Another sad municipal course...
Sunnyvale has let this course slide even further. While there is a restaurant/bar above the proshop, the 9th hold snack shack is still an unused dilapidated look building, the snack cart has a poor selection of drinks, and it's always frustrating to remember that their practice/warm-up facilities consist of one putting green - no chipping, and no driving range. Most of the water features on the course have been 90% drained, so they are just big mud pits now, really takes away from the look of the course. The tees are in pretty bad shape, you have to move around to find a spot that isn't super uneven and/or sandy - who wants to slip while hitting your drive? The greens are in reasonable condition but they are SLOW. Unfortunately the overall state of this course seems to be typical for municipal courses in the area, Palo Alto Muni is about the same, if not worse, and I've heard Santa Clara is worse than Sunnyvale.
Senior
If you’re a senior, cheaper to call in rather than use golf now! But we had great weather and the course is in great shape! The pro shop had Taylor made balls for cheap! Employees are very nice and knowledgeable! We had a Great Time!
Grass is knee high on the rough, impossible for non pro to hit out or even find the ball. I know we been having lots of rain, but they need to trim the grass down.
Nice Fairways
The fairways and traps were in good shape for all of the rain we’ve had lately. The greens are still healing from the recent aeration but still very playable.
The only big improvement I would suggest would be to add a bathroom at the 9th hole on the front track since there are 13 holes to complete before getting back to the clubhouse bathrooms.
Poor conditions. No communication
We arrived to play our teaetime to find out They were aerating the greens, and we had no notification of this. Not only were they doing it during the round, they moved the flagstick to the fairway, so there was essentially no putting.
Slow pace but otherwise great value on a fun layout
Played on a Tuesday afternoon after a lot of rain in the past few weeks. The course was definitely a bit soggy but quite playable. Pace was very slow especially for a weekday afternoon - took us nearly 5 hours to finish as a threesome, in part because I suspect some groups head of us split into smaller groups. I wish the marshall would've kept that in check to speed up overall play.
Big fan of the course layout as it's not just about hitting long and straight, some interesting strategy decisions on various holes.
still wet and muddy
when its wet have to find way to hit ball cleanly //greens were not slow so that was gud
but no roll on fairways at all and bring ur towel to clean muddy balls
I know its a muni but sheesh
I've played a lot of Bay Area munis and I have played this course more than a few times and I have to say that I think that it has gotten worse.
The pace of play is a joke because there are only 7 minutes between tee times (meaning almost 9 groups going out per hour!) and because they don't require people to pay up front, each group is a hodgepodge of twosomes, threesomes and foursomes.
There are studies that show that tee time spreads of <10min cause 5+ hour rounds before noon and this course goes out there and puts tee times only 7 minutes apart.
