Watch out for wind and bring your ID!
The first thing to remember about playing Moffett is that it is still on a controlled access property. You need to pass by very serious armed guards to get onto the property and if you don't have ID, preferably a driver's license, then you will be quickly told to turn around and leave. The other thing to know about Moffett is it is right on the Bay, so if wind is forecast, especially if it is in a colder time of the year, think twice about playing! We played in 16 mph winds in December and it was not a good idea! Other than that, this is one of the more reasonably priced courses in the area and is in really decent shape most of the time. And NO CART PATH ONLY!
Great Day at Moffet
Finished the round in 4 hours. This is a walking course.
Greens are easy top read.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
They have a members discount which is attractive.
I'll play it again.
Painfully Slow
Moffett is a fun course and a great value in general, but this past Sunday the pace of play was easily the WORST I've experienced in the area in recent memory. 2:45 to play the front nine. Stuck behind 4-5 groups that were just abysmally slow. Watched the Marshall drive by one time without him even noticing the golfers. Infuriating. Sitting on 12 tee waiting to tee off we noticed 16 tee/fairway/green all completely empty. Obviously slow groups ahead were single-handedly ruining the day for many. Too bad the Marshall didn't address it earlier.
no carts
when we made the reservation, there was no indication of no carts. Thus to are surprise a fee for each of us was access for us to play plus canceling the tee time was not possible because no one was available at golf now. What a father"s day surprise. NO MORE GOLF NOW. VERY UNHAPPY.
Hacks
Playing with non golfers who score 10’s on par 4 and 15 stokes plus on par 5’s really affect the rounds of actual golfers. Not really the course fault just bad luck. And then slow play doesn’t help the issue. You can be a super non golfing hack. But keep up the pace. No need searching bushes and out of bounds for your stupid cheap pinnacle balls. Learn golf etiquette. Or quit the game
Course views
Great place to get your money worth of golf. Friendly environment in the mist of a location which sits along the bay with fresh air the best greens this side of the Mississippi.
Old air force course
Tee boxes need work, fairways ok, bunkers ok. Greens small and roll true but can be tricky and deceptive. Like the old course with small greens. Except for par 5’s you know what to expect with drives. Going to have to play this again for proper speed and reads. Overall, play this course you’ll be pleased.
Very good round
Excellent pace, good conditions with one exception the sand traps are a small coating of dirt and then underneath hard as a rock. It would not take much to met them sand. Please fix this.
Terrible experience
In the pro shop, before play..there was a conversation about five women walking who were slow players.
A staff worker said he would split them into a three-some and a two-some..He said no one wanted to play a six hour round..so far..O K.
Well the ladies regrouped as a five-some and ruined if for everyone..At the 13th tee there were 13 people waiting to tee off.
No marshall...when needed..
We skipped four holes to finish before dark..
14 holes..five hours
I won't return !
Getting better and better...
I've played here about 5 times in the past two months after being away for 10 years. Apparently Google has taken responsibility for much of the Moffett Field infrastructure and is making a visible effort to improve the course. They've trimmed the trees and removed some other trash trees to open up the sight lines around the course. The poa greens are in good shape and run firm and fast. The fairways are a mixed bag due to the low lying flat terrain and Bay proximity. Some areas around the course have patches of bare/thin grass. Where bermuda/kikuyu has taken over, the ball sits up nicely. They're rebuilding the teeboxes one at a time and I expect the overall conditions to continue to improve. As to the course, layout there are some sharp doglegs and a quirky mix of holes that go out toward the airfield and back to the clubhouse on each of the nines. With the prevailing bay breezes, there are some challenging 200 yd. par 3's and longish par 5's to keep your attention. The daily fee is $37 for walkers and the staff is extremely courteous and helpful. The range is scruffy but the chipping and putting areas are well-maintained.
Good Course, Good Layout.
Moffet Field Golf, has been my go to course. Overall is a good 18 hole course, with variety and character. Its pretty awesome to be able to play on the airfield base. Good tee boxes, good fairways, good greens, I play here 2-3 times a month, defiantly the best bang for your buck. I will refer my fellow golfers here. Come play the links at Moffet Field.
