Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Eight, from behind: A superb par-three. On the other side of the mounds are large bunkers to catch weak approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

nice course, slow play
Course was in very good condition. But pace of play was unacceptable. Ranger was out on course but refused to do anything about the slow play. Would play there again but not my top choice mainly because of the pace of play
Good course
Fun course, well kept, very nice greens, and variety of holes. A bit short but long enough, definately target golf.
Can't beat Blackledge
You will not find a public course in better condition than Blackledge. I play here quite often, and am amazed at the quality of the course, round after round. The staff In the pro shop, especially Kevin and John, are always friendly, helpful, and smiling. Tremendous experience every time
slow greens bring down the round
I read some of the other reviews and I agree with the course being in good condition. But the greens looked so nice and rolled so slow! One of the slowest greens I have played all year. And I can't give a course a great rating when the greens rolled like that......it made the round very frustraiting
Great Course! Superb People and Food!!!
I love to play Blackledge CC in Hebron!
Whether it is the original Anderson course or the Gilead Highlands course, I always have a superior golf experience.
The staff at the pro shop are extremely friendly, courteous and helpful and the course is always in great shape.
I've met people on the course that have since become steady golf buddies, so there is always a good feeling when stepping up to the first tee.
The clubhouse has been beautifully renovated and the kitchen serves fantastic food all day long. I've recently brought my wife out to the course for dinner on the weekends, the specials are always delicious and reasonably priced.
If you want to have an enjoyable day golfing on a great course where you can relax afterwards with your favorite beverage and fine food offerings, then Blackledge CC in Hebron CT is for you!
Horrible experience with ranger.
This past memorial day weekend I tee off at 6:15 a.m. Im pretty sure I was the secod group off, with a threesome in front of the foursome I was playing in. On the 8th hole the ranger came by and told us to pick up pace. We had over a two holes wide open behind us. Once again on the turn, he stated that we were holding up yhe mens club and that we were going to have to let them play through. That the mens club players were better than us and that they had to wait too tee off since they hit the ball farther.
We didn't have anybody behind us the entire round. Not only did the ranger keep hassling us but he kept insulting my foursome's golfing abilities by stating that the men's club players were better and quicker since they golf every weekend. Everybody in my foursome also golfs every week and all for of us shot in the 80's.We ended up finishing the round 4 hrs exact. I am NEVER going back there and would NOT reccomend to anyone.
Wonderful Day of Golf
Course was in great condition. Play moved along very nicely. Had a beautiful day. Will be playing there a few more times this year for sure.
Nice course
This course has a straight forward layout. Holes are wide open and trees are not so mature that if you are in the rough you can still get out. Enjoyable round and would play again!
Great day
Great conditions, great price, and great food. Friendly staff
Nice Course
First time going to this course but it won't be my last. This was a very early season round so the normal issues came up, swampy land, super slow greens, green fertilizer everywhere. I will be back during the main season and hopefully can write a better review on this course.
Enjoy playing here!
Like any other course , you remember subleties and where to hit ball. Nice day as well
The leaves are falling!
The course was in very good condition....lots of leaves due to change in seasons....very colorful. A bit breezy, but comfortable for mid-October. Makes you use all the clubs in your bag....had some "forced carries" and elevation change. Will play again!
Challenging at times
Course is in great condition and definitely plan on playing there again.
Great course!
I have been playing here for a few years and love it! Always well maintained and challenging. Would definitely recommend.
Blackledge Golf Course
The pace in the front 9 was good, but when we made the turn the group in front of us was vary slow, I ended up leaving after the 11th hole.
The coarse is in great shape
I accidentally made my reservation for the wrong day. Not realizing it I showed up for the day I had intended to play but found out of my error. The staff was sympathetic and was able to squeeze me in. It was very much appreciated as I traveled a distance to play. I enjoy both courses and recommend both of them.
Blackledge Anderson COurse
This course, as I always remembered is a typical classic design in the rolling hills of New England. The course was in good shape and the greens were running very true and smooth. Though we caught up to others on the course each group let us play through without even asking. Overall a very nice set up with very good conditions for a GREAT price. One problem I could forsee, as we were finishing up around 4:00 PM the course was getting swamped with what appeared to be leagues, play and finish before 4:00.
Progressive
Perfect conditions. Well maintained. Course is in perfect shape
Blackledge delivers
Blacklidge country club is extremely well-run and the staff is fantastic to work with. The course is in good condition, and pace of play is good. I recommend this to any golfer needing a quick round in good conditions.
Good layout but poor greens
First off I was paired with 3 gentlemen (on Gilead) who had no clue about pace of play or golf behavior. Add to that the were 25+ handicappers and it made for a stressful round. I just wanted it to end. It probably colors my review but its all part of the experience. There are some good holes and you can shape the ball both ways. Fairways were decent. Tees and greens really needed to be cut. Greens were slow and it was really difficult to get a ball to stay on line. I will give it another chance but I will try and go out alone. I hear the other course is nicer so I will try that one first.
