The golf course at Flatirons Country Club has a long and unique history, undergoing several name changes, renovations, and even a location change since its conception in 1938. It is a popular choice since it accommodates all skill levels but also provides adequate challenges. The course has fast greens and narrow, tree-lined fairways. Water hazards and bunkers come into play on several of the holes. In addition to the excellent game it provides, the course also has a reputation for being in excellent condition. Flatirons Country Club has practice facilities including a practice green and chipping area as well as an on-site instructor and pro shop.

A Classic

Set not too far from the base of the mountains for which it is named, Flatirons golf course is THE option for golf in Boulder. The name is a bit ironic, since this course is so flat. That shouldn’t deter any golfers who are looking for a fun day and a good challenge!

Flatirons got course is really a classic par 70 layout, a style that is not too common in courses in the area. There are plenty of trees lining the lush fairways, a collection of several lakes and streams, and small greens by today’s standards. You need to be pretty accurate with all of your clubs or make sure your chipping game is dialed in to avoid a big score.

I really enjoy playing Flatirons since there are no houses lining most of the fairways, the conditions are usually very good, and it is a good test. The 9th is a tricky par 4 with OB left ad lakes right so you better keep it straight, and the par 3 11th has a very tricky putting surface.

Flatirons is a solid golf course with no frills and everything right out in front of the player. It is very easy to walk and has some nice mountain views when you get out of the trees. I find myself returning several times a year to enjoy this track. You should not leave this course off of your to play list!

Boulder's Classic Muni Gem

I had not played this course in many years since Boulder is a bit of a haul for me so I signed up for the Boulder City Amateur Championship 2-day gross score event and I was not disappointed, quite pleasantly surprised! Being a 10 handicap I was in pretty impressive company of single digit folks but it's fun to play with very good players and hope to have some of their talent rub off on me!

The course is easy to get to, near U of Colorado campus / centrally located, really not a far drive from central Denver.
A bit hidden turn-off from Arapahoe Avenue so be wary of the signage.

They had the course in top condition despite the summer drought leading into fall. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, tourney or not, and they gave out towel and divot switch-blade gifts for entrants. Free water and breakfast burritos and of course range balls for the tourney.

Practice facilities were above average, except the range is a tad small with the COVID-distancing, but everything is very close so no long hikes between parking lot - clubhouse - range - putting green - chipping green - #1 tee. Very walkable and flat course, being a walker myself I appreciated the Boulder-fitness oriented effect toward walking majority, nothing against cart riders of course!

Par 70 layout with just 1 par 5 on each nine, most par 5s take driver / 400 or so yards from blue tees. Water in play on maybe 6 or 7 holes but pretty avoidable with decent course management. Most holes are what you see is what you get in front of you, not many blind shots. Although the fairways are tree-lined with huge old trees, I felt the fairways were wide enough to navigate and I am not a straight shooter. Just enough bunkers to make you avoid but not overwhelming.

Pace of play even for tournament was good except the second day was wind gusts over 40 mph and leaves blew all over, just a consequence of a blustery Oct day. So finding ball even in fairway or around green sometimes challenging the 3-minute rule. Seems there should be a local rule waiving lost balls in the leaves when your whole group saw a great shot just off the green or right in the fairway and you get penalized stroke and distance anyway.

I probably liked the greens the most of anything. They are smaller than your newer courses yet large enough to have some serious 2-putt challenges, not overly undulated, pretty straight forward so someone like me can just aim for fat part of green on approach shot and hope to hit half the greens in regulation and never have a 100-yard triple breaking putt.

I will definitely get back here to play again, hopefully before next year's annual tourney!

I enjoyed this classic Boulder muni from the early 20th century, compared with the mega-monster courses and golf course community developments of today, it's a throwback that hopefully will continue to thrive well past its 100 year anniversary!

Okay for the money.

First let me start with my tee time was 11:50 booked through GolfNow and I found out that when I got to the tee box 4 other players had the same tee time. Not sure who screwed that’s up.. I’m lucky there was a twosome in front of me and I just paired up with them.Otherwise the course was good, not very challenging at all. The holes just go back and forth and so one for the whole course. The only challenges would be the fairways are lined with huge trees and you need to hit very straight!!

Good straightforward course in good winter conditions

The golfnow hot deal was super tempting like a wiggly worm to a fish, and I bit. The day was supposed to be quite chilly, but it was warm enough that quite a few of us wandered to play. More walked than rode, nice!

The course had some small amounts of snow, maybe slightly covering one green, which really only made a few tee boxes challenging and putting in tees into the ground the crux for the day.

The course was in quite good shape. The range is mats only. The greens are pretty firm, so bump and run often was easier than trying to get one to stick. Still, they're fairly flat, so speed control is the name of the game here. The greens were rolling quite well, especially given the winter date. The geese have largely left the course alone. The fairways have a few sticks, but there are hardly any fall leaves. Thanks! The trees still require you to shape your shots, especially if you play aggressively.

The folks here are super friendly, perhaps the nicest part of the day!

Had to Go Back Again

Played my second round this week while on vacation in Boulder. Beat the rain and snow today and had one of my best rounds of the season. Thanks again to a great and well operated golf course. Can’t wait to come back in the spring. Headed back to winter in Canada in a couple of days. Don’t miss the opportunity to play this course if you are in Boulder.

Good day out, good course to walk, very friendly staff

We were looking for a nice course to be able to play and walk. Flatirons is a fairly short course 6967y that is very walkable. This feels like a course with a higher percentage of walkers. There are shorter tees, like the green tees at 4731y, so it's nice for those wanting less distance requirements or more birdie opportunities. We found a time mutually convenient at a reasonable rate. The staff person was super friendly and welcoming. He offered a bucket of rangeballs, since we weren't using a cart. That was really nice!

The round went fairly well, although the light underbelly of some of the leaves, even though fairly blown off by the groundskeepers, still made it hard to find some slightly off track shots like just left of #11's green, short & left of #15's green, and short & left of #18's green. Penalty strokes are unpleasant for balls you see land and bounce. Oh well, I guess you got to use brighter colored balls if accuracy is not a strength.

The greens were slightly bumpy, but given it's mid-Nov., you can't really complain. The fairways are fairly tight right now. The rough is short. The grounds crew seemed to take away some of the tee box markers partway through the course. Winter preparation?

The super friendly staff person even came out of the pro shop and thanked us for playing. That was above & beyond.

Very Enjoyable Fall Golf Day

While visiting family in Boulder, this Canadian golfer could not resist a beautiful fall day of golf on this well maintained and challenging course. The greens were quick and required precise alignment to sink your putts.
The staff are always friendly and helpful. I will continue making this regular stop when in the area.i would highly recommend playing this golf course .

Great Course

This was the first time I have played the course and was very impressed with the condition of the course but the greens they were just awesome perfect, I made everything inside of 15 feet they putt true. Fairways are tight you have to hit it straight or you in the trees on every hole. This course will challenge your mid iron play.

Love the Vibe!!

Friendliest staff of any course I played all summer (including The Broadmoar, Indian Peaks, Coal Creak, Fossil Trace, Eagle Trace...”

Course was in fantastic condition! Bunkers were fluffy and picturesque, greens were fast and tightly mown. no leaves on the greens and it is October! Wow! Fairways also well kept. Just a joy of a course to play! Good job grounds crew!!!

The only thing to know is the range balls are limited distance and you always warm up on matts...That and the club house bathrooms are something out of a county fair ,but other than that love the place.

Just has a good vibe! You know you are in the right place when you walk up and the restaurant is named the Sand Wedge!

The staff was super friendly and that is just as important to me as course conditions these days!

Thanks Flatirons, you may be my new favorite haunt!

Great Track - Great Value!

The course website doesn’t do it justice. Beautiful course with views of the beautiful Flatiron Mountains dusted with remnants of snow from last winter. Super nice Cobra rental clubs awaited us as well as a nice large range to get loose before the round. Scenic course layout with a stream running along certain holes and small lakes give the course nice Colorado aesthetics, not too challenging but in excellent condition. Conveniently located about 5min from downtown Boulder! Can’t wait to get back!

Play Here

My son and I played here while visiting my daughter from way out of town and I must say this is a first rare course with an even better staff. We will play here again and encourage anyone to give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. Oh and my score was only decent so I’m not sugarcoating it.

Great track

Pace of play was a little slow. Maybe start groups.15 minutes between tee times instead of 10?

I always like playing this course because it has holes with trees. It makes it a little more challenging over a course Ike Coyote Creek or Colorado National.
