Nice course
Greens and fringe great condition. I see new bunkers , which is a plus. Tee box needs work
I played here a few years ago and I thought they made some improvements but not
Lost six balls on the fairway course need some TLC. It would not play again more value for your money if you play the other San Diego executive courses, Mission Bay or balboa.
It’s a Par 3 course (kinda)
I should’ve done more homework on the course but I had just rolled into town and was desperate to play somewhere not terribly expensive. To my surprise, I found out the course is mostly par 3s. BTW, San Diego likes to gouge visitors and tourists with “non-resident” green fees. Not sure what the logic is but we don’t do that in the south. Most holes are par 3s except for 3 or 4 of them…and even those are short 4s. I also noticed most people didn’t repair their divots or ever heard of a ball mark repair tool. I spent a lot of time repairing the greens. If you want to just work on your short game then it’ll get the job done.
Scenic and centrally located in San Diego.
Hidden gem in San Diego. Friendly staff, especially the course Ambassadors.
Advanced Executive course
I felt the tee boxes could have been in better shape. the grass around the greens provided great lies. 15FT off the green the lies were rough! This provided a great challenge with the short game. the greens looked rough but honestly rolled a lot better then excpected. Great bang for your buck and uphill and downhill tee shots. It was a great course to be at!
Tight Canyon Course
Toughest exec I've played in Southern California, bring extra balls if you struggle with accurate shots!
New management. Same course. Variable pricing ruined players club.
Last year, tecolote had a great players club deal. Mid week, before twilight, $15 bucks and you got a beer. After twilight, 10 bucks and 2 beers. You pay monthly set fee and you feel like you’re getting a deal.
Well, over the last year they have raised everything from the monthly fee (used to be $30, now $45), and dynamic pricing (aka price gouging) depending on when you go out. Twilight mid week is $22! $22!
That’s a 10 dollar round bro! You didn’t improve anything on the course, it still looks pretty bad guys. My membership is cancelled and im done with tec until they cut out this BS dynamic pricing.
Make players club affordable again.
Played a round @Tecolote
This is the course I cut my teeth on when I was a kid and my dad would take me here 40 years ago to start learning the game.
The course is still the same - great for short iron play! It's a par 3 course with 4 par 4's.
Par 58 total but any errant shorts wide will lose a ball so hit your greens!
I used the course to start getting back into the game after an 11 or 12 year hiatus from it and god did it feel good to hit some balls around again!
First time at Tecolote Canyon
A pretty good executive course. Back & forth within a canyon with some elevation changes, doglegs, and hazards (rivers/creeks).
Some work needed but it was good to see maintenance staff (friendly) out doing work so it is being looked after.
All in all, a nice course..My only complaints are pace of play and a couple holes (from the white tees) are too short.
Farther and farther away
I play this course once each month and take pictures of the course to compared work performed or not performed, to say they made improves, would be to much, everything is the same, the bare minimum to get by and embezzle money from people, they charge more for carts than most golf clubs that have a full length course, balboa course is way better and faster. The carts they have are busted, old old carts, barely get you around the course.
Hahahahah, seems more of a personal problem than a golf course problem, I play here weekly and rarely lose balls. Maybe you should stay in on the range and practice more. Don’t blame the golf course because you suck.
