With the winter we're having, it's wise to call before you book and ask for honest answers about the conditions. The pro shop gave us the resident rate at $45, $20 off, but it was so unplayable that no golfers should be sent out in those conditions. It's harmful to the golf ocurse. I will give Sharp Park another chance when there's an extended dry stretch, but it's going to take a while to get things back to playability.
Golf Lagoon
The course was unmowed and often under water. We would not have played if we were told ahead of time. Worst drained course ever played. Won’t be playable for months. Should close and refund my green fees.
Not a place to play after rain
Arrived at course and was told they were charging SF rates only ($39 vs. $57) cart path only and no rain checks. Course probably should have been closed as it was extremely wet and muddy. Between the two of us we probably lost 20 balls in the fairway which were not mowed in quite a while and the ball would be buried in the mud and unable to find.
bad course condition
i don't understand terrible course condition. almost fairway and rough drain badly.
Unexpected hazards
The course off the tee was excellent. The tee boxes were in decent shape. The first 4 holes were pretty good. The 5th I think is a par 3, the tee box was a bit of a mound so it was a little hard to find a good spot to tee off from. The rest were fine until you got to the 13th hole. From there, the course has some serious drainage problems. After bombing a drive into the fairway, I couldn't find my ball but I did find 3 others, all sucked into the fairway. On the 16th and 17th hole, any drive in the fairway had a chance to land or roll into a unintended pond of water. So in all honesty, play this course after a dry spell because if its rained within the last 30 days or so, I wouldn't recommend it.
Overgrown fairways, bad pace
Couldn’t find my ball half the time in the fairway. Weeds and dead grass everywhere. Tons of random people walking on course and cutting me. No organization of playing groups.
